  1. Who cares? The left says and does horrible things all the time, and conservatives have no chance of winning here anyway.
  2. I get that way once I buy stuff for my collection. Just scratched off an arisaka and a revolver (model 10 38spl), so now I don't have any interest in getting thing for a while, even though I still need a carcano for my ww2 collection. Collecting guns is sort of like getting laid. You get your eye on something, look for a good deal, save up for it, get the paperwork, finally get it, feel satisfied, then lose interest for a while... ...least that's how I am Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  3. I thought I was going to be the jerk and say, "You know, 9mm is only like $0.15 a shot..." I say that, but I spent over $2,000 for a cat I found outside work. The initial vet bill wasn't bad, he was perfectly healthy despite surviving in the wilderness for 6 months, walking from Connecticut to Cherry Hill NJ, just had some fleas and ticks. But I had a friend foster him until the gf could take him, then flew him to Boston to be with her at her apartment, but then between her allergies and some work stuff we needed to have him watched for just a week, and since my mom wouldn't let me bring him in for that week I ended up giving him to a college professor of mine... So in the end I get it, that does suck though I'm surprised it costs so much.
  4. I still have to shoot mine. Then again, I'm definitely a collector, I have a few that I take out, and everything else just sits around looking purdy.
  5. That really is your favorite rifle isn't it? Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  6. I'm a steak junkie. For my 5 year anniversary with my girlfriend we went to Morimoto in Philly, I we shared 6 Oz of A5 Wagyu beef. It's one of the few things that lives up to the hype. The fat literally tasted like butter, and it melted in my mouth. Usually I just go to Texas roadhouse though, because it's cheaper. The second best steak I've ever had (and far more affordable) was a ribeye covered in bonemarrow butter at this place in Boston called Eastern Standard, that was a great steak. 7. So I know in reality the SPAS-12 isn't actually a really good firearm. I've heard they're prone to parts breakage and other issues. However, I can't deny that they look awesome. Something I've wanted to do for looks was to convert a Remington 870 into a SPAS clone. I know it's possible to put the stocks on them, but I've never seen anyone make a body kit that would add that iconic heat-shield and pump. I just wanted to throw the idea out there in case someone knew something about this that I didn't, or even how such a project could work. I imagine that reproducing the heat-shield would be relatively easy. Anyone know of a body kit, or way to make one? I'd want it for a pump action since I'd really just be going for the look. 8. I see a lot of people are selling mags, so i assumed that was in anticipation. Would Sweeney really table it? I sort of doubt he would. Would be nice though. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  9. I think everyone here has pretty much given up. It seems that once a law is passed, it never gets repealed, so the situation in NJ will never improve. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  10. Work was cancelled tonight due to snow, so I've been having a few drinks. While shoveling I had some hot apple cider with some "Apple Pie Moonshine mixed in, but the other drink I'm having is one that no one else seems to drink, so figured I'd spread the word. It was my poppop's favorite drink, Gin and Bitter Lemon. It's about 1 oz of Gin with a few ounces of Bitter Lemon (Soda water with Lemon juice and Quinine. Mix in a teaspoon of sugar if you like. It's great, and it seems to have kept the Malaria away from my Poppop.
  11. Still weird how an anime forum based off of the Japanese Futaba Channel has become this weird counter culture hub, and has had such an impact on the world. Either way 4chan is an interesting place, and while "oldies" (not going to use the actual term for fear of offending people), complain about "newbs", the overall board hasn't changed much over the years. 12. A shooter. RC is fine, just good operationally, if there are markings that would be cool too. I've tried rebuilding two of them from barreled receivers I stumbled upon in trades, but I'd need a smith to get them operational (namely matching the bolts, and checking them over). Not that I'd shoot it a lot, but it would be nice to have it as part of my collection. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  13. Damn. I need to find out more about estate sale things. I'm at I'll trying to get a decent deal on a k98 Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  14. Figured I'd ask before I ever take it out. Still beautiful to look at, great piece for the collection. Thanks again for it! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  15. I have an absolutely beautiful Columbian FN49, I actually meant to ask, what 30-06 ammo is best to shoot from it? Not that I plan to shoot it much, but I'd like to give it at least a try some day, but I don't know if they're like Garands, and have issues with certain ammo. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  16. I haven't. I've only recently really begun to understand sight adjustments, and things like that. It sounds silly, but since I came from a no-gun household, I've had to teach myself everything. I started with just proper form and technique, which I've gotten pretty good at, and since I did my first competition, I learned how to adjust the scope on my .22. I never realized how different the M1 garand is compared to other rifles I'm more familiar with (Enfields, Mausers, my AR, and Mosins), which just have preset settings for different ranges. I could ask the guy I bought it off of what it was set for, and see if he remembers what the mechanical zero was.
