  1. Ray, Tommy, nice to see you guys again. Chris, George, nice to meet you, and thanks to both of you for showing me around your stuff. George made me a convincing argument for the mag release to be on the right side for a righty. When I get to your level of competence I can think about those performance mods. And I am not karate kid.
  2. Hey Ray, are you bringing any of your own 9's?
  3. So if you leave your book at my house, you are allowed to just walk in and take it? I don't think so.
  4. But wouldn't you need one to repo property that is located on private property? IOW, some repo guy can't come onto my property to take an item. If the car is parked on the street then of course that is a different story.
  5. I don't understand... if the truck was in his driveway, I would assume the repo guy was on his property. I do not know the laws, but first of all, who says repo guy even has the lawful right to repossess a vehicle that is on your property without a court order? Isn't that trespassing? And if they had a court order, they should have knocked on the guy's door, told him who they were, and then taken the truck. Second of all, who says he even knew they were repo guys? Maybe he thought they were thieves trying to get near his house and hold him up. I am not saying that this is a probable explanation of what went down, but none of us really has any idea, so let's not go about calling the guy an idiot. Yes, he was taking a risk that they might have had real weapons, but not necessarily a unlawful risk.
  6. I think you might have gone about this the wrong way. I also applied in Clifton for an FPID in June. They actually said to wait 6 months before contacting them. But instead of waiting 74 days and then complaining, I just waited until I knew all my refs were in, and had been fingerprinted. Then I sent a very nice email to the woman who originally gave me the info on applying, just asking to make sure there was nothing on my end holding things up. She was extremely helpful, actually looked up my app, gave me all the info. Turns out one of my refs' forms must have gotten lost, so she said she would look out for it and resend if it didn't arrive soon. If it does come to being a little 'persuasive', I think I will at least have someone there who I have dealt with more than once in a cordial manner, and may be willing to help if she can. Also, I assume you submitted your app to Det. Cusack. Why not just show up one morning at 6:58 AM, and wait for him to get there at 7? He may also blow you off, but at least you will have spoken to someone official involved in the process, which can only help if you do decide to take any real action.
  7. I think they purposely make that question misleading. Unless you have a mental condition, it makes no difference if you currently see a shrink 3 times a week, the answer to that question is, and should be, no.
  8. ...until someone fires a gun -near- the firing range, and they ignore it, but then it was a real crime.
  9. What's that about "justifiable need"? Are you a NJ legislator?
  10. You guys seem to not realize this fact: if at first you get denied, but then appeal to the NJSC, and maybe even SCOTUS, and eventually win (!!), you will not be considered as ever having been denied a CCW permit, as the appeal erases the original decision.
  11. Well... not the range, my basement. And not a *real* gun, my .177 Daisy air pistol. I am waiting on my FID, so I decided to break out my bb gun, which I bought when I was living in NY. Set up a box with some plastic stuff as a backstop and started shooting. I was actually very impressed with the accuracy of the gun from 6 yards (especially from a novice shooter): And I also forgot how powerful it is - the bbs went through both sides of a cardboard moving box and still had enough velocity remaining to ricochet off the wall and hit the ceiling. Best part was when I came upstairs and showed my wife that pic, she was like, "can I try?!" Ahhhhh... now she can begin to understand.
  12. Why does it need to be post-McDonald? Seems to me that anyone who was ever denied a permit in NJ is now eligible to sue. Any takers?
  13. That would work better if they hadn't already told me not to call until 5 months have passed... Side question: do you know if it is even possible to find out from the SP (or FBI for that matter) if they have responded to my PD? Or would I have to rely on my PD telling me when they got the info?
  14. I am leaning towards this, but will probably at least call the detective, just to let him know I am waiting... respectfully. Then depending on what he says, I can go from there.
  15. It's not worth my $$$ to get this done in what will probably end up 1 month earlier (if at all) than I would have with no help. And why would the courts not support the case? It can't be any more clear that their "policy" violates the statue. Plus... I am going to law school next year. (Don't know why that would change anything, but it's cool anyway.)
  16. Here is what I want to do, and would like your thoughts: I applied for my FID, but was informed, both by the paperwork from my city and in person by the detective who processed the app, that it would likely take at least 5 months to complete. After I am fingerprinted, I will contact the state police, and see if I can find out when their part of the background check is completed. Alternatively, I can ask my PD when this is done. I will also make sure my 2 references return their forms immediately. Once these two items are completed, the rest of the process is completely up to my city's PD. At that point, I will call the detective and ask him why it will take any longer than an additional 30 days from day X (when they have the info from SP and refs). If I don't receive a satisfactory response, I will write a letter to the chief of police, asking him why the PD is not following state statute with regards to timelines. I will quote the NJ Supreme Court case regarding the circumstances under which a PD can claim the hold-up was out of their control, but explain that in this case, they have everything they need already, so the ruling does not apply. I may include the point that if I do not get a satisfactory response, I will be asking the NJ Attorney General the same question. The reason I think I may be able to get somewhere with this is because they aren't just some PD pushing me off, saying soon it will be done, or some such thing. They actually told me up front in writing and in person that it will take five times the allowed time. What do you think my chances are of: getting nowhere with anyone I listed above; getting it done quickly; being blacklisted by my PD and screwed for life? Thanks.
  17. Skydiving was the most exhilarating experience I have ever had. That said, I don't know if I would do it again. And no, I was not the least bit scared or hesitant when time came to jump.
  18. I am a definite maybe.. gotta convince the boss.
  19. Yep, spoke to the det. He was pretty chilled, said probably since this wasn't for a carry permit, they would not contact my employer anyway. (Also - spoke to him an hour ago - and am going tomorrow at 7 AM to apply, how's that for quick?)
  20. Well, I got through to the Firearms record keeper, and got the info sheet. The last line is not very encouraging: "UNFORTUNATELY, INITIAL APPLICATIONS TAKE A LONG PERIOD OF TIME FOR PROCESSING. PLEASE DO NOT CALL FOR STATUS UPDATES UNLESS MORE THAN 5 MONTHS TIME HAS ELAPSED." But I can still hope for the best.
  21. I think I am stuck going down to the station before getting any info. I have been calling the firearms clerk every day since Tuesday, left 2 messages, etc. They say she is in, but apparently she never picks up her phone.
  22. I am going to ask, but got good info from someone else in my city that they did not contact his employer (or other references for that matter). Only caveat is that he works for the state...
  23. You can say that all you want, but here in NJ, in many places, it is nothing at all like getting your driver's license. Just being realistic with the current SOA.
  24. Related question: would this also be a good time to ask if they plan on contacting my employer regarding the application? Or - does anyone know if Clifton usually does this?
