Yup, even if the EventBrite page says "sold out", if you really want to go, it's a good idea to show up equipped anyway - especially when the weather might be iffy, there'll usually be some no-shows. But we'll be back at SJSC. Great club and they like Project Appleseed.

AtlanticCounty, we were not and are not racists. As I've posted on the NY Times site, on my line I've had Caucasians, Orientals, African-Americans, Jamaicans, Hispanics... and the only way I remember that is by looking at the pictures I've taken at my shoots, 'cause I don't see color when I'm running the line. I see people not squeezing the trigger, I see them not following through on the trigger, I see them breathing incorrectly, I see them letting their fingers jump off the trigger after the shot, I see them "dragging wood" and I see them not getting into the proper position... but I don't see what color they are. I'm too darn busy instructing them in Marksmanship and telling them the stirring story of April 19th, 1775. And, Smity? I'm sorry to say that I'm not in the Militia. At age 50, I'm too old. I'd be on the "Alarm list". I am, however, as we put it at the shoots, a Dangerous Old Man - kind of like Samuel Whittemore, Jason Russell or (my hero!) Hezekiah Wyman! Don't know who they are? Dragging this thread back on topic by the throat... Yes, it does. So my question still stands: is it legal for me, a Massachusetts resident, to bring my handguns to New Jersey (my ENDING DESTINATION) to shoot? FOPA has nothing to do with it as I'm not traveling through, but TO NJ. Oh, and for me, aside from my best friend and mother living in NJ, my top reason to visit is Hot Bagels on Saddle River Road in Fair Lawn - best bagels ANYWHERE.

Any cites for this? Reason I ask is that while my buddy told me the same thing, while I was on my way out of MA I stopped at a gunsmith to pick up my 1911 (getting new sights), and when he heard that I was heading for NJ, he pulled the "I'm a former cop, and that's illegal" routine on me. He mentioned a friend of his who got nailed traveling through (stopped to fix a flat and a statie saw the rifle cases in his trunk) NJ. And while thinking of this, I remembered the story of the guy from Utah who got busted because his connecting flight (at Newark) got cancelled, so he had to overnight in NJ with his checked guns... and got arrested when he arrived the next morning for his new flight. It's not an urgent thing - I was there this past weekend - but I'd like to know for sure for next time. And I'd like to have a copy of the relevant statutes for my friend. You know, Justin Case?

Well... I've noticed that the 795 isn't as robust as the 10/22 - I've seen two of them barf their ejectors right out of them at Appleseed Shoots (where we shoot anywhere from 500 - 1200 rounds in a weekend), and I've heard of it happening to others. I'd pay the extra for the 10/22. They're built like tanks and you can literally replace EVERY part on it with aftermarket parts should you so desire. (My first 10/22, acquired in 1981, now has a Weaver scope, VQ extractor, an extended mag release and the bolt release and the hammer have both been modified. I've also added sling swivels and a Garand-style sling.)

Title says it all. I no longer live in NJ but my best friend still does. Can I bring either my rifles or my handguns down while visiting him so that we can go shooting? I do still have, somewhere, my FID card from 28 years ago, and the FLPD tells me that I can get the address changed to my current address (MA), so I'm guessing that the rifles are OK. What about handguns? (I know about keeping them in a locked container, etc).

Don't have the book, but I met Richard Gilbert and his lovely bride when they came down to the Appleseed Shoot in Winslow, NJ back in July. Nice guy and very knowledgeable.

Oh, believe me - she IS going to the range with me. I'm also going to try and find her a Basic Handgun Safety course in Boston, since she needs it for her LTC. In the meantime... doesn't ANYONE remember Vera whatshername who defended herself in Paterson, NJ back in the 80's? I'd REALLY like to find an online reference to her. What I remember: I'm pretty sure her first name was Vera and she was 68 when this happened. She'd had some friends over to her apt, I think, and she heard a noise in her front hall. She went out and discovered a black male, 30's, approx 6', standing there. They were both startled and he ran... but came back later. Meantime, this lady had gotten an old revolver from her bedroom that her husband had bought some thirty years earlier. Intruder came in, old lady discovered that she had the courage to stand up to the intruder. Result? The thirty year old ammo worked... and I seem to remember it was a one-shot stop, too, as he dropped where he stood. This ringing any bells? Can anyone help me? I've tried googling what details I remember but apparently it's not specific enough.

