  1. I shoot a 170 pound crossbow in my backyard(.44 acre lot) from 30 yards every now and then. Real crossbow target with proper target holder using the 4 foot elevated ground my porch sits on as a backstop for the possibility of a rogue bolt with my home as the ultimate backstop. Both my neighbors have multiple children so I took great care in planning how to do my shooting safely. So I have a good amount of experience on this subject. This parent IMO is horrible. Outright dangerously bad. He obviously has little to no control over his kid or doesn't care at all about him. I get the kids position, I wanted a bow and arrow at his age too. The problem is he is an excitable kid who's brain isn't focused on safety but how soon he can play with his new toy. Notice I said toy- that is what he sees that bow as and it's no surprise at all by his father's comment saying it was a toy too. The problem isn't the kid or the fact that he's learning to shoot a bow and arrow but that he has no one to guide him correctly. The fact that from your complaints only changed the target to a new neighbors direction still without any real backstop proves this entirely. That tree is NOT a proper backstop since it seems to be at best 1 foot wider then the target. I don't know the kid, really I don't. He maybe a really good kid who as I said before just too eager to factor everything in and has a genuine interest in a great hobby. Or he can be the anti-christ. Whatever you do though I personally feel that going to a council meeting to make a law about shooting a bow is the wrong direction. Could he of hurt your family- absolutely. Again, the fault lies in the atrocious parenting he is receiving and not the hobby itself. As a gun owner in NJ you must feel some semblance about obtuse laws that punish the whole for the faults of the few. Imagine how difficult you'll make life for those who do shoot responsibly in your whole town. I get that you work a ton and have little to no time, but maybe you can spare some and have a little talk with the kid. Use your knowledge of firearms to educate him on why his methods are not only wrong but also dangerous. Show him the picture of the arrow at your kids swing and tell him to imagine the rest of his life forever changed cause a stray arrow took the life of a baby. Show him some proper ways he can do his shooting safely and encourage him to take lessons with professional instructors who can refine his skill and technique so the likelyhood of a stray arrow drops considerably. I get that it's not your kid and thus none of this is your responsibility. However based on his fathers comments I doubt he is a place he can go for proper guidance even if you persuaded the father to do so. You can either make their life difficult or try to improve the situation for everyone- either choice is going to take time away from you.
  2. Yeah springers are hell on scopes. The weaver rings my scope came with is textured so even having the rings really loose still requires quite a bit of force to move the scope. That is definitely a nice looking scope. Comes down to what you're willing to pay. When I ordered my scope it wasn't $50, it was $30 and that was my price target. The only problem I get is the weaver rail screws coming loose and getting scope creep that way. I should just get some locktite and it'll fix that pretty easily. My blackhawk is a serious defect rifle. When I say massive barrel droop, I mean outstandingly massive. Like I have to aim 2 yards up from 20 yards on iron sights set to the highest setting. I don't believe there is a seal issue since the power is the same as my airhawk(shot a phone book with both at 30 yards, pellets went in the same distance). Again it doesn't really matter since I have the airhawk now which IMO waaaaaaaaay worth the extra $17 for 2 stage trigger and solid wooden stock.
  3. This is what I have: http://www.amazon.com/UTG-Mil-dot-Scope-Airgun-Pre-adjusted/dp/B003BONFGI/ref=pd_sbs_sg_6 You'll also need a weaver rail: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CJ67E6/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'd also recommend getting one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002Z4JGL8/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It helps a ton in loading time. Without it, you typically reach into your canteen, inspect the pellet, orient it then load it. This pretty much makes the loading procedure 1/4 the time allowing for followup shots.
