  1. I had an F150 with the 4.2 V6. Had for about 6 years and it proved to be a good motor and very depenable truck. Did not burn a drop of oil between oil changes, even at 150k miles when i sold it. It was a nice truck and I still kick myself for getting rid of it. Although it was a 6 cylinder, it was a gas hog regardless and didn't really have any fuel economy advantage over the V8 models. If you do get a 4.2 model, avoid the 97-98 model years as they were known to have gasket problems. Also, The Ford 4.6 V8 is generally regarded as a pretty bulletproof motor. All the trucks at my old job were Ford's with the 4.6 V8. Many had over 200k miles and were still running strong. I don't have experience with the 5.4 V8, so can't really comment on those models.
  2. I would like to apply for the Florida non-resident Permit, but im a little confused about the applciation process. Firstly, I was wondering if the NJ Hunter Education card is considered sufficient for the training requirement? Second, Where exactly can you go to get fingerprinted? I read somewhere that the prints must be performed by law enforcement, and they will not accept prints done by a private fingerprinting company. Is this correct? If so, does anyone know any law enforcement agencies in north or central jersey that are willing to fingerprint you for this purpose? Thanks for the help!!!
  3. I know that NJ residents may only sell a handgun to other NJ residents with a handgun permit, but what about selling to FFL dealers? I have sold a few long guns to Cabela's in PA in the past, and they usually give me a fair offer. But would it be legal for me to sell handguns to an out-of-state dealer? Or would I be limited to trying to sell the pistol to NJ gun shops only??
  4. Ive been trying to find a Bersa Thunder .380 and/or a Thunder .22lr. I can find them available online but id like to avoid the hassle of transfer fees, etc. Plus id like to check one out in person rather than buying sight unseen online. Does anyone know any shops in North or Central NJ that carry the Bersa Thunder series? Thanks!!!!
  5. I was concerned about the salt air. But wasnt sure if this was an issue about a mile out from the beach.
  6. Not familiar with the Golden rod, i will look into it.
  7. I might soon be moving down to Monmouth County, about a mile from the beach. Im wondering if living this close to the ocean might affect firearm maintenance and storage. I currently give my guns a good inspection and oiling about every 6-12 months and keep them stored in a safe. I currently live in Essex county. I have never had any rust issues. Can I keep my current routine or should I inspect and oil them more frequently if I live by the ocean?
  8. Trying my hardest to think of an exit strategy for me and the wife. We are blue collar workers, so cant shop for job offers in other states like professionals can. Only way would be to quit our jobs, leave, and hope for the best. That would be a huge leap of faith. Also family ties would make it hard to leave. I work in essex county, thought about moving to Stroudsburg, PA but I wouldn't be able to handle the rt. 80 commute. It pains me to want to leave the state where i grew up and where my family has lived for generations. But I feel like things are only gonna get worse. The gun laws are just the tip of the iceberg. Taxes, overcrowding, cost of living, etc.. are all huge factors as well.
  9. Sorry I should have clarified a little better...id be keeping my current job in Essex County. I work field service in a company car so I really don't have to commute to a fixed location. Most of my company's territory is around the nyc metro area and its required that I reside somewhere in the territory. Unfortunately PA is not our territory and is too far away. However, Rockland or Orange county would be doable. Id prefer Orange county for lower taxes and more rural feel. Unless something changed recently, all that NY state residents need is a NICS check to buy a long gun in NY state (excluding nyc of course).
  10. Basically my job situation is allowing me the option to relocate to Orange county, NY in the next year or two. So im trying to decide if it would be better in the long run (as far as gun rights) to make the move, or to stay in NJ and just hope for the best. Im not much of a handgun guy anyway, so id be ok with just owning long guns. Not really interested in the NYS pistol permit. Id have to deal with the stupid "Safe Act", but again I wouldn't be owning any handguns or high cap rifles so i wouldn't be too worried about it. The way. I see it, at least I could own my long guns in peace without having to deal with any more FID B.S. Or the vehemently anti gun culture in this state. I know NY isn't much better, but i feel that there are still enough gun owners upstate. What do you guys think??
  11. Best of luck. I too am looking to get out in the next few years, to either PA or down south.
  12. I went through this same situation with my wife (girlfriend at the time). She was pretty much terrified of guns when we first starting dating. She was reluctant to even hold one at first. She is pretty tiny, about 5'1. What I did was buy one of those .22lr single shot Crickett youth rifles. I think it was like $100 at the time. This ended up being a perfect choice because it was so light (like 3 pounds) so she wouldnt get tired having to hold up and shoulder the gun (She often complains that "full size" rifles/shotguns are too heavy). The youth-sized length of pull fit her perfectly. And also the mild report and absense of any real recoil made her feel comfortable enough to give it a try. By the end of the first range day she was loading and shooting rounds by herself and having loads of fun doing it. Next time we went to the range, she was ready to try moving up to the .410 shotgun, which she did fine with. The moral of the story is, start small so she wont get intimidated. And then as her confidence increases she will be eager to move on to bigger stuff.
  13. Thanks for all the replies. I work field service so I do not have to commute to a fixed location. I leave my house in the morning and travel to customer sites throughout the day, then head home. So technically i could live anywhere in south jersey but my employer would probably be happier if it were near an area with a high concentration of customer sites. Technically our territory also includes a small chunk of southeast PA (philly burbs area), but that would be a hard sell for me to transfer there because our customers are currently very sparse on that side of the river. Our busiest territory in south jersey is the shore region and slightly inland, between Monmouth County down to Cape May. So that would be my most likely option.
  14. We would be renting. Our ultimate goal is to move to PA within the next 4 or 5 years so I dont think wed be looking to buy in NJ. Considering living in south jersey in the meantime because I could stay with the same job while escaping the stress of north jersey.
  15. Thanks for the suggestion. My company doesn't really have any presence in Salem county but Cumberland might be a possibility.
  16. I may have an opportunity down the road to get a transfer with my job to South Jersey. Honestly I want to leave the state altogether someday, but for now this may be the next best thing. Im currently living in Essex county and my wife and I definitely wouldn't mind escaping the north jersey metro area rat race up here for more relaxed surroundings. I work in the field service industry and my company has lots of accounts in South Jersey...so I would have alot of flexibility as far as where I can move. But id most likely have to choose from somewhere along the shore region (anywhere from Monmouth down to Cape May), or perhaps Burlington or Gloucester County areas. I have little experience with South Jersey outside of the shore areas. Is the southern part of the state as rabidly anti-gun and anti-hunting as most of north jersey? Or are people a little more accepting? Can anyone recommend towns in south jersey in which the local PD are easy to work with and cordial in regards to the FID and pistol permit process? Thanks for the help.
  17. C'mon guys...this was huge. Sweeping gun bills struck down in NEW JERSEY of all places. Alot of people (myself included) thought we were doomed. Maybe Christie had his own political interests in mind more than the rights of NJ gun owners, but who the hell cares. I was getting prepared to uproot my life and move to Pennsylvania ASAP because of these bills. i still want outta here, but at least this buys me some time until 2016. Unfortunatley, i fear the ghettocrat regime in this state will try this crap again once Christie leaves office and they have some Liberal turd for a governor again.
  18. Nothing surprises me in this state anymore. The ruling liberal regime does what it wants, rules and laws dont apply to them apparently.
  19. 13 days...quicker than i was expecting. I was bracing myself to have wait 3 weeks or more but luckily this wasnt the case. Maybe the delays are getting slighlty better.
