  1. I apologize if this is a legit question, but that last part reeks of trolling... If you're really worried about HD, why buy a gun? Buy one of these. P.S. the police ruled self defense - no charges.
  2. +1 for the Dragunov SVD... it just has "that look." But for the record, if I did have one, it would have to be worn out and scratched up.
  3. I have two 20 rnd. boxes, Norma 7.7 Jap 180 gr. semi-point sitting in my closet. Really nice stuff. I'll let it go for less than retail - If anyone is interested, PM me.
  4. The Boy Scouts kicked out a bunch of gays in the 90s, and in 2000, the Supreme Court upheld their right to do so. Private, non-profit organizations to which membership is elective can legally block membership based on all kinds criteria. For example, the Emerald Society could kick you out if you're not Irish, or the NAACP can kick you out if you're not black. Most groups (like both of those mentioned) choose not to because its bad publicity. Besides, this is hilarious. Imagine trial: "Your honor, that man is tsooooo kicked off the team... he plays for the other side."
  5. I do know the laws governing the behavior of corporations are very, very, very different than the laws "governing" the behavior of ordinary citizens. Past that, I'm not a lawyer. How big is your company - 5 employees or 5,000 employees? Do you have a legal department, or did you just Google "NJ gun laws" like I did when I moved here? This is interesting and I'd like to know like to know how it works out.
  6. Danno, check your inbox re: 7.7 Japanese
  7. I agree with you 100% about Affirmative Action – I don’t want to see the producers include a bunch of unqualified anybodys just to meet a quota. However, my thought is that Top Shot just a reality TV show, not Camp Perry, and I feel like the people on these shows are chosen kind of based on skill but mostly on who producers think will make entertaining television. I think there are enough qualified military vets / LEOs out there to include more than only 2 per season. On the other hand, so many of those guys turned into whiny gossiping divas by the end of S2, maybe the testosterone/estrogen balance is spot on…
  8. Second to everyone who said, “Like the concept, hate the drama.” Still, agreed it's a small price to pay for a mainstream show that focuses on shooting as a sport and competition. Law & Order, CSI, etc. only present the bad/evil/tragic side of guns in society, not how 99% of responsible owners behave. FWIW, I’d like to see more women in the cast. I think the worst thing about Top Shot is that it unintentionally reinforces the idea that shooting is for men only (or so says my wife). Oh, while I’m at it – anyone else notice that in the promos for S2, they posed Athena with an AK? Way to make the Southeast Asian lady hold a commie weapon...
  9. And here I've been shooting .22 shorts all these years because of the massive recoil from the LR round... finally, the answer to my prayers.
  10. Researching .22 options out there; stumbled across this. Sorry if anybody else has pointed it out before on these boards, but… is that brake for real? http://www.mossberg.com/products/default.asp?ID=9&section=products From Mossberg: “ALL-PURPOSE 37151 .22 LR Adjustable Rifle Sights, 10 ROUND MAG 11 21" + MUZZLEBRAKE.” On the specifications page, it’s the last one listed. Here’s a straight link to the photo on the Mossberg site: http://www.mossberg.com/images/Mossberg_Guns/930/NEW/37151.jpg Not trying to make fun of it if there's some kind of reason I don't know about but... made me smile.
  11. It's pretty sweet - not a show car, but certainly fun to drive. I did the work with my dad (fun project) about ten years ago. It's a 327 with 345HP and 330-ish torqure. Also, mine is missing all the chrome pieces; it was set up as a drag car but sat in a garage for 30+ years - was inherited from an uncle who died in a motorcycle accident a long time ago. And, no, I did not bring it to Jersey City with me, as I'd like to not have it stlolen inside ten minutes. It's in MD. That said, I don't plan on selling it any time soon. hd2000fxdl - "Good info, I am a C3 guy myself" They're nice... there is SO MUCH you can do with the Stingrays; they're great project cars. Good luck and have fun with that! RayRay - "I was thinking 327 Federal..." Ha ha nice.
  12. One was Colt. The other was Fulton Armory - receiver stamped FAR-15 - which seemed questionable to me, so I decided to err on the side of caution. It's all good; now I get to buy two more rifles.
  13. No kidding; if I ever move back, I swear I will never complain about MD laws again... And thanks all.
  14. Hello from Jersey City. Just moved here from Maryland. Unfortunately, I had to sell all my ARs, as each and every one was frowned upon by NJ. State Police were (surprisingly) helpful, but it looks like I'm starting over on the rifle collection. Still, going to go much more slowly this time; as I have less time to shoot but more money than I did when I was 21. Just processed my FID , so I have a few months to think it over. In the mean time, will be doing some research. Already found some great articles here (thanks much) so I joined NJGF. And that's about it.
  15. Hey all – new to NJGF but not to firearms. Great topic; to the OP question, you could always buy a couple of curio & relic or non-functioning firearms. In a TSHTF scenario, with roving bands of armed government agents (the same agents that can’t even spell my name right on my car title) coming to confiscate your guns, I’d bet that (1) they probably wouldn’t have time to examine every firearm and tell the difference (remember this is a WHOLE LOT of guns we’d be talking about). (2) They wouldn't have access to the NJ firearms ownership database (computers would be down, etc.) And (3) would probably be more scared than you; I mean, would YOU go door to door trying to confiscate firearms? Not me. I wanted to chime in because, in my own experience, I did relief work in Katrina shortly after the flood, and I can verify firsthand the families I talked to and stayed with had no problems taking their firearms with their possessions when they evacuated. What they said was, the only people having firearms confiscated were people who had illegal guns or were looting shops, and who already ignored multiple evacuation orders, or were operating outside of the curfew. In short, they said, you had to be pretty stupid and be someplace you had absolutely no right or business to be… I saw and talked to a lot of National Guard – they were completely professional and cool about it all. Weird experience, btw.
