  1. I suspect the rules you were inquiring about come from the State more than the range. I could be wrong, I'm due for that I think.
  2. The FID requirement might be because we're registered with the State, either that and/or insurance purposes. Some FFLs will not let you touch a gun without a FID. I know we have part time residents as members. I don't know them directly, but I've heard them being announced. New members are introduced at the club meeting, nothing fancy, just name and town you're from. Best bet is to email Rob and see what he says. Just be patient, I think I waited a day to hear back from him the first time I reached out.
  3. I don't do three gun, just USPSA & IDPA. I prefer American Eagle as it's clean and doesn't give me trouble. I used to get 147, then switched to 124 due to price and availability. I'm not good enough that the ammo will make that much of a difference. I'm just beginning the process of reloading.
  4. Glad I made the trek up North, even though I burned through a lot of gas. Came home to plumbing and appliance headaches though and still have company coming over I have to cook for.
  5. You guys are killing me. Reloading was supposed to save me money. I'll stick with what I've got now. I don't think there's a risk of me blowing up my gun or house as long as I'm not stupid.
  6. Handgun ammo requires your FID and purchase is logged into the book. Buying online varies, some retailers want you to send them DL & FID some will not sell to you at all. There's a thread or 20 on here that give examples. Ammo is not light weight, make sure you factor in shipping costs.
  7. Insomnia sucks. About to load my 8 cases of premium priced clays back into my truck. I'll be there early it seems. Dark gray GMC2500.
  8. I've been there many times. That's where I bought my SIG. Never looked. If they're $13 for a case of 135 I got raped. Now I know. Cheyenne returned my email just before they closed, said they carry them, didn't give qty or price.
  9. I'm using a RCBS carbide three-die set. Assumed it was best to use same brand dies as the press.
  10. Figures. I checked Walmart website, it said out of stock. Almost worth the extra price not dealing with wally ward and the people there though. You should've bought some, you could've made a small profit off of me.
  11. Deep inside I knew that was the right answer, I just didn't want it to be. Downsides of an open bed.
  12. You could try doing a price request through this site also, you might get lucky. If you're on the desktop version > top of page > More > Gun Price Requests.
  13. I hope you still need them. I just got home with 8 cases. Cheyenne doesn't answer their phone anymore apparently, want you to contact them via fb or email; then they don't respond to emails. I got them from Pineland in Jackson, down the road from CJ. He answers his phone. I paid $19.99 +tax for a case of 135; no idea if that's a good price or not. New guy question time again... How sensitive are these to moisture? Threat of some storms this afternoon/evening. Will they be ok in the bed of my truck with a tarp over them, or do I need to schlep this inside and back out in the morning?
  14. I increased the flare/expansion to the point I can place the bullet in the case without the "click" that it did before. Then adjusted the final die so the COAL is 1.160 +/- one or two thousands. I'm assuming that's within acceptable tolerances. Plunk Test was better so I cycled two through my gun. They passed so I made a total of 10 dummy rounds and cycled the same rounds three times. I did my best to slingshot the slide, I did not want my hand to influence it returning to battery. Out of those 30 cycles, the slide hesitated maybe 4-8 times. It did not fail to go into battery, but it did hesitate a hair. Realizing I never did this with factory ammo, I then did the same with factory ammo. I have two types on hand. Both Federal Eagle; a 124gr FMJ Round Nose, 1.148 COAL and what I believe to be 147gr FMJ Flat Nose, 1.067 COAL. That ammo has been in my night-stand magazines for a year or two now. The FN cycled with zero hesitation; the RN I felt the hesitation about half as much as my dummy loads with the Truncated Nose. It might be interesting to note at this point the 124 RN is what I've been using for competitions and have had a few minor glitches the last couple of times out. To me this says, this particular handgun likes a smaller COAL and/or flat nose bullets. Gun is a 1st Gen M&P by the way. I am about to set these ten dummy rounds further to get closer to 1.13 to 1.14 COAL. I've already thought about making sure I load the first live rounds on the low side due to higher pressure created by the shorter COAL.
