2 hours to clean? Well, that's understandable since you're new to the AR. But once you do it a few times, it shouldn't take you nearly that long. You're not doing "white glove inspection" clean, are you? It's not necessary for an AR. All you really need to do is run a couple patches down the barrel, and strip down and soak the BCG for a little while. Slap it back together and keep it wet, and you're good to go. And if you don't believe me about it not needing to be spotless, here's and article for you. http://mscg.yuku.com/topic/5658
  2. Thanks! With one crazy barrel nut wrench, provided with the upper. If you have any problems with your rifle, you could club someone with the wrench.
  3. Any reason you want an MT6400 rather than one of their other offerings? Like an LE6920 or 6720?
  4. You can have the stock pinned by an FFL in state or send it to a shop outside if you wish. I personally like ADCO Firearms. They do very good work at reasonable prices. http://adcofirearms.com/shopservices/ $35 to pin stock $25 to remove bayonet lug You'll need to get a muzzle brake and have that pinned and welded. That'll cost you $30 + the cost of the brake. Adco does add extra for certain models of brakes. I have a Battle Comp 1.0 and 1.5. They are a bit expensive though $130-150. There are lots of others out there that don't cost as much. Troys are good and cheap. Also PWS, Rainier Arms, and Spikes Dynacomp to name few. You could also pin a thread protector and skip the muzzle brake. Only $15 for the thread protector. The Front Sight Base can come off, but it's the best gas block out there. You can shave it down, but that's a permanent solution. If you get a scope, you can leave the front sight base. You won't notice it in your sight picture anyways. The 6720 is the lighter one of the two. The barrel is a lighter profile. Other than that, everything else is the same.
  5. If it's the ad that I just saw, it's $1375 for a case of 100. That's $13.75 per magazine. It's not that big a savings. Considering you can order the same ones from MidwestPX for $14.20 each, without buying 100 magazines.

Absolutely false. If you paying over $2000 for a high quality, base configuration AR, you're over paying by a lot. You can get a Colt (many consider this the gold standard) for around $1000. In case you want to know where.... http://clydearmory.com/firearms/rifles/colt.html http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&category=COLT http://dsgarms.com/Category/3_1/Rifles.aspx
  7. Here's a lightweight 6720 http://www.gandrtact...action&key=6720 or http://dsgarms.com/ProductInfo/COAR6720.aspx You'll need some compliance work done though.
  8. No prob. =) Bored engineer at work = huge spreadsheet with all sorts of gun parts... hahah.
  9. Magpul makes quality stuff. On both my ARs, they have Magpul pistol grips and stocks. I have MOE+ grip on one with an MOE stock. The other is wearing a MIAD grip with a CTR stock. I'm probably 15 minutes from Morristown.
  10. I mean if you check it every so often, I think you'll be fine. As with everything else, proper maintenance is key.
  11. That's why I said "No big deal if you're just punching paper"
  12. Nope, nothing wrong with it. If you like Magpul furniture, it's the way to go. Good price too. But you have to remember, that $1163 is the cash discounted price. If you plan on paying with credit, it'll up the price to $1199? DSG Arms has it for slightly less. http://dsgarms.com/P...E6920MP-DE.aspx Only $5 less, since they charge $15 for ground shipping.
  13. I didn't mean to put fear in you for building. You can build a great rifle for much less. But since you asked about Vlad's build, I thought I'd give you the info. The AR15 lower is one of the more expensive lowers you can buy. You can get a good one for much less. Probably $100. And there's a bunch of other places you could shave off some cost too. I think some of the Spike's hate comes from their price gouging during the last election buying frenzy. As far as mil-spec, they are good rifles. And if you're referring to m4carbine, they are mostly made up of professional, mil or LE and they find the frilly stuff Spike's does distasteful. Color fill, crazy logos... etc. They do nothing for a fighting rifle. Personally, for a first AR, I think keeping it simple is good. And getting a complete one built by a reputable manufacturer, you will know it's put together properly. Adding stuff on later is fine, but keeping it simple at first will teach you what you like and don't like, and ultimately save you money.
  14. Not my personal experience. But there's a thread on m4c. http://m4carbine.net...light=accuwedge ETA: It is rubber isn't it? Doesn't rubber dry out at some point? Also, doesn't oil soften up rubber? Once it dries and cracks it'll fall apart into your FCG.
  15. The accuwedge can break apart and crap up your FCG. No big deal if you're just punching paper, but if you needed your AR for something, you'd be screwed.
