  1. So last year a friend of mine had a temporary restraining order placed on him by his ex, when he went to court, they dropped the restraining order. He's about to apply for his FPID card, but he's not sure if it will count against him, even though it was dropped. His lawyer asked the judge if it would be on his record (as he wants to be a cop), and the judge informed them that since it was dropped, there wouldn't be anything on his record. He was only served the order, but wasn't served any additional charges, he's also wondering how he can tell if there were any other criminal or domestic violence charges associated with the restraining order. (Also, before anyone asks, his ex was blowing stuff out of proportion. The restraining order was BS, and the judge said there was no reason for a restraining order and that it just sounded like a typical teenage breakup). Do you guys think he'll have any problem applying? And how could he find out if there are any charges on his record?
  2. I wonder, for existing magazines, would you be able to take them to a gunsmith and get them modified to 10 round? I've seen online how to use a rivet gun to permenently block them, and I'd rather not be screwed with the mags I have now. Considering Colorado is the only state I know of where anyone would have interest in 15 round mags, the limited market makes it harder to unload them for enough to buy an equivalent number of 10 round mags. Furthermore, I don't want to sell them now, only to have Christie Veto or something. I'd rather have my ANA 15rounders pinned to 10 simply because factor 10 round mags are shorter, and thus harder to load/unload (even if only slightly so). I like having a little something more to hold on to.
  3. Obviously, this thing is a serious threat. XD
  4. It's a lesson that shouldn't be lost on NJ gun owners though. People don't communicate their ideas clearly--much like our legislature makes laws that are murky and up to interpretation. If people were referring to his business not doing well by saying, "You will get what's coming", they should have said, "You will lose my business, and your sales will definitely hurt from this decision". I don't know if it's because my mom is anal about proper language usage, or because I have a lot of lawyers in my family, but I do know that using proper language to communicate ideas clearly is key. And the people that said such vague things are idiots for not being clearer as to their meaning. It can be preemptive though. Armatix can't survive forever without generating revenue. I'm not sure what their business model is--perhaps they have other revenue streams. But I think their idea is that they want to push this technology simply because no other gun makers will touch it. They're trying to utilize political force to gain a lion's share of the market. All monopolies have existed due to some favorable treatment from the government, whether intentional or not. Assuming smartguns are their only revenue stream (or potential revenue stream), they cannot last forever. Eventually their starting capitol will dry up, and investors will be wary of buying stock, as they can't generate a profit. I believe the same thing happened to Metal Storm, they were touted to be the next hotness for a while, but being unable to get the technology to take off, and get it in stores, they ran out of capital, investors stopped putting money into the company, and they withered away. As long as companies don't stock their product, they'll be doomed, and probably much sooner than if they fail to sell once on shelves. Telling investors you have a new product that might do well in the market will generate some capital, but if you can't even get it sold, they'll quickly lose interest. If it gets on shelves, but sales figures are low, they can claim that they just need money to better market it or whatever, which can prolong the amount of time people are willing to invest.
  5. Personally, I think that people were right to get upset. HOWEVER, I cannot condone anyone who threatened violence, or were even exceedingly abrasive towards the man. I believe that people should have said something to the effect of "Good day, I saw you were going to sell this pistol, which would trigger a law which would outlaw all standard pistols in NJ. I hope that you will choose not to stock this item, as you seem to be a dedicated 2A supporter, and I'm certain you wouldn't want to strip NJ gun owners of their rights. I also fear that the bad publicity may cause your business harm, as people may not want to support you thinking you support anti-gun legislation. Please reconsider stocking this pistol. Thanks, and have a good day" I mean, at first I was pretty pissed, and I'm not even a guy who's really into handguns (preferring rifles). However, should I want a dumb-gun at some point before I can leave this state, I would like the ability to get it. But when I saw people were threatening him, and just being dicks about the whole thing, I was appalled. We shouldn't attack our own, or even antis like that, as it reflects poorly on us, and makes gun owners out like all the stereotypes. It plays into the anti's hands. Andy seems like a decent guy, and I don't think he meant any harm. The firearm community could, and should have urged him not to stock this firearm in a better way.
  6. I should say--I've had some offers from forum members--as always the people of NJGF are great people always willing to help out. I hadn't "pounced" on their offers only because I thought maybe the backorder would be filled soon, and I sort of felt bad buying off some of their .22 supply, in case they need it. But at this rate, I might just do that lol.
  7. Yeah I was saving for that (or a mini-30 if I could find a really sweet deal), but I just lost my job, so it looks like that's out of the cards for me any time in the near future. I've got a bit of cash still, so I've contemplated just throwing a WTB thread up, just so I can take my gf out shooting. She's really gotten interested in the past few months. I'm not sure if I'm doing it right though, as yesterday she said she thought a Hi-Point carbine looked cool... ...But she also likes the AR-7, so I guess she might have some good taste lol. But yeah, I want to take her out to shoot, Rosie was kind enough to offer to take us to his range, and teach her (as well as help me), but it's been hard to get the ammo.
  8. That's fine, usually when i screw up seating a primer, i immediately try to destroy the primer, and just junk the case.
  9. Yeah, I'm a little miffed because I think some people mentioned it coming in for sale again recently, so I feel like they got some on hand, and just sold that off immediately instead of honoring backorders. Damn, I'm pissed on a $40 order, and you have $600 tied up. If I had that much tied up, I'd just cancel, and use it towards a Socom.
  10. You think the bio lab at my school would get mad if I tried a few different chemicals to see what destroyed improperly-seated primers? XD
  11. So water won't do the job? I usually filled the case with some water thinking that would work, but based that idea on nothing. Glad I asked. Thanks for the info everyone! I'm glad that there isn't something wrong!
