  1. Coupon excludes ammo, but young cashiers don't know how to read i guess... Got 2 boxes of Winchester 115 grain 100 round value packs normally $32 for $21 each with the coupon and discount. Went out to my truck (small suv actually) dropped the 2 boxes, got 2 more from the lodge and used the coupon again at a different cashier.
  2. Got my Texas CHL in the mail yesterday. Total was 16 business days from the time I submitted the paperwork. Thanks again for the referral! Jason couldn't have made it any easier.
  3. You could always apply for Arizona non resident CCW. Paperwork is a bit easier then Florida, and it'll double your chances of getting a CCW permit back before your trip
  4. Sounds like the most painless and legal way to go is to ship it to a FFL before you leave. Check with your FFL in NJ to see if he accepts transfers from non FFL holders... could save you a few bucks shipping it yourself. I've never been on a Amtrak train before. Do they do have "TSA" style security check points with body and luggage screening?
  5. Yeah sorry, I've been busy as hell since I've been back from vacation. Trying to catch up on work... But yea! Thanks for the referral! I actually flew into Phoenix on the 5th to visit my Father. On the return trip I "arranged" to have a 6 hour layover in Houston. Jason Picked me up from the airport, took me to get finger printed, then to the range for my proficiency demonstration, then had classroom training and lunch at Pappas BBQ, then had me back to the airport with an hour to spare for my wife and I to throw down a few shots before the 4 hour flight home! I can honestly say his training class was the best CCW/ Defensive training class I've been to. Super informative and he delivers the material really really well. All I needed to do when I got home was upload the 2 Forms (CHL-100 and CHL-6) along with a copy of my license and a passport photo to the Texas CHL website. This was yesterday (6/15) so I'll keep you guys updated when I actually receive it.
  6. It fits really snug. Will leather holsters typically rub off a blued finish? Been calling around all day trying to find .25 ACP. Nothing in stock. Looks like I won't be able to shoot it while I'm over here. Good point!
  7. Visiting My old man in Arizona and I brought my M&P 340 to CC while I'm here. Started talking guns and he remembered he had bought this a while back but never fired it. Has all the original accessories plus some neat extras. Bianchi IWB Holster, Altamont Grips, extra Mag (I believe it only came with one) Anyway it's a first for me so i thought I'd share it. I need to figure out (if I could convince him to give or sell it to me) if I can just take it back with me on the plane or do I need to ship it through a FFL...
  8. Flew out of Newark today with my gun. No issues at all. Everyone at United was very professional about it. Thanks to this thread I knew how to pack it and It added maybe 15 minutes overall to my time spent at the check in counter.
  9. How did you manage to get a 12 hour layover? I'm going to Arizona on June 5th and on the return trip I have a 55 minute layover in Houston. I imagine I could still change the return flight. This sounds so awesome. Edit: just checked, I can change my flight to give me a 5 hour layover. Do you think that would be enough time?
  10. $65 is steep... i second Wortendyke Arms in Midland Park. Jeff is a great guy to deal with and $40 OTD is one of the cheapest around.
  11. Congratulations on the new bow! I'm so torn between buying a new gun or a new bow. Going for my NJ hunting license next weekend and debating on if I even want to take the Bow and Arrow portion.. But it looks like a sweet setup. enjoy!
  12. Could you submit NICS before your OGAM is up. Then pick it up when you're at 30 days?
  13. Did he offer to price match what you found online? Or were the online prices only slightly better? Also, which Bow did you go with?
  14. Holy cow was that show big. I'm actually exhausted. Lots of good stuff. Didn't buy anything but some pickles and BBQ sauce. And a NRA membership...
  15. 686 PC Just brought her home today
  16. I appreciate the info either way guys. I have a about a month to really decide which way to go. Its all good stuff to consider. I ordered a few boxes of ammo to have on hand that you guys recommended and had decent reviews off midway. Some Semi Wadcutters, Some JHP and some critical defense in both standard pressure and +P for when I do decide. They were all out of the Gold Dots though. For now i'm going to shoot the hell out of my new 686!
  17. I was in Targeteers the other day and there was a sign that read something like "if you draw a bow back be prepared to pay for it" Is this common? Are you not supposed to draw back when shopping for bows?
  18. So while i wasnt planning on shooting .357 Magnum in the J Frame, It's nice to know i could. I was however planning on practicing with +P's. Long term I wanted to know how the standard airweight would hold up. I'm not talking about 200 rounds every week, but ending a range session with a box of +P ammo as often as i go (every other week) would mean at least a couple hundred rounds in less then a year. I have read about the airweight j frames developing timing and other issues over time and my thought was the M&P340 would hold up better. I also like the front sight on the M&P 340 over the standard j frame sight. Just so were on the same page Pizza Bob, the M&P340 is 13oz and comes with a SS cylinder. The 340PD is the Titanium cylinder one and weigns in at 11oz. Either way i really have no plans on running 357 through it. I absolutely agree... Just because you can doesn't mean you should. The only gun i really have no interest in is the full steel J frames.
  19. I was considering the all steel model 640, but for pretty much the same money I would have a much lighter gun that could also fire .357 and the weight savings (13 oz vs 23 oz) would mean i wouldn’t mind carrying it more frequently. Like they say about cameras “ the best one is the one you have on you” not the one you left home because it was to heavy to carry around. I completely understand the argument about the extra weight being more controllable, but i figured for sure with the right ammo you’d have comparable control for follow-up shots. 10 oz is a lot. thats like walking around with 2 extra phones on you all day. You brought up another good point about durability and thats something that was spotty while i was doing my research. Will firing hundreds of +P rounds through an airweight revolver eventually loosen up the gun? My plan once i get it is to practice practice practice. Mostly with the ammo I'm going to be carrying in it. I don't want to have to repeatedly send it back to S&W to tighten things up. Ive also considered the LCR but I liked the trigger on the S&W’s better. Weight isn’t much different then where I’m at with the S&W’s either. Which Lead Semi Wadcutters do you use? HP or Flat nose?
  20. I'm picking up a J-frame revolver and I'm between the M&P340 and the 642 Performance Center. Both are lightweight (13 vs 15oz) but the M&P can shoot .357. Now i don't plan on shooting .357's through it, but its nice to know that i could.. I'm going to buy a bunch of different ammo and see which i like better. I'm considering Hornady Critical Defense .38 Special +P 110 gr, but in your guys opinion which should i try first? This is going to be my out of state CCW/backup bedside gun. Those of you who CCW out of state, what type of ammo do you bring with you?
  21. Is it for members only or open to the public?
  22. Thanks for the info. Going to make that my next project. I have all the info for my firearms, but I guess I should do it for every other expensive item in the apartment.
  23. I've always wondered about this. How do you guys itemize your valuables? I have a blanket 15k policy for renters insurance but they never asked me to itemize... I was thinking about doing a spreadsheet but don't want to waste my time if insurance wont accept it in the event of fire or theft.
