  1. The less we tell people the less people they'll think do it. Often when people have a face they can put to an issue it make it harder for them to vote against them.
  2. I don't hide it, and if people ask what I do when I take off work or on weekends, I tell them. I have no reason to fear the truth. Treating it like a normal thing has a funny effect of making those less comfortable feel like the weird ones. Especially in NJ. As a side note, I think Hurricane Sandy showed a lot of people what happens when you are on your own (without power, gas, emergency services, etc.). Nothing we say as gun owners about personal safety/self reliance can be as powerful as what Sandy demonstrated.
  3. I'm gonna have to peruse the AR pic thread and see some of your builds now.
  4. I've actually looked at TiNi BCGs but they don't seem to be the best option. QPQ seems to be more effective from my research.
  5. Makes sense. I think it's really interesting stuff. Still quite a bit over my head at this point. Just makes me want to hit the books and get into reloading!
  6. Gotcha! Thanks Vlad! I think my confusion was the result of reading manufacturer descriptions which lead me to believe they were drop in components and not part of a larger system.
  7. So apparently there's a new trend of low mass BCGs in the AR world and I totally don't get it. They are advertised to reduce felt recoil by reducing reciprocating mass, but my understanding is that F=ma, so since we're still dealing with the same force (gas pressure impinging on the carrier), when you reduce mass all you do is increase acceleration of the BCG for a total effect of simply increasing the cyclic rate. Right? To me, having a "normal mass" or increased mass BCG seems like a better idea since it slows the cyclic rate and increased inertia on the bolt's "rebound" and create a better environment for stripping off rounds. Plus if you want to reduce the force of recoil, you're better of reducing the gas pressure (i.e. force) to the lowest, reliable setting. But I'm not an expert and just pulling this out my ass. Am I missing something or misunderstanding? The context for my question is that I'm researching my dream build and want to find the best BCG possible, and it seems the market is flooded with gimmicks.
  8. I think Vlad is on to something here! Hahahaha
  9. So I saw on Facebook that Strike Industries is launching a new product which they describe as: "The Tactical Sling Catch has been designed with the input of Special Force Group operators to eliminate a problem that nearly ALL weapon slings share. This is the chaffing of the neck from the webbing material use in their construction. While some maybe less abrasive than others, such as tubular webbing and softer material than thicker canvas materials, all will cause irritation and chaffing over a short period of time. This known issue is magnified when wearing any sort of body armor or outer tactical vest (OTV). The Tactical Sling Catch addresses the issue by keeping the webbing material away from the operators neck. It is attached and secured to the shoulder pad/strap of the vest by means of a heavy duty Velcro strap. The low profile design allows quick don and doff of the weapon sling while being virtually snag free when moving through heavy brush." Here's some pictures to give you a better idea of what they meant: Is this a useful product for those of you who use slings religiously?
  10. So I'm a fan of nitrided barrels, but had an epiphany that I don't really know a lot about different offerings. So what do you use? Has it worked out well for you? Why do you prefer it?
  11. ITT: Lots of legal discussion from non-lawyers about a million unsubstantiated hypotheticals. If the law scares you don't put anything on the end of your barrel. Otherwise use your personal best judgement.
  12. The law is only as good as the smartest cop. Use your best judgement.
  13. Nice to see you back! I was just thinking about a meet-up before it gets too cold. Nothing in the works yet, though.
  14. I only know because I've eyeballed that many times, hah!
  15. Before anyone gets too excited about that Aimpoint PRO deal, they throw on extra depending on the mount so it's closer to $550.
  16. Here's the press release: Not really sure how much better this is than a T-1, but I hope that this results in cheaper T-1s!
  17. So I just spent the last few days working on a virtual build of a two-stamp .300blk AR15 which is very illegal in the PRNJ. Anybody else have a fantasy build for free America? Since I won't be able to own this for a while I might as well share my work: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-HOvxq4BEna6i8I8lTCcM3eBJQwE_bdPKE_PtniV5cQ/edit?usp=sharing
  18. That's great, but it's not a standard people will be able to apply to every comp on the market for obvious reasons. Since we can't get feedback from the FIU on every comp, we have to use our best judgment. Being a gun owner in this state is in and of itself a risk and I'm not going to work myself up over a comp. Other's can do their research and decide for themselves what level of caution they're comfortable with. You're not wrong at all and I know there are some devices I myself wouldn't use.
  19. Kinda comes with the territory of taking advice from the internet. The fact is that it's conjecture either way. I don't see the BCM comp as an issue at all, and if people are too scared to risk it I say they avoid comps all together. I don't have to preface everything with IANAL. We're all adults (or oversized children) here. People can make up their minds either way.
  20. But how much weight that letter actually carries nobody knows. Nor is it in the majority of comps in having a letter. I still don't get the risk involved with the BCM.
