  1. IMHO the biggest advantage of kydex for competition is not in the draw, its in the re-holster. The kydex holsters have a nice rigid opening that allows you to re-holster with one hand. I have seen way too many shooters get DQed for crossing themselves while squeezing a leather holster open for re-holstering. When it comes to the draw it is more important how rigid the belt is and how securely your holster is attached to it than the material of the holster.
  2. I can't really see an advantage either way. Do what you think works better for you.
  3. Everyone knows that you should not shoot lead through polygonal barrels. But it seems that there is always someone who knows better. DON'T DO IT. There is no safe way to do it. The amount of leading depends on both the composition of the lead used in the casting and the gunpowder used. The composition of the alloy used in casting is not guaranteed by the manufacturer. Even if they are extremely precise with their additives there is a chance that they make a mistake. You can end up with bullets of different hardness coming out of the same box. Or a re-loader (who could be you) switched from one gunpowder to a hotter one (do you pay attention to how hot your powder burns when you select it for use?). And all of the sudden the amount of leading that was building up after 100 rounds is now building up after only 75 or 50 or who knows how few. An aftermarket Glock barrel from LWD is about $100. If you must shoot lead (which IMHO is a bad idea in any barrel or firearm) spend $100 and shoot to your heart's content.
  4. My advice to you and to anyone starting up is not to think about speed. Safety should be the first concern. Until you got things like finger off the trigger when moving and reloading and watching 180 ingrained to the point of being automatic - do not worry about speed. After that....well I would still not worry about speed. For me personally trying to go fast generally leads to a disaster. I try to relax and just go at whatever speed comes naturally. But that's my opinion. I am not even an A shooter.
  5. I do it in google sketch-up. It helps to model the stage better and to eliminate some of the potential problems like shoot-throughs.
  6. If I designed it to be shot the way it was in the match I could have done it with one less wall. Knowing that I would not be there, I provided views of how targets should have been visible to assist the builders. Apparently my efforts were not appreciated.
  7. Stage 7 The far leftmost target should have only been visible around the left of the front wall like so: The left target behind the far right wall should have only been visible like so: The remainder of the targets along the rear berm should have required three positions along the front edge of the free fire zone to engage - left corner, middle, right corner.
  8. I see my stage was not set up quite right. Oh well. If you want something done right ...
  9. And what reason is that? Because it is clearly not permanent. It is not a question of whether you can remove it or not, but rather whether you can save the break in the process. The evil threads at the front of the barrel will become uncovered regardless.
  10. And OC does not know LEO or his intentions. Carrying a firearm does not constitute a suspicious activity. There is absolutely no need for LEO to get involved or "take charge". How is this situation any different from racial profiling? No crime is being committed but the person "looks dangerous" or "does not look right to me". Its BS. The first cop on the scene is wrong. He is a foul mouthed a-hole that is not qualified to do the job that he is doing - neither temperamentally nor academically.
  11. If you are too chickenshit to politely question someone with a holstered gun walking along the street you have two choices. 1. Don't question him. After all it is a free country, isn't it? 2. Pursue a career as a mortgage broker or some other pursuit where your general lack of manhood will not result in civil liberties of others being trampled on.
  12. Unaemed former Marine shot and killed by an off duty cop in a night club Police kill unarmed Sean Bell and wound several of his unarmed friends Police shoot and kill unarmed Amadou Diallo Transit cop shoots and kills and unarmed man laying handcuffed at his feet. Police officer shoots and kills an unarmed drunk driver Unarmed autistic man killed by LAPD And many many other unarmed people all killed by a police officer [sarrcasm] Following your logic any time I see a police officer I should start shooting first as self defense. After all look at all these people who made the mistake of not having a gun and not shooting at police first. [/sarcasm] When I pay someone to do something I expect them to be professional and polite. It is clear that these officers were neither.
  13. The only issue I have with the OC guy is non-compliance. In this situation you are not doing anything illegal, you first comply and then sort it out. Other than that I am entirely on his side.
  14. If asked by a woman I would reply - "Why do you have so many shoes?". If asked by a man - "Why do you have so many golf clubs?"