  16. Mega Arms Monolithic Modular Upper - Rifle length Centurion Arms CHF 14.5" barrel Vltor Lo-pro gas block Battle Comp 1.5 (to be pinned by ADCO) LMT M16 BCG BCM CH Mega Billet Lower GTR-3H Ambi DD LPK Geissele SD-C BAD Ambi Safety Norgon Ambi Mag Release Magpul MIAD Magpul CTR
  17. Since I've looked into many of these parts already, I can give you a quick breakdown of the cost. AR15.com Lower ($275) Magpul MOE + grip ($15.50) Spike’s ST-T2 Buffer ($33) Magpul CTR Stock ($60) Magpul Pmag ($22) Magpul MOE Handguard ($27) Magpul Rail Section ($5) Larue index clips ($30) Troy Rear DOA BUIS ($100) Aimpoint PRO ($375) Haley Thorntail G2 Mount ($70) Surefire G2 light ($78) Magpul ASAP ($22) Magpul MS3 ($42) Spikes Tactical Upper 1:7 Twist 5.56 Mid-Length Gas System 14.5in Barrel ($570 price with dynacomp) Spikes Tactical Dyna Comp Muzzle Brake (Permanently Attached) You'll also need a lower parts kit. ($70-80) A receiver extension(buffer tube) ($35) Buffer spring ($5) Castle nut ($6) So when all said and done, it'll run you about $1850. And that doesn't include the tools to put the lower together. You'll need a mag block and a torque wrench to get the correct spec on tightening the castle nut. Some will just torque until it's tight, and that's probably fine. But if you want it done correctly it should be tightened to 40 ft-lbs. And that front pivot pin is a biotch to install if you don't have a clevis pin. I bought this kit from riflegear http://www.riflegear.com/p-806-riflegear-lower-receiver-builders-kit.aspx
  18. I just got this built. The FFL I transferred this from just wrote MULTI on the paperwork.
  19. Sounds like you want a Colt. But you don't have to pay that much. You can get a 6920 for $995 here. http://dsgarms.com/P...nfo/CO6920.aspx Unless you want Magpul furniture, in which case it'd be $1055 here. http://dsgarms.com/P...LE6920MP-B.aspx You could either have it delivered to one of the vendors on this site and they could do compliance work for you. Pin/weld muzzle brake, pin stock. Or you could send it directly to ADCO. I'd run you about $95 for the work. And then he'd ship it to your FFL. http://www.adcofirea...hop_.cfm?code=5 Your transfer fee would run you about $40. Lincoln Park True Value Hardware does it for $40 (including NICS) and it's right down the street from me. Total comes out to $1130 plus whatever shipping comes out to be. ETA: Hmm... looks like they're out of stock on both. If you don't mind the lightweight version 6720, $975 http://dsgarms.com/ProductInfo/COAR6720.aspx
  20. Those are some nice specs. I've posted this chart a couple times. It's actually surprising that the MOE Handguards aren't the lightest. https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0Ajl2UPK0UHPscHdzd2hlZ2hOUXNGblVaTWtaTkYyRFE&gid=0 Check out the Midwest Industries SS-Series Gen 2, 12". It's even lighter and it's sweet looking with just the top rail. Oh, btw... Grant is top notch.
  21. Another vote for the larue index clips. They come with 60 regular clips and 12 to hold tapeswitch wires along the rail's edge.
  22. Thread's a bit old, but I have some info I read on another site. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_118/572547_LW15_review___another_polymer_lower_bites_the_dust____.html
  23. With a budget of $1500, you can't go wrong with any of the manufacturer's you listed. BCM, DD and Colt are all top tier. One note however, Colt only makes ARs with Carbine Length Gas Systems, not Mid-Length. But with everything else you want, I think that is your best bet. Get the Colt. I have a DDM4V5, I love it. But if you don't want rails, no reason to go DD. For your first AR many people will tell you to keep it simple, which is good advice. With that said, here are a couple places you might want to check out. Stock Colt 6920. You'll need to send it somewhere to make it NJ compliant though. http://www.gandrtact...action&key=6920 Colt with Magpul furniture http://www.gandrtact...tion&key=6920MP http://dsgarms.com/P...LE6920MP-B.aspx Colt with FDE Mapul furniture if that's your flavor http://dsgarms.com/P...E6920MP-DE.aspx Steve at ADCO Firearms does really nice work to make your AR NJ compliant. http://www.adcofirea...m/shopservices/ I got my DD at Rainier Arms. They did the stock pinning and muzzel break pinning/welding for me. They will price match (beat by $5) with any vendor that has the same model of DD in stock (must be in stock at competing vendor). http://www.rainierar...s_danieldefense My advice... if it's in stock, jump on it. As you can tell, lots of people in the market now with the coming election. If you'd prefer to go through one of the sponsor's here that'd be fine too, but know your prices. Don't pay more if you don't have to. And yes, don't forget to set aside some money for some quality glass. Sometimes this will exceed the money you've put on your rifle. I have both and Aimpoint T1 and an ACOG TA33G-H. Both are awesome. But if it's for SD/HD, no need for magnification.
  24. If I had to pick between the ARM and the VLTOR, it'd be VLTOR no contest. But like Vlad said... there's a lot better options out there. Centurion, Daniel Defense, Troy, Midwest Industries... just to name a few. Here's a nice chart for your reference, if weight is a concern. https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pwswheghNQsFnUZMkZNF2DQ&output=html
  25. I would also follow lunker's advice. There's a lot of good information on m4c. For that kind of money, you should be able to get a top tier upper. You could check out Bravo Company as Dan suggested. Just gotta remember, their uppers don't come with a BCG or CH. Set aside another $130-$160 for the BCG and $40 if you like the BCM Gunfighter CH's. http://www.bravocomp...-Group-s/27.htm Rainier Arms has a couple of Daniel Defense uppers in stock. Not too much more than what you're looking at. And they come with BCG and CH. http://www.rainierar...s_danieldefense
