  1. Congress should pass legislation on this immediately. I think purchases in the US should be limited to two grenades a month and one bazooka per month. Might be a good idea to ban the sales of grenades and bazookas within 20 miles of the border. This should prevent the illegall flow to Mexico and this will solve all their problems. Naval forces captured on Thursday Mauricio Guizar, known as "El Amarillo," in a hotel in small town in the central state of Puebla where he was holed up with 20 grenades, an anti-tank bazooka and a submachine gun, the navy said in a statement.
  2. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BQZSZ4/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 Bought this red dot for my sig522. 22 caliber. Worked great. Stuck it on my Stag Arms model 8. Was not expecting much. But it is holding rock steady after about 400 rounds. Nice small dot. Not getting another one for the Sig522. Love those iron sights that it came with.
  3. I don't like the lead these are a lot less messy Federal .22LR 36gr Copper Plated HP 525rd Value Pack
  4. got the brass stuff from the old order steel stuff is coming today happy, happy
  5. Picked up a Stag Arms Model 8. It’s a piston type. That is my type of gun. I'm the type that devotes minimum amount of time to cleaning my guns. Have about 260 rounds through it and nothing to clean. I can eat off that thing. That is with Silver Bear ammo. Real freaky. I want to clean that one but it just does not get dirty. No grit. Not even where it has been oiled.
  6. Reaching a happy middle ground. With this cleaning stuff. Looks like the Federal 22 is the way to go as far as clean ammo for my Sig 522. Fouls much less around the chamber. Look for crud in that area and clean if needed. Otherwise throw a little oil after 500 rounds and you can go 1,000 rounds without having too much grit buildup. Have around 6,000 rounds through it and it looks like new. No wear marks anywhere. Mobile 1 oil seems to be the way to go. Grease does not work too well fouls pretty badly and attracts the grit. Marlin bolt action almost never have to clean. Quick wipe and a good cleaning every 400 rounds? That is a guess. Again not much to clean. Ruger MKIII. Good cleaning 750-1000 rounds otherwise similar scenario to the Sig 522. So I clean the parts that move and rub. Otherwise I'm not too concerned. If I leave the residue on for a week or two I don't see any corrosive effect. Ruger probably has 3000 rounds through it and looks and shoots like new. That sucker I cleaned more than I needed just to get it to come apart easier. Picked up a Stag Arms Model 8. It’s a piston type. That is my type of gun. Have about 260 rounds through it and nothing to clean. I can eat off that thing. That is with Silver Bear ammo. Real freaky. I want to clean that one but it just does not get dirty. No grit. Not even where there is oil. One other thing. It's a big difference in terms of time when you take one gun to the range as opposed to taking 3-4 guns. Even if you spend 10 minutes per gun it's 40 minutes.
  7. You guys are really great. The only problem is that this saving money stuff if costing me too much money. :-)) Placed an order with these guys 7 days ago and still no link to track my order. I e-mailed them today to see what is up but I did order 20 boxes of this .223 ammo today.
  8. got it thanks can never have enough it sits there does not ask to eat and is available when you need it? boy that sounds a lot like my wife's ideal man :-)
  9. Instead of cleaning my guns this weekend. I took my chainsaw and my son and we cut out a shooting range on our property near Tusten NY. Shot the 223 the 22 and the 12 guage. Blew up jugs full of water with buckshot and slugs. That quality time with my son is worth all my guns. Instead of cleaning my motorcycles I put on 55,000 miles in 3 1/2 years on two of my motorycycles. My riding buddy who cleans his all the time put on 75,000 miles but he did not have a job. I agree. It's like motorcycles. More harm is done by cleaning and not riding than riding them into the ground. Most motorcycles and probably guns die of neglect and not because of use or poor maintenance. Have to post pics of my dirtbikes that we keep in Owls Head NY. DIrty as heck but my 16 year old has put on about 3,500 miles on his dirbikes since he started riding when he was six.
  10. link to their website would be appreciated
  11. Thanks for the replies guys. Much appreciated. I do understand that you have to check the gun to make sure it's safe. I do look at them after each time we shoot them. At this point I have a good feel for when they have to be cleaned. I do oil them pretty much after each use. Life is a bunch of trade offs. Twenty or thirty minutes might not seem like much to clean a gun but I just don't have the time. I'm married with children :-) Thanks again.