  17. So while doing some research on how to sight my M1 for different ranges, I just realized that maybe some of my accuracy issues are due to aiming center mass, and not holding 6 o'clock. The garand has become one of my favorite milsurps to shoot, but it is very different from the mausers and other rifles I'm used to. For instance, I assumed the numbers on the drum represented hundreds of yards,(2 would be 200yds, 3 300yds, etc). I assumed this since most European military rifles have sights that correspond to distance. Anyway, the other day I was practicing at 200yds, and wasn't having any luck hitting steel. With my AR I was hitting my 10" target pretty easily, but only managed 1 hit out of 24 shots from the Garand. I believe that this is due to me misunderstanding how to use Garand sights. I was aiming center mass. I was able to get on paper, though low and to the right, I later adjusted and tightened up the group, but I'm considering this a fluke. What I'd like to know is if I should be holding a 6 o'clock hold when aiming the garand. Furthermore, if the elevation clicks work as 1 click is 1" at 100yds, 2" at 200yds, etc. then I'm assuming that if I'm, say 3" low at 200yds, that there's no way to really adjust the rifle perfectly. (Which, in reality would make sense since it's a military rifle, and you just need to hit an enemy, not a bullseye).
  18. Oh I have a bunch of fun things I could try, Lee-Enfield, FN49, or even my ex-sniper Mosin, but I figured the Garand I take out a lot, and I believe they have a decent reputation for accuracy. Only thing is I'd be shooting surplus HXP. I figure that if I at least have some decent equipment, I'll know what errors are due to me, and not my equipment. As for Iron Sights, the reason I was leaning towards the AR is that I have more experience with it at further ranges, and I purposely selected sights that were of a similar profile to the M1 Garand and M14 (Matech rear, Daniel Defense rail mounted front sight--I love the Barely corn). It's mostly a tossup between the Garand and AR15. I think the Garand will be more fun, but I'll also have to adjust the sling for stability, since it's too tight to wrap around my shoulder. Either way, I think I'll learn a lot about bettering my technique, which is my main goal for doing more competitions. Overall I've had most interest in 3 gun and long range. I feel 3 gun is better for learning defensive gun skills, and it looks like a lot of fun. Long range has always interested me because of the difficulty involved, as well as the knowledge one gains in accurate shooting. The major barrier there is that the cost of a good scope is out of my budget. And thanks for the compliment on the AR! Not sure if you remember, but you helped me build it, gave me a lot of advice and instructions! It came out exactly as I wanted it to. I was hoping for something versatile, especially since I was a broke college student when I built it. I figured I'd get something that could reach out a little further, but still be lighter than dedicated long-range guns. It turned out very well, at 50yds I can hit a 8" steel target every shot shooting freehand. It's a great rifle.
