  1. I'm guessing those stamps just mean he can have it in FL not NJ. Please let us know more.
  2. After some quick looking it seems deductions need to improve and develop current job-related skills. Still going to do more checking
  3. Are there any tax write off's for gun owners? specifically non law enforcement I believe if you were training for a new career, expenses such as classes, training, club memberships, specialized equipment can be written off. If you were training for possibly a change in careers or a part time job as an armed guard would this still apply? I'll be checking with my accountant next month, but does anyone have first hand knowledge of this?
  4. I there a way to observe without participating? I'm thinking about joining OBRPC but want to check out the range first.

    3 gun pistol!

I was in a similar situations as you. I ended up renting many, many times at RTSP in East Randolph. There you are able to rent then switch out the pistol for another as long as it is the same caliber for no charge. You need to check their policy about 1st time shooters I know it recently changed. Find out what range closes to you has rentals and go talk to them.
  6. Just ordered some from SGammo. Goal was to get everything done before the end of the year.
  7. Thanks everyone all for your advise given on this topic. I ended up buying a P226 Mk25 desert new from RTSP. Went through many, many rentals, this worked the best for me every time I rented it. I was very close to getting the TacOps, maybe I'll upgrade the trigger, front sights and switch the grips later to change things up. I had a hard time finding anything used that wasn't within a few hundred of brand new. So I just bought new. RTSP was excellent to deal with on all levels. Swapping out rental pistols was no issue (weekdays when slow) and on the range they helped me out every time they knew I needed it. Purchasing was pretty simple and price was within $50 of online. My advice to first time buyers don't worry about the permits expiring. Renting many times will let you know what works for you. I spent a few hundred in rentals and ammo but I feel it prevented me from buying something just to have until I bought what I wanted. At the range tell them your new to shooting, they will give you a little more attention if you need it. Just be respectful of their busy times, I only went on weekday mornings. I always made sure I wasn't holding up a sale or preventing workers from servicing others. Ok now I think I want to get a rifle so...
  8. You want to get this done as quick as possible. Don't worry if it costs an extra thousand or two. All it takes is one of her friends to stick there nose into this and screw it all up. Lawyers make more money when things get complicated. Until it is done be prepared for the worse and don't disclose anything extra that she doesn't need to know. Make sure she thinks she is 100% in the loop on everything. Tell her you can go to the lawyer together. But get it done as fast as possible.
  9. I just have to post about my experience when I filed in Edison for my fid and pistol permits. She noticed an error on my paper work and called me to correct it so it wasn't denied. Permits were done right around 30 days. Recently I extended 2 of the permits, that took a few days, then she called me to pick them up. The 2 police offices that stated the longer wait have nothing to do with filing for the permit. So I would say that is one of the good stations.
  10. For 9mm I liked the shooting p226 but I'm going to a class and lesson before my 1st purchase. One of the permits will expire I'll look into the extension when I get back in NJ. Since I already went to RTSP in a few days I'll be checking out Gun for Hire then decide which is better for me. I'm also going to checkout an event at Old Bridge.
  11. Well I just got back from RTSP, I checked out the p226's, the mk25 felt great in my hand another p226 with different grips felt not as good. I didn't seem to mind the ds/sa trigger. I guess I need to read what the issues are with them. I briefly looked at the some 22 cal but ended up going back to 9mm and renting the p226. Next time I might check out GFH and play with the 22s. RTSP was great on giving me a quick refresher on things and answering questions. They didn't seemed to recommend one pistol over the other. I didn't want to ask to see and feel everything in the case. But overall great experience going up there. I did really like the shooting p226 but I think I'll take the advise of taking the class and lesson before my 1st purchase. Isn't going to be any cheaper and my feels good might not Any issues with buying a used gun online, sight unseen, especially since I couldn't tell you if one was abused or not? But keep the comments coming they are defiantly helping me out.
  12. I'm looking at purchasing my 1st pistols. I have 3 permits in hand and an idea of what I think I want. Most likely I'll take the beginners classes at either GFH or RTSP. Next I'll be looking at joining the old bridge club since its close by, and the competitions sound like a good time. I'm looking to end up with a 22 pistol and rifle for the competitions, cheap fun and for guests to use with me at the ranges. I'm also looking to get a 9mm and possibly an AR or AK type rifle. Currently I'm looking at the Ruger sr22 and the Sig sauer p226 mk24. I have about 2 weeks before my 1st permit expires. So my 1st purchase would most likely be the 22sr since its cheaper and I can spend more time checking out the other variants of the p226. I feel I don't know enough to buy a used one and for the Sig it seems like used ones are not much cheaper than brand new ones. So what do you find yourself always repeating over and over to people new to shooting?
  13. I applied 8/24/15, permits ready for pickup 9/30/15 I know my references, did paperwork immediately. I did check in after 3 weeks asking how I would be notified and that everything was in order. She said all is fine. 2 weeks later got a call saying permits would be ready in a few days, then an email saying they can be picked up.