  4. I'd recommend the Ruger Airhawk .17. It's an awesome air rifle. It's dead on accurate with less then ideal pellets. The trigger is 2 stage, very crisp and predictable. The scope it came with is alright but I'd recommend swapping it out for something better since this rifle has a ton of kick. Best of all- it's very inexpensive at $117 from amazon(obviously can't have it shipped to NJ but if you have a friend or family in PA you can just drive it over). I also have the Ruger blackhawk and while it's also a good rifle- I think they are made to different specs. The trigger is much better on the airhawk(2 stage on airhawk, single on blackhawk) and the wood stock does make the rifle feel much better. My blackhawk also has a ton of barrel droop which the scope can't adjust for. I essentially have to aim WAY high with the blackhawk. It's why I went and got the airhawk since no matter what I couldn't correct the blackhawk at all. I'm sure I just got a bad blackhawk but since it's NJ, like you I ran into the same problems about returning. Now I just use my blackhawk for shits and giggles experiments like how a certain pellets deform hitting a bucket of water without worrying the water gets all over my airhawk. Disclaimer is that it's not made by Ruger but licensed out to a Chinese company. Regardless, it's made to Ruger quality. I only recommend you take the stock off, apply some good oil where needed and make sure the screws are nice and tight. If you do only that you will have a wonderful air rifle that will last a long time. Here's a link to amazon http://www.amazon.com/Ruger-Hawk-Combo-Rifle-Large/dp/B002N45PQU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1378940248&sr=8-1&keywords=ruger+airhawk
  5. The fact that he vetoed the 50cal is extremely mysterious to me. Did everyone already forget his speech about how he even personally believes that such weapons of destruction should not be available to the public? I don't know if he came to his senses or he's playing political games. It's good to see he vetoed the bills, especially the sweeny bill. Though I would of wanted him to veto it for being voted on illegally and have some people thrown in prison for it. You can't stop a vote midway just cause it's not going how you wanted it to then move the venue where you KNOW you'll get the votes instead. We have laws against that yet no one is facing a god damn trial. All in all, this battle was won- but the war still ravages on.
  6. You have a valid point. I just don't see how NJ can ever reverse it's gun laws even if somehow you dumped a fortune into it. The people are the problem here, they scare easily. If you can't get the right people into office, no amount of money can change anything. Look at CO for example- 2 of the state senate members who pushed for their universal background and mag limit are being hassled for a recall and will now either resign or a new election will come up. 55 of the 64 Sheriffs are suing the state along with a number of gun right groups(not the NRA). Certain counties setup their own regulations toward gun laws, one even made it so there is no mag limit ban. And this is from a "legitimate" ruled in law. They didn't break any rules bringing them into law. Compare that to NJ that broke it's own laws just to make more gun control laws- nothing happen. That tells you the grand majority of NJ like stricter gun laws. How would any support from the NRA or anyone for that matter ever change that? There's always going to be anti's and people who are gun nuts. The south are full of gun nuts where we wished we had even half the gun rights they do. Over here is the polar opposite. Even if you forced every anti out of CA/NJ/NY, they just end up somewhere else to plague. CO had an influx of CA people come in and look at what they are trying to do in a state that is massively pro gun.
  7. In all honesty NJ is a lost cause. I know people don't want to hear that but it's true. The money IS better spent on maintaining/advancing other states where it goes somewhere. Just look at how our state government conducts itself. If the vote isn't what you want, you stop voting and move it to a new venue. No amount of money can compete with such corruption in legal ways. They broke their own laws plain and simple yet nothing happen. They were caught on tape admitting the ultimate goal is confiscation yet nothing happen. Let's admit it- NJ people don't want law abiding citizens to own guns. Politicians NEED criminals to have guns to skew their stats for their agenda. We'll never see rational laws to arm the honest and disarm criminals, ever. Ontop of that, it seems we're locked in a race to the bottom between NY, CA and NJ. How can you compete with mass liberal brainwashed hogshit like this. They have an entire government on every level pushing this, we have a minority who must pay for the other side and our own. Face it- it's a losing fight. All you can do is slow it down. Think about it- if all that money was diverted to NJ, what would realistically happen? Would we really get any of our rights back? I highly doubt it. Ontop of that- other states wouldn't get as much funding to fight the anti's. You could slowly start adding more states in the race to the bottom. Is that what you really want? NJ, CA and NY being joined by more states with a multiplying effect? Having that money spent on other states does help NJ and America as a whole. I'm not saying you should start giving your money for other people's well being but don't ask for the money donated already to be ill spent. The ultimate form of protest is to leave. Yes I know most can not- it's not an option due to ties we have here. But if you can, it's the best thing to do. First off it's 1 less person contributing to this failing state. Second is you can have a better quality of life in the form of lower taxes, more freedoms, less police state. Will you make as much elsewhere? No but that's not such a bad thing either. Considering our Federal Theft Tax(IRS federal income) is based on a flat amount you make and places where you don't earn as much tend to have things cost less. Houses, property, property tax, insurance, etc all cost less in most other states. My 60 year old house here valued at $300k is only 1600 sqft on .44acre of land. CO for example, that same $300k can get me a brand new 2200sqft house($200k) on 5 acres of land($100k) at 1/5 the property tax(.45-.6% CO vs 2.515% NJ). It can and does equal out vs certain items that are flat across the nation such as cars. Third is the point of states having their own laws is so that if a state becomes too bad you can leave to a much better state. If more people practiced this- you would see massive change in NJ big time.