  19. So I recently competed in Quinton's .22 rifle match, and it was some of the most fun I've ever had shooting. It also boosted my confidence in my skills, and I learned a lot of things that I had trouble understanding from just reading them online. For example, I never really grasped how to adjust a scope for different ranges using the "Clicks". Fortunately, a man there taught me how to do it, and gave me a rough guide for how many clicks I'd need to adjust for different ranges, which helped me to get on target quickly. I also was really happy that I managed to hit 3/12 targets at 150yds, and 2/12 at 200yds, since I've never shot those distances before. Hell, I think I could have done better, but my bipod was loose, something I didn't realize until I was packing up, which was causing my gun to tilt a little bit. I'm really looking to do more competitions in the future, even just fun ones. I'm thinking of doing the High-power shoot October 8th, but I'm unsure what rifle I should bring. I've considered my M1 Garand, my AR15 (20" chrome-lined barrel 1:9 twist), or my Swiss K31. I'd say I have the most experience with the AR15, but I'm unsure if 55gr rounds will be enough to knock targets down. I have a good bit of experience with the Garand, but I'm not as confident in my skills with it, or with sight adjustment. As for the K31, the recoil is akin to .308 I believe, which may help with accurate shooting, and they have a reputation for being fantastically accurate rifles (Not to mention the straight-pull bolt is fast to operate), but I have no experience with it whatsoever--but I imagine it'll be interesting to bring out. Anyway, if anyone has any advice, I'd appreciate it. I'd also like to know more about 3 gun shoots. I think I'd bring my Sig226 in 9mm, but I feel my AR15 may be a bit big and heavy for 3gun. I also don't think my shotgun is suitable, I have a Remington 870 with an 18" barrel, no choke, with a +2 extension. I'm really glad to have gotten into competitive shooting, it's a ton of fun, and I think that if I keep it up, I might get pretty good, I'm looking forward to seeing people out there!
  20. I'm dumb, I was doing it from my phone at work, clicking on the event calendar, not the event tab itself. Now my only question is whether Scopes and bipods are permitted. They mention shooting prone, or using shooting sticks, but didn't see anything about optics. I want to find out so I can try and make whatever adjustments are necessary beforehand. My work schedule is such that I'll be working until at least 1am the night before, so I'm going to try and set myself up to just have everything ready, and just roll out of bed to go if I can. Just hope the coffee doesn't make me too shakey! Thanks for the compliment! I got this rifle as my first gun when I was 19, I come from a non-gun owning family, and am self-taught. The only issue is that I have no idea what's considered "good shooting" or not, but I'd love to start competing. Someday when I have money I'll get some lessons, but may as well see how I stack up in the meantime.
  21. I have a pretty sweet ride, you guys will be jealous. I have a1998 Toyota camry, got it from my poppop, still proudly have his WW2 unit sticker in the back ( 5th airforce 4th airdrome squadron) I like both the cars I've owned, both the camry and the 97 maxima. Best of all, no car payments Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  22. That's why I never do that. Even when dealing on here, I'll add the 3% to be fair to the seller, but after I saw the scope thing happen here, I was less trusting. Which is a shame since I think highly of everyone on these forums, just can't risk it. Also, screw that guy ruining that mauser. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  23. More common than you'd think. I have a degree in biological sciences, with a minor in chemistry, research experience, and worked at a major biobank which supplies medical specimens to pharmaceutical companies, universities, and other research firms all over the world, and I'm currently working as a pharmacy technician making more than I did at the biobank. Hell, I even had an idea for a cancer treatment. I haven't gotten too far into the chemistry to see if it'll work per-se, but one of my chem professors said the one issue I had thought about was doable. Basically there's a proposed treatment method where you take spheres of silicon, coat them in gold, and then inject them. Due to the vasculature of tumors being misshapen and unusual, they'd accumulate in the tumor. Then, using only infrared light, you could shine a beam through the flesh, into the tumor, and hit the nanoballs. The gold coating scatters the light in a way where it generates immense heat, and burns out the tumor without the side-effects of conventional radiation therapy. The problem is that silicates can accumulate in the body and cause toxicity. I had thought that if we took carbon nano-balls (Buckyballs), coat them in the gold, if similar results could be attained, but in a form the body may be able to break down without the toxicity. Totally just a thought I had about 5 or 6 years ago, so no clue if it's feasible, or if it offers any advantages over the silicates in practice.
  24. When my dad worked for Wawa's corporate offices, they gave all of the employees (or at least the higher ups I guess) these nice leather gym bags. I just use that. I throw the ammo/mags in the side pockets, steel and other targets in the main pouch (and any excess ammo), and smaller do-dads like my savage mkII magazines in the front pouch. It handles the weight really well. You can probably get by with just a nice gym bag. Especially if you have rifle cases with pockets, then you can just throw magazines in there. I've seen some range bags selling for stupid money. It's literally just a pouch to carry crap from one location to another, may as well go with something cheap. Hell, you can probably find a decent backpack at Goodwill or something for $5.