  15. A hand-me-down RCBS Rock Chucker Single Stage.
  16. Another thing I meant to ask earlier... I kept reading about the need of a sturdy bench for the press; so I was expecting to need a good amount of effort to run the press. That has not been my experience. I need very minimal pressure through all stages. Is that since I'm only running 9mm through it?
  17. It looks like some of the coating is being scraped off when I seat the bullet, does that mean I should increase the flare/expansion or is this fine? All I found with regard to how much to expand was to expand until a bullet clicked into the casing by hand. When I did the Plunk Test it dropped all the way down, but did not freely spin and did not fall right out when I inverted the barrel, I had to shake the barrel slightly. That means I need to seat the bullet deeper, for a smaller COAL, correct? This case is marked G.F.L. 9mm Luger; Bullet is from Northeast Reloading, 124gr Accu Coat Truncated Cone. COAL on this cartridge is 1.164; "D" is .3755; E is .3561
  18. Liberty is essentially colored hot water, very little flavor. I'll increase the amount of grounds next time, but I would not buy again. Now I'm off to the basement to seat some dummy rounds and if all goes well load a few live rounds.
  19. If anyone has extra they're willing to sell also I may need. Closest place to me I can think of is Cheyenne and they're still doing reduced hours and capacity due to the bat flu. I don't know if the Walmart near me carries them, will try to check.
  20. I'm drinking the "AK Espresso" now, black no sugar. It's different, not bad, not outstanding. It does taste better than it smells. BRC was getting on my nerves with aggressive marketing emails. They did stop as soon as I changed my subscription preferences. Some companies give you that BS that it takes a week or five to remove you from the lists. I don't want/need their app on my phone or t-shirts or stickers, or Op Ed pieces. I just need/want coffee.
  21. The following are my opinions only and they come from someone with much less experience than many here. Also, the only Southpaw in my family is my Mother, so I can not offer direct advise there. Some mfg are more accommodating to lefties than others. You probably already knew that though from Rifles. Do not go larger than 9mm, 22 is best, but there will be limited options there. Fondle as many as you can. Heavier guns have less felt recoil. Longer barrelled guns increase the distance between the sights which makes it easier to aim. You don't "need" a $1500 1911 as your first handgun. Budget priced guns are great to start with while you decide what features you like and dislike. Some mfg have multiple size backstraps to accommodate various hand sizes. Some handguns allow you to remove the FCU (fire control unit) and install it into a third party frame for even further accommodations and customization. Just like with Rifles, the quality of the trigger matters. Dry fire anything you're permitted to. Revolvers are still a thing and some swear by using them as a platform to learn trigger discipline. Zeke will tell you to buy a SIG.
  22. Got room and patience for one more? I pushed my prior responsibility off to later in the day. I've never attempted skeet/trap/5-stand/etc... before. I have a Remington 1100 20 gauge that I've never shot. A good supply of "target" shells and a willingness to listen & learn. I have no clays; I'll see if I can pick some up Saturday. Anything I need to be looking for: size, composition or other? I did mention I'm new to this discipline, right?
  23. Correction, my Remington is a 20 gauge. The meal was scheduled as a lunch. I think I managed to push it off to an early dinner/supper.
  24. You successfully convince my wife, parents & in-laws that I won't be home to cook them a belated Mother & Father day meal & I'm not seen as a the bad guy in the end and I will. O yeah, it's also for my FIL's b-day.
  25. I suck. I forgot about this and I'm half way into my second beer already. It's been that kind of week at work. I'm going to put a weekly reminder into my phone now. I've got a Remington 1100 12 gauge, that's doable, correct? What type of shells are best? Reminder from my the top, I've NEVER shot trap, skeet, 5-stand, etc... Heck, I haven't shot this Remington yet, I bought it from a friend when he was moving out of the Country and couldn't take it with him.