  15. I used to buy things at Dicks, but it just got too inconvenient. I do not keep my FID on me. It is always in my range bag. I used to stop at Dicks when passing by. Now I have to plan the trip and make sure my FID is with me. I am simply not that well organized.
  16. In East Brunswick they first send a form for your references to fill out and mail back. Then they call back and ask them to verify their answers.
  17. I think Mike Digennaro was putting something very similar in concept together. Forgot the details though.
  18. Why wouldn't you shoot single stack proper since they are trying to ramp up the 1911 participation. My own participation is in question. I will be putting up a stage but I may not get to shoot at all or may only shoot a stage or two.
  19. How many rounds do you get out of it per hour on regular basis?
  20. If it worked well Hornady and Dillon would both be out of business. One friend of mine bought one and ended up throwing it in the garbage after a period of frustration. Another friend of mine swore by his. The thing is the second guy is a skilled craftsman and could probably build one from ground up if he was so inclined. My father used to say - "I am not wealthy enough to afford cheap things." For pistol caliber only progressive press you can not beat Dillon Square Deal B. $380 gets you into reloading a caliber of your choice. Caliber changes are about $100 a pop. For a lot more flexibility in types of cartridges you can load and eventually faster production, you can get a Hornady Lock-N-Load for the same $380 or so. But you have to add the cost of dies to that. Neither of these would include the case feeder. But Lee case feeder can be barely called that. with the time that you spend loading cases into those tubes, you will save very little time as compared with feeding cases into the shell plate by hand. And once you include the primer system stoppages you will probably get better production out of either Dillon or Hornady without a case feeder than from Lee with a "case feeder". For the Hornady you can add a real case feeder in the future for another $300. And you will have a nice quality setup. Yes, either Dillon SDB or Hornady L-N-L cost more than twice what Lee costs. But IMHO if you are serious about reloading, you will not tolerate Lee for too long. So your option is to spend $160 now and $380 later or just spend $380 now. End of the day a progressive reloader is about reducing the time and increasing the produciton. So you should get one that really does that. Otherwise get either a single stage or a turret.
  21. I agree. I do not put anything on my resume I can not back up. And I expect the same from any candidate I interview.
  22. This reminds me of a guy I interviewed for a position back around 2000. The guy had a pretty impressive resume. However his actual interview was pretty abysmal. At best he had some rudimentary knowledge about some of the things he claimed on the resume. By that point I am somewhat annoyed, but not overly so. Keep in mind that this is pretty much the peak of the internet boom and anyone who can even spell "computer" with no more than one mistake stands a pretty good chance to land a high paying job. So it is not unusual to run into candidates like this. And as usual, to be polite and not end the interview with something like - "You suck and just wasted 30 minutes of my life that I will never get back" - I run through some standard questions - "Why are you looking to move from your current position?" The guy goes "I feel that I deserve higher compensation due to my level of experience and knowledge." Mind you this guy has just failed to answer just about every single question I asked him....even with some follow-up hints towards the correct answers. So I am a bit more annoyed now. But I run through the rest of the BS questions and end with - "Do you have any questions for me?" The guy goes - "What hours do you guys work? Because in my current position I sometimes have to come in early or stay late and I am really looking for something with more standard hours." Oh by the way the guy is applying for a job at a startup. At this point my work day is something like - come in at 9am; Work till 9-10pm. Go home, eat dinner. Get on a computer by about 12:00 and work till 2:00-3:00am. Rinse, repeat every day. Granted I was a nut job. But nobody worked less than 10 hour days. So I look at the guy and my usual politeness just melts away and I tell him something along these lines - "I have interviewed a lot of people and by far you are the most deluded about your skills or about what it takes to succeed in this business. You know less than a college grad with a CS degree. You should kiss your current employer's feet for actually paying you as I can not imagine anyone doing so. Stop whining, stay at your current job and try to learn something that will make you employable. Now let me show you out." The guy's jaw dropped. He was literally stunned as I walked him out of there. Was this professional behavior on my part? Absolutely not. I have interviewed literally hundreds of people in my career and I have never run into any other candidate to have such an effect on me.

Can you please explain the physics by which you achieve the same velocity with the same wight of the bullet and produce less recoil.
