  1. First generation American, but 2nd generation gun owner. My father had a concealed carry permit since the mid 60s, altho seems like he stopped carrying shortly after I was born (no idea why). We never really talked about guns tho, so much so that he would get mad at me when i asked for toy guns as a kid. He did take me hunting a few times when we were on vacation back in the "homeland" and also bought me a couple small shotguns when I was in my teens (again, not here, but in the village back "home"). Even now things are a bit strange in regards to guns in my family.. when i was waiting for my FID my mom would complain that I didn't need guns in the house and "what are you going to do when you have kids - you can't have them in the house!" My dad was more of the "as long as he's careful with them, it's fine" mindset. When I finally picked up a few "toys" and I was showing them to my dad, his comments were "why do you need so many? those are the ones the police use.. you dont need that" LOL if it ain't a snub nosed .38, my dad doesn't get it haha My family is a bit nuts
  2. No offense... but.. who cares? You're alive... you can buy another gun... you can't buy another life. Stop thinking of your firearms as some irreplaceable commodity.. they're not. They're tools that serve a specific purpose. In a HD sitituation where the bad guy is down and you're not, the gun served it purpose and the least of your concerns should be losing some 600 dollar piece of metal and plastic.

    Glock vs Sig vs CZ

I guess I'm the freak in the bunch. I like the way the glock 19 feels in my hand.. but i had a blue gun version before I even bought the real one, so I knew what I was getting into. Aside from adding a Vicker's extended mag release (I couldn't consistently reach the stock mag release with my thumb without shifting the gun slightly), everything lines up just like it should for me. +1 on the M&P for those that don't like the Glock tho. I have an M&P 9, and it fits my hand very well. The adjustable back strap is a really nice feature. Now if they would only release some 15rnd mags for it!
  4. Prob shoulda called 911 before you shot the dude(s) - doesn't hurt to have a recording of you screaming at them to stop, leave, etc.
  5. Once you get everything zeroed, you could always loctite all the screws for the iron sights and optic mount to reduce the chance of something coming loose and losing zero. Either way, good luck with your search
  6. If I'm understanding what you're saying, the problem with putting something on top of the carry handle (without the lower forward portion) is that you're increasing the offset between the barrel and the optic by at least an inch. So, you're going from about a 2.5 inch offset to 3.5. This in turn will compromise your cheek weld. Plenty of people went this route in the 80s and 90s before removable carry handles were common, but, it's not an ideal set up. If you go with the mount in the link (assuming you can find one for an A3 handle) you may have some issues with the optic being too far forward, and, from what I've read about some of these sorts of mounts, you may run into issues with maintaining zero on the optic. If it was me, I'd either leave it with the carry handle and just use it that way, OR, ditch the handle, get a decent backup iron sight (fixed or folding - Larue, Troy, LMT, Daniel Defense, etc.), spend a few rounds zeroing the sight, and then figure out what sort of mount will work best with your chosen optic. I know the latter option sounds like a lot of work you probably don't wanna deal with, but I think you'll have more options to work with down the line in terms of customizing your set up just the way you want it. One last thing - I think UTG started off making parts for airsoft guns and then moved into the real gun market. While the price is attractive, I don't know that I'd want some beefed up toy parts on a firearm I may have to use to save my life one day. Prob not the answers you were looking for, but that's all I got
  7. ha! if you're referring to the URL, my initial thought was different as well!
  8. Some awesome pix there! Never heard of it before - thx!
  9. Always wanted a Scout or Bush M1A... sux they cost so much tho. I already dumped 1600 on an AR.. no way the wife will let spend that much again so soon
  10. Isn't the A3 handle removable? Why not just take it off and get a "regular" red dot mount?
  11. I have no first hand experience, but if you believe half of what you read online, it's probably best to avoid the Ciener kits. They seem to be very hit or miss, and their customer support is supposedly almost non-existent. That said, from what I understand, most .22 conversion kits are based on the Ciener design.. so take that for what it's worth

