  1. What I want on the back of my truck are the Grateful Dead dancy teddy bears holding various deadly "assault weapons." Liberal Mind F--k.
  2. Since there is no clear advantage to either .308 or .30-06, there is only one thing to do. You must get one of each.
  3. Really?!?! Both these threads stink like BS from some 20-something-year-old who spends too much time watching NCIS Los Angeles. A pair of Federal LEO knocking at your door at dark-o-clock and introducing themselves as “special” agents Douche-bag and Romeo only happens on TV. If this account is indeed true, then the OP’s “friend” is BS-ing him. Federal agents only show up at OP’s “friend’s” door if OP’s “friend” was sounding reasonably credible talking shit about committing violent acts. Moreover, they would have interviewed a half dozen people from the original complainant, to the school, to the local LEO, to the social workers, to the hospital doctor long BEFORE showing up at the residence of the OP’s “friend.” So either (A) OP’s “friend” is a shit-talking douche-bag who deserves everything he gets, or (B) OP is just trying to stir the bucket. In either case, as my 15-year-old son would say, “♪♫ Troll lol lol lol lol, lol lol lol lol. ♫♪ Let it die.”
  4. Down boy. Down. Don't put words in my mouth and then rant about them.
  5. Which is more probable: A. He actually sh!t his pants for 4 days to get out of service (and the Army did not see through it), or B. He was being outrageous about his 4F assessment Being outrageous was his schtick; very similar to Howard Stern in the 1990's.
  6. ^^^^ THAT is an abomination. Blasphemy!
  7. My gutt tells me that there is much more to this story than your friend is sharing with you or you are sharing with us. The FBI does not send agents, let alone "special" agents, to follow up on an off-hand comment about feeling "depressed."
  8. For everyone who was rockin' in middle-school during the late 1970's... Think about it. THIS man now owns LOTS of firearms:
  9. Not sure if I would shoot it at over $2/bang + shipping. But, it made me laugh enough that I might have to get a box to set on the shelf in my workshop as a conversation piece.
  10. Thanks for the link. I swear I googled for an hour and could not find the right adapter. They have some sexy breaks on that site. Too bad most won't float in NJ. Right now, you got the leading recommendation unless someone can convince me that I can replace the front sight on my own. I just wish there was some way to not have a big 24mm anurism between the sight and the brake.
  11. I get it, for aesthetics. I put the slant brake up against the 24mm threads and it looks like crap. But, I am not a gun smith. Is swapping out a front sight something a novice can do with normal workshop tools? I have never used a threading tool and do not own a drill press. Do you have a link to a video showing the procedure? When you remove your brake, you are going to be very surprised by how much combustion residue gets around the crown of the barrel and into the threads. If you have been shooting corrosive, you might be in for a bit of a surprise. It is such a big hunk of metal that it will take decades to corrode through. It might be best to leave well-enough alone. I would be concerned about breaking the threads when you crank the old brake off.
  12. I submitted my FL CCW paperwork in middle of November 2009 and had my permit well before Christmas. It was a while ago and I wasn't timing it. But it was certainly less than 4 weeks.
  13. Your FL CCW permit will come faster than your NJ FPID did, guaranteed.
  14. You learn something every day. Today, I learned that Saiga barrels do not have standard 14mm left-hand threads. I destroyed the AK74-style brake that came with my Saiga during the removal process. The standard slant brake that came UPS today will not fit. So I am in a bit of a pickle. I cannot find any slant brakes with 24mm RH threading and the only adapters I can find are for converting 14-to-24mm, not 24-to-14mm. What are my options? Do I have to get another Arsenal brake or are there slant brakes available for Saigas? Thanks.
  15. If you have school aged kids, neices/nephews, etc., do not do this. The FPID does not exempt you from the school property prohibition. If you forget it is in your trunk and get noticed on school property, its a crime in the second degree. ETA: And those without kids in their lives still need to be careful. The law does not go into specifics about what a school is. Maybe your church runs a kindergarten or preschool. Maybe a preschool is operating in the same strip mall as your grocery store. Several college campuses straddle major roads. etc.
  16. I got the Sightron III. I also ordered a mount, rings, and set of good flip-up caps. It all came to a little more than $900. Dummy me left the receipt sitting on my desk and the wife found it. The scope is now my Christmas present. I will need to wait 2 1/2 months before I can try it out.
  17. Only crime was the smoke bomb. Everything else should have been good to go in checked baggage.

    M&P 15

Love the M&P 15. IMHO, it is an awesome entry level rifle for the AR platform. There is no need to jump into a $1,500 rifle until after you fall in love. Russian ammo is good enough for a M&P15. I do not think you will be able to perceive the difference in accuracy inside of 50 yards. I have shot (or, my kids have shot) 10's of thousands of rounds of Tul, Wolf, and Bear and we never had a single round fail to go bang or FTE. The dirty factor is the only thing you really need to consider. My kids can blow through 300+ rounds in an afternoon of shooting. So, for me the cost difference is well worth it. ETA: If you are worried about S&W saying the steel casing may damaging the extractor, I would take that with a grain of salt. The money you will save in ammo price on your first trip to the range will buy you a half dozen new extractors.
  19. This was just an example. I need to see it on an AK before I buy. I am also a little reluctant to deal with all the "is THAT legal?!?!" banter at the range. I am still looking. Nonetheless, I appreciate the answers. I is good to know that it is manufacturer's marketing that counts. Thanks
  20. Advertize as a break. So, as long as I file away the advertisement and packaging just in case, I should be OK. Right? Thanks
  21. What makes a muzzle device an evil "flash suppressor"? Can I simply trust the manufacturer's description or are there specific criteria? i.e., I am looking to get rid of the AK74-style break that comes on the Saiga SG21 series. I was thinking about something with a little more cool factor like this. But am worried that it might be a little to cool for NJ.
  22. Post your favorites. Here is one of mine.