Anyone remember this story? Happened sometime in the early 80's, IIRC. Vera something was her name, I think. She shot an intruder in her apartment with a gun that her husband had bought like 30 years previously and never fired. Anyway, if anyone can find a copy of this story online, I'd appreciate it - need it for a debate I'm having with a friend. (She wants a shotgun 'cause someone threatened her neighbor with a knife... but she's got all sorts of anti-gun BS in her mind still. :roll: Need some facts to counteract her bullsh*t).

NortheastShooters normally holds several shoots a year (we've got two coming up in July, and we're working on a car shoot in September), but this time we wanted to do a shoot with a Purpose. One of our members is also putting together an AR-15, which will have "In Memory Of The Village Idiot" etched on the receiver, that we'll raffle off and donate the proceeds to his kids.

Honestly, that's about the third cigar I've ever smoked in my life. That picture was taken at a charity fundraiser shoot that I ran for http://www.northeastshooters.com - we had about 90 guys, girls and kids show up at Woodman Rifle and Pistol in Athol, MA, to raise some money for one of our members who was diagnosed with cancer. We raffled off a Mosin Nagant, a CZ82, auctioned off a Springfield XDm, a SW4040, a Ruger P345, a CZ452 in .17HMR (with 1200 rounds of ammo!) and a SMLE... not to mention various other goodies (Russian beer, ammo, a child's tricycle, a hand made spinning rod, etc), and there was one guy who showed up with a couple hundred cigars who was selling them for a $10 donation. So that's where I got the cigar. (results? We raised about $6000 for Ed (screen name = TheVillageIdiot)... and he passed away, suddenly, about 2 & 1/2 weeks later. :cry: But at least he got to come down for the shoot (he lived in NH) and see how many folks turned out to help him.)

Couple of me on the range... Rifle is a scoped Lee-Enfield MK1 No III*. (for you milsurp purists, no, I didn't put it on; it was there when I bought it). First gun, a 1970 vintage S&W Model 19.

Do I dare mention that the folks at NorthEastShooters.com are on their second order of custom engraved AR-15 lowers? We did a 2008 run (seen below) and the 2009 run is being delivered next week. Got the logo laser-etched right on it, like this: Perhaps NJ Gun Forums can do the same. I'd be up for one...

In no particular order: .22LR handgun (semi OR revolver - both is even better!) .22LR rifle shotgun of some sort - 12GA or 20GA if you're recoil sensitive .357 revolver .45 ACP, preferably a 1911 but a CZ, Ruger, Sig, etc, will do. Battle rifle of some sort - M1, M1a, 1903, Mosin Nagant, etc. That's pretty much my minimum list. If you have more money to spend, then you can add Carbine (M1, SKS, AR-15, AK47, etc) bolt action rifle (take your pick!) in a caliber large enough to hunt with. 9 mm semiauto handgun .44 magnum revolver derringer of some sort - just for fun.

Just one more reason I won't buy from them. The other is that they're quivering in their little pink booties from the MA Attorney General threatening them over selling ammo here... did you know that they won't even ship a set of SCREWDRIVERS to MA because it says "Remington" on them? :roll:

Welcome from Marlborough... MA. From a former Fair Lawn resident. You are absolutely right about how nice gunnies are, as a group. I always find it amusing how surprised non-gun owners are the first time they meet gun owners at a range and see for themselves what we're like. (You'd think that Heinlein was right... an armed society IS a polite society! )

Why is the friend not allowed to possess the handgun in NJ? What if, for example, the friend was coming to NJ to shoot in a match - would that be possible? Or is NJ like MA, where you need a License To Carry to even possess a handgun?

Right now, the nearest and soonest Appleseed Shoots are Ramseur, NC or Van Etten, NY on Memorial Day weekend (3 day event). There are more events on the schedule. However... looks like we're getting closer to an NJ shoot. Keep the weekend of July 18-19 free.

A quick call to the PD in my old home town yielded the information that I can change the address with the licensing officer. I'll give him a call when he's in tomorrow... and we'll see what happens from there!

Does that have to be done in person, or can I mail it in? Or, since I still have, somewhere, the FID I was issued back in '81, should I just mail in a change of address to the chief of police in the town it was issued in?
