  1. I can already hear the tone of the cops voice when stopped for any traffic violation and see a stop for a burnt out tail-light turning into a 60 minute pain in the ass when they feel compelled to search the car just in case.... In 20 years a gun owner in NJ will need their lawyer on speed-dial. Another scary thing -- knowing how well NJ handles all things motor vehicle... can you imagine how fun it'll be when intertwined with FID program????
  2. I've heard they're better hunted at night... correct? How do you pick them up at 50 yards in the dark -- sound? Red light? Are they tough buggers or do they pretty much go down easy if it hit well?
  3. Thanks. I've been thinking about hunting them at night, using an electronic call. I was aware the e callers were allowed, just not the remote type that you place out 50 yards or so. The regs call for them to be on with you at your stand or blind. It would be great if NJ eventually allows rifles. Maybe someone will chime in who's spent some time specifically hunting these dogs. Thanks again. / BG
  4. ah... the world we live in today... I feel for these guys. They need the help to move on... This may not bring anything "solution-wise" to the topic, (certainly doesn't actually) but I kind of think that in order to be healthy and thrive as a person I'd take the chance to lose the gun right in order to be whole and healthy in all other aspects in life. The gun hobby is just one aspect of life and I know I'd rather give that up then risk losing other more important aspects whether that be relationships, occupation or additional leisure pursuits. I guess I'm saying if I had a failing heart and was a passionate long distance runner.... I''d give up running and take the heart transplant.
  5. Just passing this along in case you all haven't seen it elsewhere... the very end of the video makes me laugh every time... http://www.facebook.com/video/embed?video_id=10151756543367474%22%20width=%22224%22%20height=%22400%22%20frameborder=%220%22
  6. Anyone here consider yourself an expert at hunting them in New Jersey? (Not anywhere else, please) Looking for some schooling on how to start learning to hunt these puppies. The biggest obstacle I see at the moment is the regulations that say no "remote" electronic calls and no center fire rifles. How close do they need to be for a fast efficient shotgun kill? What's been your best technique in getting them to come into you close? What type of cover? How far have they gone after being shoot with a shotgun? How many have you actually shot? (Not looking for "I heard" or "I know a guy who") I may be wrong (often am), but it seems to me open fields would be more difficult with a shotgun and getting them close then the woods would be, but don't really know. I hate shooting at anything with a shotgun over 50 yards. ('cept maybe a deer with a sabot out of a rifled barrel) TIA
  7. Like I said... you must have been born and raised in Jersey 'cause you're all worked up about a picture... most likely taken at the end of the shoot while a bunch a guys are hanging out relaxing as they are cleaning up... or not. But you know what they say about assuming... We all know about alcohol and firearms... pretty much just the choir in here if I am not mistaken...
  8. Sounds like you grew up in NJ.... many from other parts usually let the preacher preach.
  9. We MUST know --- Is the chipmunk still alive!
  10. That meal looks FANTASTIC! There is nothing like eating out in the field. Sounds like a great time. It's on the list.
  11. Certainly his "target" list, someday to be victims list. I don't see this kind of thing getting better, I really don't. Sadly it's just as I feel about this country. I know it's pessimistic, but how many times can we rally the troops? Our own President has seen fit to announce his nuke strategy to Germans and not our own congress or populous.
  12. Stories like this just reinforce we're not coming back .... just too many lying A$$holes. http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/351511/bloombergs-mayor-group-apologizes-including-boston-bomber-gun-victims-list-andrew
  13. Do you have the New York Senate Bill number or a source for additional information? Nothing listed here: http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/ Maybe just another "fact" from the "Worldwide Inter Web Net".
  14. Awesome topic! My issue is that I LOVE my burgers almost uncooked so finding a place I can place complete trust in always a crap shoot. I hate any meat cooked medium or beyond, but crave stone cold rare. One place I've gotten very, very rare hamburgers without getting sick was The Ark in Point Pleasant. Every now and then they've allowed the grill to go beyond it's recommended cleaning time frame, but this usually is rectified in a week's time. (By that I mean their burgers have on occasion had a little burnt taste to the outer layer.) I wish there was a place near me that served genuine true "prime" meat for their hamburgers. No matter what they SAY, it's not done, which I understand as who wants to pay $18 to $20 or more for a hamburger. Also, does anyone here buy and ground their own? Suggestions on what cuts to mix for that perfect combo? Maybe a little sirloin with some untrimmed brisket? Tagged this topic for suggestions by you guys for Northwest NJ.
  15. Okay then... let's hear the story.
  16. While I agree with all the "step on it's head/Whack with shovel", this IS a gun forum -- pull out your .22 and pop it! Jeez... I shoot the crap out of them all the time.
  17. I think there is another thread on them regarding quality. They are a fine, even great, gun cabinet, but I would never trust true valuables in one unless you are 100% certain the professional bad guys have less then 5 minutes. They are perfect to keep the kids out of the guns or car keys, etc...
  18. .500 Jeffery w/540 gr Norma solid. Sucks.
  19. aw man... this is worthless without pictures....
  20. Except in one aspect... try painting "Commando Fort" on a playground set today. Thanks for sharing that video -- it was great watching.
  21. ... awesome. Now that is hunting.
  22. +1000. Are you a hunter or a shooter? The only exception to this would be if you really needed to eat and the shot was necessary, but this is highly unlikely here as we're talking about the hobby. By FAR, my most memorable moments in the field have been when I've gotten close, really close. That's when I've felt like I worked for something and earned it. The trophy is just the reminder of the stalk. PS: Want to clarify -- I am not referring to stuff like prairie dog hunting which indeed is a long range endeavor and mainly an exercise in removing pests.
