From the way I read it they can open carry an unloaded firearm. But they look to be changing that law to stop that too.

I am not going to rehash everything that has been said by the others. I try to be nice to every cop that I encounter, usually its because I have done something wrong already(Speeding, running red light etc.). But in this instance the OC'er had done nothing wrong, If the officer had approached him and been calmer and a bit more polite with his hand on his weapon instead of having it drawn I feel this would have turned out differently. Also you state "but I disagree with carrying a weapon as a civilian". So are you saying that only the government should have weapons in public? I believe our founding fathers wrote the 2A for just this reason. Police are supposed to uphold the law not their idea of the law.

You can use .223 in a rifle designed for 5.56. But not the other way around, a 5.56 cartridge creates more pressure in the chamber than .223. You are good to go with either round.

I am currently looking at scopes for a med-long range AR also. I have my eye on the Nikon M-223 2-8x32 BDC600 and until May 31st they are running a promo that includes the mounts for free.

I am in the process of a build right now just like you. I had originally planned, like you, to keep it about $800 or so. But after pricing everything out I realized that it was unrealistic and now am going to be spending almost twice that. I will give one piece of advice which was given to me by Vlad, if you are taking the time to pick each individual piece, do it right the first time. If you want a quad rail, don't buy something now just to get it built, then replace it later with what you really want. Take the extra time to save up the money and get what you really want. Also as someone mentioned take a look at the Yankee Hill Diamond FF Quad rail. I was looking at the DD too but am going with the YH after reading a bunch of reviews from owners. Also don't forget Mags they will run about $25 a pice and figure that you will need 2 or 3.

Yup, pretty much. Most shops in PA that are close to the NJ border will have the COE buts its a good idea to take a copy with you.

I have been thinking about this same thing after watching the Katrina videos of them confiscating legal firearms. If there was some natural disaster and police/National Guard came around to confiscate my weapons, I wouldn't allow them in my home. And if they tried to forcibly enter, there would be problems, if they won't honor our rights we need to fight for them.

I appreciate the suggestion, but as Vlad reminded me I am building this piece by piece so I might as well do it and not skimp. But the reason I wanted to go with the DD BCG is because I have a DD Lower Parts Kit so I figured I would keep the internals DD. Not that it matters, but it's a mental thing for me to match it up. But I will keep the LMT in mind if the DD doesn't come back in stock.

Everything I have read says that it is stiffer than a standard receiver, which in turn should in theory make it more accurate. Not that I am good enough to notice though. Plus I like to do things that are different than the norm, and it does look cool.
