  1. they use parts from the same factory that honda and subaru use. the engines are predominantly subaru robin clones, and the gen heads are honda clones.
  2. ballz deep, yo. here was the question/problem: could I run a dedicated generator for the condenser, another for the rest of the house including the air handler, and not blow shit up? here's why I think it's possible: I have an APC UTS10BI transfer switch, that'll automatically switch between utility/generator/UPS power sources. The way it connects is in-line with the feed from the breaker to each of 10 loads (9 technically, as one is a 240V). Now what that means is, only those 10 circuits will be on generator power. However, if utility comes back, the rest of the panel will then be on utility power, while at the same time those 10 circuits are still on generator power. That is until the UTS switches back over, which takes about 5 seconds before it decides to do so. ONLY the hots are switched; all the neutrals and grounds are tied together at the main panel. So i'm thinking, that's a pretty good demonstration that I can run the condenser and the air handler on different power sources, and not have the comms wires between them blow shit up. If that's the case, I think I'll want to re-think my generator setup here; it gives me the option of having more than 1 generator available as source for different things. I could split the ultra critical loads (servers and basement A/C, fridge, freezer) to a command-started generator of appropriate size (probably similar to the 5500W unit I have now. maybe a bit smaller like the HF 3500W inverter generator) that's just to keep that working like I need it to, then figure out what i need to run the rest.
  3. You got a Gen1 to run in parallel with it? Would be really interested in some real-world unedited comparison.
  4. eta: you know, I think I just answered my question about, can I supply different loads with different generator, and not blow shit up. lemme finish waking up and I'll type up my thoughts.
  5. my issue is, I run a biz from my home that requires 24/7 power (technically.) it's one of the reasons I was looking at the split generator idea before. I hate the idea of firing up a 10kW+ generator to supply a 2kW average draw.
  6. well, my current generator allows me to run my house for about 5 gallons of gasoline per day. I only run it for 16 hours a day though.
  7. that's why I'm looking at running on all 3 if needed.
  8. my goals are to have mine as tri-fuel at the end of the day. Sandy demonstrated why having flexibility is a good thing. NG would be the "primary" source. LP would be backup #1, until I can get the gas cans filled (backup #2.) I'll probably still do the whole fill the gas cans before a known major storm though. I cycle it through the lawn mower, or after 6 months, tanker up one of the cars and use it up. In fact, that's a mod/idea for the new generator shed design: make the air intake draw air from the separate segment that has the gas cans, and that has the outside intake vent. I need to get on with the sketchups.
  9. it's usually still pretty golden when I pull it out of the cars. I've even sprung for the occasional blackstone labs test, just to keep an eye on things. they've always reported back that my 6k change interval on the cars could be pushed as far as 9k or 10k, but I'll stick with 6; if anything I'm more worried about the filter. oil and filters are cheap (highly recommend people look for master cases, you can save a nice amount that way) and engines are expensive. it's a no brainer. has anyone seen what the current supply of generators is like? I haven't gone out shopping yet during this latest round of shenanigans.
  10. yea ignition isn't 100% precise, even on the best of engines. still relying on a chemical reaction to happen and the variables can tolerance stack easily and quickly. combine that with a single cylinder or even a dual and a missed/improper ignition event can cause that sound. same here, I don't worry about it as long as the power supply is consistent. loading helps keep the governor from being at it's low limit, which also helps air-fuel mixture to be more consistent. a perfect example is harley's and any big bore single or twin cylinder motorcycle.
  11. Just remember to stay on that maintenance. all those exercise cycles add up fast. 12 minutes might not be enough to cook off all the moisture sucked into the oil. I've been having an internal debate about stepping up from a 10kW to a 12kW on my planned upgrade; the price jump is dramatic (~$1000 for 10kW to more than double that for 12kW+) but I get things like dual cylinders, pressurized oil feed (vs. splashed), oil cooler, and spin-on oil filter (vs. none at all.)
  12. what? I run all the generators I service on walmart brand syntech 10w30 full synthetic. have for almost 2 decades. no issues.
  13. @WP22 share pictures, and we'll do our best to help.
  14. This storm has exposed issues that I should have been aware of, and a lack of proper situational planning and testing, specifically for my mom. I'm hella pissed off at myself for letting this happen. Fuck everything else: August is the month I do all the things I've said/planned/thought about doing, and do them right.
  15. you should look at it by county. the picture it paints is ugly. what the fuck happened to JCP&L's shit, such that such a massive widespread outage happened.
  16. My real question is, would the V1G1 have worked as well? Not trying to be a total cheapsake, but I'm still not seeing massive compelling evidence to swap/upgrade, other than the connectivity and user-firmware upgradablility.

    LAV? lesbian attracting vehicle?
  18. oh nice. almost looks like I'd be better off getting the BT adapter for my V1G1 at this point then. I figured out a thing where I can conveniently set my phone in front of the gauge cluster in the wife's car, see the gauges and the display for waze and everything else, without it looking like a fucking cop car on my dash.
  19. only thing I want to know on the Gen2 is, the bluetooth connectivity: I run Waze and Pandora on my phone, and stream it to the car stereo via bluetooth. can I connect the Gen2 as well, and have the alerts come through the stereo, maybe even mute the music? Same as Waze does? And have the visual alerts pop up on the phone? that way i can run the Gen2 dark, like I do with my Gen1 and the remote display.
  20. he want to buy any more? I might be willing to part with some at that price.
  21. amazon has delayed my reloading press 3 times now. fuckers.
  22. Clay bar was step 4 way back in March. wash (liquid ivory soap, no additives), degrease (simple green), iron remove (eagle one), clay bar. I actually thought it looked good after the clay... boy was I wrong after the first panel and compound/polish!
  23. naw. that's still an in-progress pic. Starting to think, I might like this color more than the 90s Aqua Pearl Coat I have on my Shadow.
  24. haven't even gotten to coating yet. still on the compound/polish stage. hoping to have all the heavy prep work done by end of this weekend, get the garage setup to do the final polish pass, then clean and Avalon King the whole thing. applying any kind of wax or ceramic before fixing the paint is just a total waste. you *think* it looks better, but until you really get in there and polish the paint you have no idea. pictures really don't do it justice how much of a difference it is.
  25. before: after: whole car was like this. 15 years of neglect on the paint. worst part has been, revealing all the little flaws and nicks I now HAVE to fix to make it look right for my OCD. gallery pictures if anyone really wants to see more. https://imgur.com/a/3F01SmF https://imgur.com/a/AcMpXed https://imgur.com/a/7ABTX27 https://imgur.com/a/kfgpPzd https://imgur.com/a/dCc8Wup