  8. CO legalized it entirely for anyone. Don't even need a card. I heard there's even smoke bars(or cafes wtvr) all over already. I'm not worried about that- where as even if I was eligible in any other state(outside WA) it would seriously impact me. I'm not saying CO is for everyone. Based on my research and findings- it is for me for sooooooo many reasons. I always wanted to move but have a home and business here. Now I'm selling the business(something I have been planning for years) and my brother says he can buy my home. I am blessed with the chance to finally leave. I sincerely hope the rest of you can find that same chance, this fascist NJ state gov is too much for me. I can't do it anymore.
  9. Maybe, maybe not- It doesn't matter. The areas I'm looking at are all very pro gun. Half the sheriffs said they will not enforce mag limits. Ontop of that- you should know how they are going about the mag limit to understand why it won't work. They are trying to allow grandfathering of mags over 15 by having you go and get your mag serialized. No one is going to do this- it'll be mass civil disobedience. So even if it stays in the books for a while- I doubt the mag ban is gonna work in CO. Plus I am not a 1 issue person. I have many many aspects of my life I need to consider. I am a car guy- CO has no inspections so you can do whatever you want. I have severe chronic pain from having to replace my ACL/PCL/MCL in 1 knee- MJ is pretty much the only thing that helps without side effects of PKers such as constipation, liver damage, stomach ulcers, and I have a fast building tolerance to PKs. I had to take 12-16mg of hydromorphone(dilodid- the strongest PK that can be prescribed out of hospitals) 4 times a day after my surgery to give ya an idea of how bad the pain is. It's literally like a stuck serrated knife poking you every step. Even NJ retarded MMJ laws would not allow me to get a prescription since chronic pain isn't included- but boy oh boy can I get hopped on all the painkillers I could ever not want =/. Taxes are killing me here- CO has 3% sales and 5-7.5% property tax on a 7.96% assessed value, literally about .477% property tax compared to my current 2.515%, over 5x the amount. Everything else here is so expensive- cigs, insurance, healthcare, state income tax, etc. etc. Is CO the best gun state? No, definitely not. However there's far more then that for me and CO fits the bill plus its at least 100x better then NJ in the guns department. CCW, No AWB, I can have all the "evil" features I want, C&R FFL license that actually means something(I want to start collecting old guns from revolutionary war to WW2), Can transport without worrying if that BK large drink was such a good idea, No FPID, most counties won't even enforce the silly mag limit so who cares. So- what else do I really need? It's everything I want.
  10. How is it not friendly? A mag limit that will be gone in a year cause waaay more then half the state thinks its a stupid plan and even the sheriffs said they will not enforce it. A county already made it law that any law restricting 2a and any enforcement of such laws would be illegal.
  11. And stuff like this is why I decided 2 weeks ago to move out of NJ next year. I am thinking CO as they are pretty gun friendly, nice state, the county I'm looking at has an active sheriff who says she will NOT enforce a single new state gun law(like the 15 mag limit) and spearheading half of the states sheriffs to take the state to court over it. Seriously- fuck this states tax, gun laws, joke of a justice system, drug laws(we made medical MJ legal 4 years ago, they STILL haven't made a single place to purchase), traffic laws, and just everything government. It's a shame cause I like my area and NJ is a nice state- I can't take this anti-christ spawn of a government anymore and leaving. Honestly- I recommend the same for alot of you.
  12. I did alot of reading on the .416 Barret has come out with a few years ago. Apparently it is a superior round to their .50bmg. It'll stay super sonic much longer, more accurate and jersey legal. They even CNC the 416 bullet and uses the .50bmg casing modified to fit the 416. So while it still sucks for people who have a AE500, those who want a Barret can still get the 416 and actually have a better round. I read there's a promo code for 200 free 416 rounds($1000 value) if you buy a Barret rifle in .415. I don't know if the promo is still good but what a deal.
  13. "Under the provisions of the bill, it would be unlawful for anyone to possess a prohibited firearm of 50 caliber or greater. The bill, however, grants individuals who lawfully own one of these prohibited firearms one year in which to dispose of them." Seems no grandfather clause either for .50. It also doesn't differentiate between an AE 500 and .50 BMG so even .50 desert eagles and the like would be banned too. Complete and utter BS. Bet ya more then 10 people are now going to be pissed.
