  1. Woohoo! It's arrived at my FFL. Unfortunately I'm out of town this week....ugh.
  2. Agreed. I would hold off on buying anything until you find out what you NEED. It's very tempting to buy all sorts of doodads for your new rifle, but in my humble opinion, in the short term, what you need most is ammo, mags, and trigger time. Learn to shoot iron sights accurately. Until they are completely second nature. 200 yards is easy (even for my eyes) with irons. Remember, the USMC teaches recruits to accurately engage man sized targets out to 500 yards. Once you have mastered irons, then choose an optic based upon your needs and intended useage. Not everyone NEEDS an ACOG or a high power variable scope. Maybe a red dot is a terrier choice for you. My personal philosophy is to ask myself 'why do I need that?' before I buy something for my AR's. What does it help me do? Believe me, it's tempting to buy toys for a new gun (I am currently awaiting delivery of a Colt 901 Modular rifle). I'm going through the same thing right now as far as optic choices. I'll second the above recommendation of training classes, and shooting other people's rifles. Try it out on someone else's rifle if possible, before you spend your money in it. Be sure it's right for you. I'm quite sure between all the AR shooters here, someone will already own what you are considering buying. Ask questions, I'm sure many of them will allow you try out their gear if you ask nicely. Enjoy your new carbine!
  3. I run my carbines out to 400+ easily with an ACOG. The rifle/round is perfectly capable of it....limiting factor for me is my middle aged eyes. I need magnification. 200 should be a walk in the park with a good red dot.
  4. I don't own a Windham, but before anyone can answer your question, what do you plan to do with your new carbine? It's hard to give advice without knowing what your intended use for your rifle.
  5. Hell, the possibility of a 15 round mag ban prodded me to buy a Colt 901 Modular Carbine, and some 15 round Pmags to go with it. Many thanks to Ty at Midwest PX for great mags and great service.
  6. Per chance do you have a detachable carry handle you can mount on the rail? I find it much easier to sight down the plane if the carry handle to visually check if the FSB is canted to one side. If you don't have one, I could lend you one for troubleshooting purposes.
  7. I remember seeing that pic of Gov. Perry shooting that rifle. I think you are correct, it is the CK901. I just bought, but haven't received an LE901. I wonder if the 7.32x39 CK901 upper would be compatible with the LE901. The mag well on the CK looks a little different. Would be interesting if they are compatible.
  8. I found out this morning that the 901 will be at Adco on Monday. My Battle comp is already there, waiting for the rifle to arrive so they can begin work. The wait begins. Looking forward to 'new gun day'!
  9. M4A1 has a heavy barrel profile under the handgaurds.
  10. Believe me, if it were legal to do so in this state, all of my AR's would wear cheap A2 flash suppressors.
  11. Looks like you have a ways to go! Nice start. Who made the .22 conversion kit?
  12. Yes, they are all Colts. I DO have a few uppers from other vendors, PSA, BCM, but I have a particular fondness for Colt. I am a huge believer in the monolithic uppers they make (6940/901 series guns). There are a few pics floating around here, but I'll post a family photo once the 901 arrives.
  13. A minor little monkey wrench in an otherwise good plan regarding the 901.... The dealer I bought the 901 from (Gunbroker auction) called me this morning, he says he cannot (won't) ship to a dealer in NJ, because the gun is not compliant as is. He says he can ship it to a gunsmith outside of NJ, have it made compliant, then the 'smith can ship it to my local ffl as a compliant gun. Not a HUGE deal, but involves an extra transfer. I wound up getting a good price on the gun, so even with the extra transfer, I'm still ok. I made arrangements with Adco to receive the 901, make it complaint, and ship it to my FFL. Maybe an extra couple of days, but I'm certain it will be worth it. Hopefully, Adco will get the crush washer on center this time, so my OCD doesn't flare up.....LOL. (I'm making fun of my own little ODC demons, for those of you who don't understand). I'll keep y'all posted, and of course, a few pics when I have it in my hands.
  14. I'll check that one out, Ty. Thanks! In the short term, I'll use one of my 4x32 ACOGs or possibly a Trijicon SRS to wring it out.
  15. Agreed, performance of the comp is more important to me than how it looks (unless, of course, the bloody crush washer is .5mm off center, THEN there is a freaking crisis!! LOL). I have a lot of experience with the EGW A2 comps. I have them on 3 of my AR's. They control the muzzle well, are relatively quiet compared to many brake/comps out there, and are fairly inexpensive. About $60. I just had a Battle Comp 1.0 installed on one of my Colt 6940's. I only have a few rounds downrange with it, so more testing on my part is required, but it keeps the muzzle very flat. I don't think it is louder than the EGW comps, but I only brought the one rifle to the range that day, and couldn't do a side by side comparison of the two. They are $150. I have used a few others, the Cooley Comp for one, is LOUD!!!! I could feel the concussion through my chest when shooting it, and found it very annoying. Replaced it as soon as possible! I don't know where you are located, but you are welcome to try out the EGW and the Battle Comp on my carbines to get an idea of what they are like.
  16. Ed, I'll keep you posted about the 901 and what I wind up doing to it. First order of business is to obviously get it made compliant. I've got a 7.62 BattleComp on the way for it, but completely undecided what optic to buy. Initially, I may use one of my 5.56mm ACOGs on it just to wring it out, then decide from there what optic will suit my purposes. I bought this rifle with the intention of doing longer range shooting, hog and whitetail hunting, so I'm going to need more than 4x with my damn near 50 year old eyes. Hell, I thought ACOGs were expensive, until I saw the price on some of these FFP, high magnification optics (some are WAY north of $3K)! I may have to sell an organ to buy one! We'll have to hit SJSC and have some fun with it!
  17. Repost of this pic, but EGW A2 comp on the top carbine, and Battlecomp 1.0 on the bottom carbine. https://www.dropbox.com/s/na2skzav0slnj34/Photo%20Jun%2017%2C%2016%2012%2045.jpg
  18. The EGW comp works well in 5.56 (I have it on 3 AR's), but they don't show it threaded for 5/8"x24, only for 1/2"x28.
  19. Ty, I didn't realize that you also did the 7.62 mags. That's all I need to know in that regard. I have a buttload of your 5.56 PMags that are nothing short of outstanding. When it gets to my FFL, I'll give you a ring and order some mags, and also arrange for my ffl to ship the mags that come with it to you for conversion. I'll look at the Bushnell. The rifle will be used for longer range hog/whitetail hunting. Thanks!
  20. LOL, yeah, I didn't quite think of it that way! I guess when you put in perspective like that, $200 is chump change. I have a Battle Comp 1.0 on one of my AR's, but only have a few rounds downrange with it. I like it so far. Was hoping for other suggestions as well. Thanks!
  21. Anyone here own a Colt 901 Modular Carbine? I just bought one on GB, and have a few questions. It will be a week or so before my FFL gets it, then we have to make it compliant. Which brake did you use? Think I might use the BattleComp, but it's bloody pricy! Ammo preferences? Optics? Thought about another ACOG, but am open to variable magnification optics. Magazines? Any info or insight would be greatly appreciated!