  12. Yeah, I was glad, I use CCI because they're supposed to be harder than standard primers. I never did that before, but for the sake of the video I did it. But glad to hear that, I've never just cycled a round like that so I never knew that was normal. Yeah, I'm not worried, it's just a round i reloaded for the video. I am wondering, how does one destroy a primer that doesn't seat correctly?
  13. So for a video project I have to do, I showed the lifecycle of a round. I basically just reloaded a cartridge. Well to end the video I had the bolt locked back, and released it to chamber a round. I noticed on the ammo (after ejecting it) that there was a dimple on the primer, which seems to indicate the firing pin is hitting rounds upon chambering. I'm not certain what can cause this, but I'm certain it's no-bueno. What could the problem be, and how can I remedy it?
  14. What's Dunklebergers? Never even heard of them.
  15. Good to know, I just contacted customer service, so we'll see.
  16. I pretty much started loading for the same reason. I'm not sure how much cheaper it really is with the calibers I shoot though. .223 is what I mainly load, and there is still some 8mm mauser surplus out there. Components are such a pain to get sometimes, it's tough to figure out if it's really any cheaper. BUT, it's a hobby, and one where I end up with something I need when it's all said and done anyway.
  17. I wasn't sure where to put this, so I apologize if it's in the wrong forum. Anyway, back in March someone on the boards posted that Cabela's had bricks of CCI .22lr Minimag for sale. Anyway, I ordered my single brick, and it's still on backorder. I know some people were saying to wait because Cabela's is good at fulfilling these orders fairly quickly, but it's been over a month or so. Should I just keep waiting or cancel my order? I want the ammo because my gf wants to learn to shoot when the semester is over, but I have no clue when this is coming.
  18. I lurked on the forums for a while, googled any questions I had, asked on here, messaged members, talked to people in person, etc. Plus I bought a load manual, which makes it pretty simple. If you follow the directions exactly you should be okay. I also watched a lot of youtube videos. Oh, and being super-careful is good too. As far as I'm concerned "When in doubt, throw it out". If you're reloading brass, and when inspecting it you see anything that you think is odd, err on the side of caution, and don't load it. I know freedom munitions takes brass, not sure what they value reject brass at, but that's a good way to find some purpose for rejected casings. Just double checked, they don't take bad-brass. Okay, I'm not sure what to do with bad brass then. I guess stockpile it, and eventually recycle it. Come to think of it, what do other people do with their bad brass?

    Ukraine

I know this, under Stalin when Ukranians opposed their absorbtion into the USSR, all the food they produced was forcefully taken, allowing millions to starve. Ironically the Russian and Ukranian peoples share a common history (no surprise). When the Rus--vikings--raided and settled down the Volga, they first created the province of Kiev. Muscovia was just a back-water trading region until they defeated the Tartars (or perhaps the Huns or Mongols, I cannot remember off the top of my head). After that the power balance shifted to Muscovia. Russia has not been kind to the Ukraine people. I have a lot of Ukranian friends, and I will say the Ukranians I know are the nicest damn people I've ever met, and I do not want their people to suffer. I see parallels to Crimea and the Sudetenland. I hope that Russia will stop there, but I fear that much like Germany, they will not stop until they absorb all of the Ukraine. I am not sure if the US should get involved. The stakes in a potential conflict here is much greater than with stopping Nazi Germany. Nuclear war is unlikely due to mutually assured destruction, but a more stealthy biological attack would be much harder to pin on Russia. I pray that calmer heads will prevail, but this is a very scary situation.
  20. Just wondering, I've seen some of your work, and it looks sweet. But what is cerakote for, just looking cool, or does it offer other advantages? Either way, I've seen some of his work on fb, stuff looks pretty sweet, if I had cash I'd totally get it done for looks alone!
  21. Primer problems? I just ream all the primer pockets (I hope that's the correct terminology) with a chamfer tool. Do that while watching TV, and I find .223 brass very easy to prime after that. Before I reamed/cleaned I'd ocasionally get primers that wouldn't seat all the way, and i'd get scared trying to force them in, so i'd fill the case with water to destroy the primer, then lube it up, and try and use the decapper die to get it out. Always a nervewracking experience lol. But yeah, a few turns with a chamfering tool, and i find it much easier to load a variety of brass. some doesn't need it (can't remember the exact manufacturer off the top of my head, but I remember PMC generally giving me no problems)
  22. I tend to have small dents in some of my casings, but they're smaller than a grain of rice. Yours seem pretty big, I'd be wary of loading them. When in doubt--throw it out. (Or save up your rejects, and send them to freedom munitions for money off new production)
  23. That's fine, I don't load pistol ammo. I've been to Miller's before, they were ok, I was just hoping there would be a closer place. I heard Bob's Little stocks some components, so I may see if they have .224 bullets. I only want to pick up a few hundred since I don't know what my work situation is. Sort of a double-edged sword where I can't spend a lot of money because I'm not sure when I'll have consistent work again, but I also have a lot more time on my hands and need something to do.
  24. I'm fresh out of .224 bullets. I just processed a lot of brass, but without any bullets that doesn't do me much good. I'm just wondering if anyone knows where I could buy some here in south jersey. Also, I'm never sure what weight I should go with. typically I load varget with CCI small rifle primers and a 55gr projectile, but with a 1:9 20'' barrel, I'm not sure whether I should go with a higher mass or not. The load data recommends a 55gr, so I don't really want to deviate, but I've also read 55gr is too light to really be practical for much. That aside, I don't really like long drives if I can avoid it, so I'm not sure what places in South Jersey sell components.
  25. Awesome, one final question, how do I reassemble the die? I looked for a video online, but didn't see anything, but cleaned it out, and it looks good as new. I'm mainly unsure about the decapping pin, I can't remember whether it's supposed to be flush with the collet or not.
