Yes. The transaction is good for 30 days for that transaction for that ATF 4473.

If you're talking about a transfer on the 1st and then a second transfer initiated on the 20th (well within the 30 day period) and asking if NICS will hold the transfer until the 31st, then the answer is no. The transfer would be denied within 3 days of the 20th transaction. The NICS also enforces state statute as well as federal. The decision to delay a transaction if a purchaser was a few days off was based upon a common sense decision that works within Brady. Everyone wins.

The NJSP NICS Unit has a day counter built into the firearms database. A few people were denied due to February having 28 days. These were honest mistakes and probably due in part to a misunderstanding of the statute. As a result of this the NICS will now delay a transaction that is initiated before the 30 day has elapsed. As was stated previously, NICS has 3 "business days" to render a decision on a transaction. Sunday and Holidays are not business days, to clarify. The 30 day rule counts calender days so it would include business days. The 30 days begins on the day your previous transaction was approved by NICS, not the day it was initiated. Just to be safe we should all count our days prior to initiating a subsequent transaction. The folks at NICS and the Firearms Unit are good people and not interested in criminalizing honest people, they're trying to enforce a piece of legislation that was forced on them by the NJ Legislature.

You should not have to be re-fingerprinted by Marlboro Twp. The Hightstown Barracks has been consolidated into the Hamilton Twp. Barracks since you were originally issued. As was stated, your prints are on file and Marlboro has the ability to checks your criminal history status from the number that appears on you FID card. The check is $18 and takes a week or so thru NJSP at Division. The Hamilton barracks should be able to forward copies of your firearms information to the Marlboro PD for their edification. Not sure if starting over is a Marlboro issue but it's certainly not a state requirement. I believe there is a fee for a "change of address" processing, $5?

Harry I agree with you. The only caveat I ever added was the fingerprint for positive ID as it applied to a criminal history check portion of NICS. I certainly don't want to be painted as anti 2A. I own firearms, I've taught my family how to use them and the responsibility that goes with it. Both of my children were taught to respect firearms at an early age because I had guns in my home. I agree the present system s*cks, I don't like waiting for a permit anymore than anyone else. My issue is what differentiates a law abiding citizen from a non-law abiding citizen. John

I absolutely agree with the second amendment. My simple question was, if you could change the law or process, what would your changes be. It was suggested that we do away with all laws pertaining to possession, purchase, carrying, or transportation of all firearms, ammo, and accessories. So I'd imagine that mean everyone get a firearm.

I imagine it comes down to how you were trained, taking into account one was. I've seen the full cycle from FBI to bladed and back to FBI. As a righty if I was moving to my right I'd be square and moving to my left bladed. I'd say whatever is comfortable...but then again when the SHTF, who knows. Good points sir.
