  1. Last round of permits took 7 weeks. Processed in under 4 weeks and took another 3 for the chief to sign them. Was pretty upset seeing as now I gota line up my purchases exactly or else I have to write a letter asking for an extension.
  2. When I spoke with a class instructor on 168 vs 175 he said the performance was basically the same out to 700yds. After 700yds the 175 outperforms the 168 every time. I dont have access to anything that far so I shoot the 168gr.
  3. Thanks, I sent him some links from that forum. We did not try any other ammo that day as we didn't have any with us. He was going to head back to the range with his defense ammo and see if that changed anything. No further range report yet.
  4. I went to the range today with a friend so he could break in his new off duty gun, the Glock 42. We put about 250 rds through it and had numerous failures, of all sorts. The ammo we were using was good quality, Speer tmj. In the first 5 mags we had a 50% failure rate in a combination of double feeds and stove pipes. As we put more rounds downrange it decreased to about one failure per mag, and by the end of the day it was down to about one failure every third mag (mags hold 6 rds). I didn't count how many of each malfunction but in order to magnitude it was double feeds, stove pipes, failure to go into battery. Gun was clean, had 0 rds thru it going into today. My Glock is my least favorite pistol but after several hundred rounds I have had exactly 0 failures with it so this really surprised me. As you can imagine it also bothered my friend quite a bit who was planning on using it to carry. He is going to take it to the dept armorer and also run defense ammo thru it to see if that changes anything. Anyone had any issues with theirs?
  5. Look in the EE for a used vortex gen 2 1-6 the glass is amazing for the price. Ive bought 3 of em I like them so much. Primary Arms has 15% off optics you can also grab a pst 1-4 for $425 shipped which is a good deal.
  6. Only surefire I have had hands on with is a G2X and an x300U. The g2 is not built any better than the WMLX in my opinion but its also a $95 msrp handheld light. Its hard to compare the x300 to the WMLX bc they are two different systems. If I can find someone with a Surefire rifle light I will take some pics/comparison test them.
  7. So yea I'm bumping a really old thread. I bought a couple of these on a BF special bc they were $119. I wanted something that was really meant for a rifle (was using streamlight tlr1hl's) and at $119 this seemed to be a good buy. They are all plastic, but the plastic seems to be very rugged. They are just as bright and have the same beam as the TLR-1HLs, meaning they are plenty bright. I really like how the button on the back naturally lines up with your hand when its on a rail. It has a lever that flips easily to switch it from momentary (hold it) on to constant on/strobe. I will report back once I throw a bunch of rounds downrange as to how it hold up
  8. The TN lowers are reinforced poly, and they have great reviews so far. They will also print custom logos on your lower for an additional fee (that comes to less than a normal lower). By all accounts over the past year this is a stand up company that wants to build a lasting business. If I was going to buy a poly lower I would try them out for sure.

Thanks bennj, I just never got around to buying a revolver bc permits were always used up on other stuff. This guy popped up literally 2 days after I applied for some permits and I didn't have anything else set aside yet. I am currently on the hunt for a 586, thats what the next permit will be burned on It felt just as good in hand as the Python and I felt that it shot very similar. Not as pretty, but since they are 1/4 the price I don't have to worry about beating on it a little.

That's a beautiful piece worn holster. Looks like its in great shape especially considering its age.

That GP looks really nice with those grips. I will have to find another one to fondle.

Thanks for all of the replies guys. To those saying its a gun and I should just shoot it you should know that I have no issue shooting expensive toys and using them as they are meant to be used. I have several things worth way more than this that I wouldn't hesitate to crawl through some mud with and run hard - bc thats what they were bought for and they can be replaced as Pizza Bob said. I won't be able to easily replace this (especially at this price) so thats factoring into my decision. I went to the range with NJ Pilot today and when we looked it over well it was evident that even though its in really good shape it had obviously been shot before. Due to this I decided to put a few rounds downrange to satisfy my curiosity and I was very happy with it even though I only put 30rds thru it. Now that my itch has been scratched it's going back into the safe where it will sit for most of it's life. I will probably take it out once in a blue moon but I am going to buy another revolver to shoot regularly. NJ Pilot was nice enough to bring a 586 along (and his Python too which is a beauty ) and I really liked the 586. I think I will start looking for one of those as more of a beater. I will also look again at the Ruger's but I recall not liking them as much last time I handled a GP100.

Interested in this...just missed a DW revolver by a few minutes not too long ago for a great price. I will have to keep a sharp eye out for them.

Thanks Pizza Bob. I have handled the 686 and didn't get the same feel for it as I do with this gun but it might have been the rubber grips on the 686. I don't mind saying what I paid for it bc this will be with me for the next several decades (or passed on to someone if I'm not here).. A local shop posted it online for $1400+tax/nics and due to my impulsive nature I called them immediately and paid for it without seeing the pistol. My permits came in recently and I am happy with my purchase

Lol, thanks for offering your services! If you don't mind me putting a couple rounds thru it I would gladly shoot it. I will bring ammo and also bring mine so you can check it out. You can tell me if you think its ok to put a few rds downrange. My biggest thing is the cylinders/bore look pristine, don't want to change that.

Thanks Tony! What can I buy that will give me the same experience as this? I really like the heft of it and how tight the lockup of the cylinder is. The whole thing just feels very tight, but the trigger pull is extremely smooth. I'm hooked on it

I recently picked this bad boy up and I am really loving it. It is a 1970's Colt Python 4". Its in like new condition and came with all the original paperwork and box. My dilemma is that since its in such good condition I dont wana start shooting it in fear of decreasing its value. I have a couple more permits, what can I buy that is the same fit/finish/feel that I can shoot the crap out of and not worry about the collector value? I want to shoot this thing so bad but it sat in a safe for 40 yrs and I am historically not easy on my guns so I dont want to ruin a good thing.
  19. Save your money and invest in military 1911s, colt snake guns, garands, etc. They arent produced any more and will just go up in value.
  20. I have touched literally 1k+ USGI pistol belts since we owned the store and I have never seen that buckle on a belt. I have no historical or value info for you other than it is indeed not a normal belt. Best of luck finding info on it
  21. I got a $10 credit from them today. They are adamant it wasnt shipped out broken, I call bc.
  22. Im positive I have seen these in at least one NJ gun shop. IANAL but I'm pretty sure they are ok. Same concept as a KelTec Sub2k. Legal bc it won't shoot when its folded.
  23. You know thats a really good point. My ups box was not damaged either. I figured it was due to nothing being in between the cardboard and the ammo. If they did buy broken boxes and sold em without advertising as such thats messed up.
