    Competition Shotguns

So the factory JM Pro has 4 shell magazine plus a +4 extension and I can replace the extension with a +2. Can I do this legally myself or do I need an FFL to do this?

    Competition Shotguns

I thought that this shotgun had an 8+1 capacity so it was not legal in NJ?
  3. Given the NJ magazine limit of 6+1 in semi-automatic shotguns do many people use pumps in competitions so they can have a higher magazine limit?
  4. I am interested in getting a few steel targets for practicing with a pistol at say 10 to 25 yards. I have found two types of round steel targets: With holes in them so a bolt can be used to attach them to a cap on a post (or using a chain to make them into a gong) and with no holes but a piece of steel welded to the back which slips into a holder on a post. Is there any advantage of one type over the other? I would think the flat target without the bolt/chain would be safest as the ones with an exposed bolt/chain could be hit and cause the bullet to ricochet back (besides destroying the bolt/chain). I would be interested in hearing any thoughts on this. Thanks.
  5. Good question. NJ doesn't seem to have an exemptions to leave NJ with a firearm so you would be under the federal FOPA. So is picking up a passenger on the way to PA covered under what? We need test cases .. any volunteers?
  6. So does the 15 minutes apply to all of the exceptions or just the "reasonably necessary deviations"? After Sandy it was a bit more than 15 minutes to get fuel!
  7. It looks like the bill that was passed by the Senate today had been amended on May 5th: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2014/Bills/A3000/2777_S2.PDF As amended, the bill defines “deviations as are reasonably necessary” to mean collecting and discharging certain passengers, purchasing fuel, using a restroom, contending with an emergency situation, and other reasonably necessary deviations of no more than 15 minutes in duration. The committee amendments expand the definition of “deviations as are reasonably necessary” to include reasonably necessary deviations of no more than 15 minutes in duration. The last clause "and other reasonably necessary deviations of no more than 15 minutes in duration." seems to add judicial discretion back into the law. It is still not perfect because of the 15 minute duration but definitely better than it was without it. The full final amended bill is located at: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2014/Bills/A3000/2777_R1.PDF
  8. Thanks all for the input. I should have mentioned that I was talking about pistols not rifles.
  9. This might sound strange (but everything about NJ gun laws is strange) so here goes: Can I travel from my home in NJ with a firearm to the first range, then drive to the second range, and finally drive home. Both ranges are in NJ. I would hate to think that I have to first drive home and then back to the second range as the trip between the ranges is much quicker than my trips home. It seems from what I have read that I can only drive between my home and range and back and that there doesn't appear to be an exemption for driving between two ranges?
  10. Local police departments do fingerprints for people that are arrested. As others have said, check with your local police department as many will do prints for residents (but not for NJ prints which go through Morpho). Some charge a small fee while others are free.
  11. So does anyone know exactly what is causing the delays now. The NICS check is being done instantly so why are new P2P taking so long? I am still waiting for 2 1/2 months for mine. I don't think it is my local PD as they are great. A few months ago they extended my permits in less than a week. Is it the NJSP or ?
  12. So I looked around and found the Streamlight TLR-2 HL which outputs 630 lumens and has a red laser. Any comments about this one?
  13. Thanks for all of the replies. I am going to get a SureFire X300 Ultra.
  14. Weapon light/laser combinations have much lower light output than just a weapon light. For example: 170 lumens for the Surefire LED Handgun Weapon Light with Laser 500 lumens for the SureFire X300 Ultra Weapon Light For a nightstand pistol, do you all have weapon lights, lasers, or combination ones and why?
  15. This is late for the 4th but fyi you can apply to NH for a non-resident permit. You just need a permit from another state (including non-resident permits).
  16. Great idea....but...I checked and they seem to just be plastic plugs that hold the laser in the cartridge. They don't seem to be adjustable.
  17. I haven't seen any adjustment. I have tried aligning the laser cartridge by rotating it before putting it in the chamber but it didn't seem to do anything differently. The cartridge is held in the barrel by the two O-rings. I don't know if the O-rings compress and can cause misalignment of the laser.
  18. I just purchased a Laserlyte Reaction Tyme training system with a LT-45 laser cartridge. I have found that the laser seems to point about 6" too high (at a distance of 7 yards) compared to my iron sights on my Glock handgun. Has anyone else used this and how accurate is it? It seems to work well to help me with my trigger control but I am afraid of building muscle memory of aiming 6" too low all of the time.

    First Rifle 5.56

I would really like to build one but my time is limited (that thing called work always seems to get in the way) and I don't know anything about AR's. I build my computers from parts for the same reasons everyone has said about AR's: you can get exactly what you want and you then know how to maintain/fix them. So maybe for my next one.
  20. I am looking at getting my first rifle. I will be using it for HD and for fun at the range (100-200 rounds per month). At some point I might get a light/laser for it as well as a red dot or holographic sight. I would like it to be NJ compliant out of the box and don't want to build one. I have narrowed it down to a Colt Match Target MT6400R or a S&W M&P15FT. They seem similar. The one difference I can see is the Colt has a chrome lined barrel while the S&W has a Melonite barrel finish. Although price is not a deciding factor the Colt lists for $1825 and the S&W for $1159. Why does the Colt list for so much more? I would welcome any comments about either one or even why my choices are just lousy. Thanks.
  21. Took it at Gun For Hire. Great guys and great course. I received my permit last week after 79 days.
  22. I received 3 new magazines from Glock in the mail. I took them to the range and have shot around 100 rounds through each of them using 3 different types of ammunition. They ran flawlessly so I am a happy camper again The 3 original magazines must have been a bad batch.
  23. The instant NICS check didn't make it back yet and my permit expired. So this morning I went to the local PD and submitted an application for 3 more permits. I am guessing that is going to take some time now also. You gotta love our NJ system!
  24. The permit had already been extended for 90 days and the FFL can't contact the SP so my last hope is that the confirmation comes in today or Monday. Otherwise I will have to apply for new permits. And yes they are saying it is 20 days now for the INSTANT check.