  13. Anthony, Thanks for putting on a great event! It was good seeing you again even if we didn't get a chance to chat much. Hopefully I can get the "wife" to come to the next one Take Care, Pete
  14. No doubt... which is why I bought my girl the digital camo pink P22 She may think I'm nuts half the time, but after going to the range with Anthony a couple weeks ago, she's been bugging me about when we're going again! Unfortunately, she couldnt attend today's event, but hopefully next time I go out she'll come along
  15. Back from the class - it was fun! They had a good turn out for both classes - about 40 people in my earlier class, and I overheard Jen say there were about 40-45 in the second class. Class started with a brief history of the AR by Jen and some quick legal do's and don'ts. Then Anthony took over with firearms safety, basic AR operation, stance, etc. He then fielded a handful of class questions. Overall, he did a nice job with the whole thing, with a good mixture of informative and humorous to keep everyone engaged. I never felt bored, even tho I already knew about everything that was being discussed. Then, Anthony had everyone come up one at a time to hold the AR and learn the correct stance. After that, the first 2 groups (about 16 people I think) headed over to the range. 9 ports were being used for the class, with each port having an RSO to instruct the students. I waited about 10 minutes for my turn. The RSO (didn't catch his name) went over a proper sight picture and how to center the front post with the rear ring. He then explained how to use the various rifle controls and how to load the mags. I was the instructed to load the mags, which i did. Inserted mag - dropped bolt - got sight picture - went from safe to fire, and off I went. Overall, I did ok - was a little low and to the left, but kept all the shots in about a 3-4" group. Only downside for me was that the particular port I was at was only doing 2 5 round mags, instead of 2 10 round mags like some other ports. But, hey, it was free so I can't complain too much After that was done, headed back up to the classroom for the raffle - walked away with a cool little Smith and Wesson knife. That's pretty much it.. I have to admit, I was surprised by some of the people who showed up. Not to sound like a chauvinist pig, but there were more woman that I expected.. but that wasn't even the part that surprised me the most - it was the fact that a few of the women were there by themselves! Good for them! And I was also surprised by how many people said they had never fired a firearm before. But everyone walked out of the range with a big smile on their face Anyway, to summarize, I had a good time and it seemed like everyone else did as well Not sure if any NJGF members were in my early class - i believe they were all scheduled for the later class. Thanks Anthony and BulletHole!
  16. In the classroom now.. Just about to get started.. Watching a lovely 80s video about women learning about guns while we're waiting lol
  17. Late to the party as usual - tried to sign up last night, but the 5:30 class was full. But, it looks like I was able to get into the 3:45 class (guess they added a second one).
  18. Interesting - my head is spinning.. but still interesting. Think I'll just wait for the famous PK90 PMAGs to resurface
  19. Thanks for the clarification! I'm new to the whole AR thing, and have yet to take apart a mag to examine the internals, but, if you do fold them back and they snap off, wouldn't that just allow the follower to move freely in the mag body, and then basically negate the "permanent" aspect of lancing? Or am I over thinking this?
  20. Yeah - I've read most of those too.. I just can't figure out what "lanced" means and how that makes it permanent. Although at this point, those CProd mags are like the great unicorns... who knows if we'll ever really see one
  21. Has anyone figured out exactly what "lanced" means? and just how permanent of a modification that is?
  22. I have a couple of the 15 rnd PRI mags - they're nice.. a bit heavy.. springs are REALLY tight in mine and getting that 15th round is a bit of a stuggle. Worth 40 bux? Not really... but options are limited. Also have a couple of the 15rnd Pmags that Tip's Hardware sells. I've read some posts that there is some inconsistency in how many rounds they hold, but I must've gotten lucky, cuz both of mine hold exactly 15. Also cost 40 bux tho. $160 for 4 mags not including shipping costs and tax... bleh. Just gonna have to deal with 10 rounders, cuz it's not worth all that extra money for 5 more rounds
  23. Thanks Chad! Nice blasters btw I like the simplicity of the lights set up that way.. may have to try that when I eventually pick up a shottie
  24. My ideal range is a pipe dream I think... def want something safe with not too many silly rules and not very crowded... less than 30 minutes away would be great! I'm not real big on monthly meetings, but don't mind helping out with a clean up/maintenance a couple times a year. But what I'd really like is something outdoors that's big enough to allow me to draw from a holster and move around a bit. Picking up a gun from a table and standing in a little 4 foot lane to shoot at a target that is directly in front of me, while being pelted with empty cases from the guy shooting 5 feet to my left can be a little annoying at times  But I've probably been watching too many Magpul Dynamics videos and need a reality check