  12. So what is the scoop when it comes to cleaning. I shoot a lot but only have shot a lot over the last year. My theory on stuff is to use stuff and run it into the ground. I don't get sentimental about cars, motorcycles or guns. My time is limited and I don't want to spend a lot of time cleaning. I had a bolt action Marlin 22 that I put under my bed for 10 years and the same with a singel shot 20 guage. They were not cleaned of oiled when I put them there and looked fine when I started shooting them a lot after 10 years. No rust at all and the bore was clean. Moisture seems to be the problem. So I have a little heater in my gun safe. The powders are all non corrosive so I don't see any harm in putting something away for a few week after shooting without cleaning it. I put about 5,000 round through my SIG522 without cleaning it after each use. I just throw in some oil if possible after a usual shoot which is about 500 rounds. Same goes for my Ruger. They both run the ammo and shoot just fine. Have about 600 rounds through my Beretta 9mm with the same type of handling. In reality if my life dended on the guns I would probably err on the side of caution but for target shooting it's a different story. So forget about being harder to clean if I let it sit. Bottom line, if the metal does not pit or corrode if I don't clean it I won't waste my time with cleaning it. I'll just clean and oil so the ammor runs throught it without a problem. The question is, will it pit and corrode if the crud is left on over an extended period of time? Thanks
  13. http://www.sgammo.com/product/silver-bear/500rd-223-silver-bear-62gr-soft-point-556-223 Bought from SGAmmo but not available at the moment. Looks like all the .223 stuff is getting a little scarce. Ammo looks good packed well not dents. Put 60 round through my Stag Arms Model 8 and no issues. I put 60 rounds throug it two weeks ago of another brand. So after a total of 120 rounds gun looks pretty clean. If the Silver Bear stuff was dirty it would have shown up already. Shot with a red dot and it's more than accurate for me. Looking to get more. While we are on the subject of dirty ammo. The Remington .22LR golden ammo is crazy dirty. Can't us if in my Sig 522. Fouls it very quickly. Get lots of split cases in the SIG and my Marlin bolt action. Ruger MK III shoots it pretty well but it does get dirty. You see the residue all over you hands after a few hundred rounds.
  14. tell me about it I have still 3,000+ rounds to go :-(( before I'm done with this garbage so much for buying stuff on sale Lots of split cases in my Ruger MKIII and bolt action Marlin my Sig 522 gets fouled with this stuff inside of 100 rounds so the the bolt does not go forward enough to fire the next round With anything else I can go 500+ rounds before I have to re-oil the Sig I clean it every 1,000 rounds or so but can probably go much longer
  15. Nice gun. I have mine for about 8 months. Shot over 5,000 round throught it I would guess. Clean it before you use it. I don't clean it that often. When it starts to misfire I'll oil it some more and put another 500 rounds through it. I give it a cleaning every 1,200 rounds or so. Mobil 1 oil works great. You will love the gun. I had a few people at range approach me about it. I remember one guy telling his wife "That is the gun I should have got". Stay away from the Remington Golden stuff. Those are nasty bullets. Fouls the gun. I get tons of split shells with that stuff in all of my 22 guns. I still have 2,625 round to go before I use it up. Lesson learned, don't buy tons of stuff when it's on sale unless you know it works in you guns. My Ruger Mark III eats the stuff up and is even able to eject even the split shells. I got mine for I think it was $489 but had to wait about 5 weeks. Ramsey Outdoor ordered two. I got mine for the $489 but the second went on the shelf for I think $529. Was gone pretty quickly. Good luck with it. Oh yes it's very accurate. Get a cheap red dot for it but it's just as accurate with the iron sights if you have good eyes. Get an extra magazine for it and bring some kids to the range to load the magazines for you. :-)
  16. What about the secret handshake? :-))
  17. Stopped shooting and riding motorcycles for 20 years. Got back into riding 9 years ago and shooting just this year. Boy I missed a lot. Great thing that I'm able to enjoy all this with my 16 year old son.
  18. I paid $489 for mine in July of 2011. Took 6 weeks. They guy ordered two and put the other one up for sale for $529. So I got a good buy. They can order from Sig as a special order. They make a few from time to time.
  19. Thanks a lot guys Like I always say The Internet know all :-)
  20. 1. Application type - (FID & 2 pistol permit) 2. Police Department where you applied. - Allendale, NJ 3. Name of the person you dealt with at the PD. - Sgt. Carey 4. Time taken to issue FID and/or permit. 6 weeks - would have been 4 if neighbor would look at his mail and if I could have gotten finger prints faster. 5. Documents required by the PD (aside from the standard application and the mental health release form). - None Great guys to deal with.
  21. It was 100% legal but at this point there is no documentation. Since this was about 25 years ago. I guess he's just being paranoid. That is the problem with being honest and law abiding. It you are a criminal you just show them the money and get it the same day. Thanks for the reply.
  22. In the late 70's someone I know lived in NYC. He bought a .22 rifle and registered it in NYC. He moved to NJ over 20 years ago. Rifle was given to someone else in NY State for safe keeping. Since the person did not need the rifle and did not want to be bothered with getting a FID card. Don't even know if that was necessary years ago. A few years ago the original owner bought a seasonal home in NY State. The rifle was brought over to the NY State house by the person that held it for 20 years. Now the original owner wants to bring the rifle to NJ. He has a NJ FID card. Since the rifle was his 20 years ago and never really transferred to anyone else can he just bring it back into his possession or does he have to buy it back, in effect from himself since the person that had it for 20 years is no longer alive? While we are on the subject. Do you have to have papers all the rifles in your possession?
