  1. As an "insider" in the industry I will say one thing; a Certified Pre-Owned car, any brand, just means you have an extended warranty. The advertising folks would lead to believe that only the "best of the best" can become CPO, not true. SO if you're looking at CPO cars you still need to do your due diligence like you would with any used car. Ask for the CarFax but CarFax is not Gospel either. Lots of things that happen to a car never make it on the CarFax. My $.02
  2. Here is Toby. Our 2 year old Brittany. Happiest dog I've ever owned (and I've owned more than a few). If you break into our home however he might lick you to death.
  3. I'll play along. Here's my Auto Ordinance. Just a few minor mods. Nothing fancy at all but still one of my favorites to shoot.
  4. And here is the response from our Governor: Office of the Governor Office of Constituent Relations Post Office Box 001 Trenton, New Jersey 08625-0001 GOVERNOR CHRIS CHRISTIE ELECTRONIC RESPONSE January 31, 2013 Dear Friend: Thank you for writing to express your opposition to new laws regarding gun control. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue. Acting on my commitment to take a full and comprehensive look at the intersection of gun control, addiction, mental health and school safety in New Jersey, I have created the NJ SAFE Task Force. The Task Force will be chaired by two former attorneys general of New Jersey and members who have expertise in the fields of mental health diagnosis and treatment, addiction services and treatment, law enforcement and school safety. Violence in our society has never been solely about firearms, and we would miss an opportunity to better prevent the roots of violence if we didn't look at the complete picture. If we are truly going to take an honest and candid assessment of violence and public safety, we have to look more deeply at the underlying causes of many acts of violence. That means removing the stigma and evaluating issues of mental health, addiction, prevention and treatment services alongside the effectiveness of our firearms laws, enforcement mechanisms and our school safety measures. This task force will convene immediately and report back with its findings. My commitment has always been to evaluate public safety, criminal policy and behavioral science with an approach that recognizes that these issues cannot be separated from one another. The SAFE Task Force will further my commitment in that regard as we look at how we can better guarantee violence control. I hope you find this information helpful. Thank you again for writing. Sincerely, Chris Christie Governor
  5. Thanks for asking. Sadly, it didn't. Was hoping to do it over my company's Christmas break. As it seems to happen all too often life got in the way. A close friend lost his fight with cancer that week so plans changed. And now my free time is taken up with another pastime, I do volunteer work at my kids old high school teaching/helping students design and build the sets for their spring musical. So................. now looking at April/May to work with him. Chris

    S&W 686 grips

Thanks Bob, It's on my list. Just need to find (make) the time. As my wife likes to remind me, I've got too many hobbies. Winter is a busy time of year, I volunteer at a local high school teaching and helping students design and build the sets for their Spring Musical. Once that is over I'm hoping to check out the IDPA deal. I have a 1911 too but, for me, the 686 is more accurate. Chris

    S&W 686 grips

Great point! It had not occurred to me that some grips might interfere with speed loaders. To be honest I was looking for a new look. I purchased the 686 new in 1989 and haven't done a thing to it but shoot it and clean it. Function will now be added to my search criteria. Thanks again!!
  8. I too, am thankful it was re-posted as I have not seen this excellent video before. And yeah, that council member should be removed from office.

    S&W 686 grips

Thanks everyone! And Bob, thanks for the info on covering the backstrap, my hands are on the smaller side so I can now make a more informed choice. That's our Brittany, Toby, in my avatar. Happiest dog I've ever owned.

    S&W 686 grips

Okay, follow up question; my current grip is one piece and attached with a single screw from the bottom of the grip, also, the back strap of the pistol is exposed. I noticed that some wood grips are two halves and have one screw that appears to hold the two sides together as well as covering that metal back strap. Are these all interchangeable? Please forgive the "newbie" question. Thanks

    S&W 686 grips

Thinking of replacing the rubber Hogue grips on my 686 with wood. Any thoughts? The look is a personal decision but anything (manufacturer) I should avoid? Thanks!
  13. I was at Cabela's yesterday. Real slim pickings. They were sold out of most ammo except for shotgun, no 30-30, .223, .45ACP, .357 or .38. Shelves was completely empty, kinda freaky looking.
  14. Grabbed the golden ring and work for the manufacturer now. My old dealer is in Somerset County, German car company, prefer not to say more then that. I stop in from time to time and my guys admit it's not as good as it once was but they are still doing fine. As for service writers, walk a mile in their shoes my friend. I made ALL my techs work the service desk for a week every year. And I busted them hard if they didn't look and act perfectly professional. They hated it, but I also had really good service writer/tech relations.
  15. You need to find a different car dealership my friend. I was a service manager for 12 years at the same dealer and most of my techs made 6 digits or very close to it. This was about 15 years ago. Not a union shop, in fact it used to be a union shop the techs voted out the union and the $$$ went up. Just my real life experience.
  16. I'm another one that had no idea that pin was a union pin, just thought it looked cool. Also, I was in a union for the first 10 years or so of my working career and it really sucked.
  17. And why the hell is this a "general firearms" questions anyway??
  18. Well, I'm older and have other medical issues so my doctor, who I really like and trust, tells me to get the shot every year. My wife is in the same boat and gets the shot. My daughter and her 18 month old son are living with us for a while (long story) neither of them got the flu shot. Right now, as I write this, they are both sick as dogs, have been for a few days now, wife and I are fine. Coincidence? I have no idea but I think I'll keep getting the shot.
  19. Lot's of posts here and the thread is all over the place. My 2 cents, in this country the general, law abiding, citizen should be allowed to own any weapon that is available to government agencies. "When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny." TJ As others have correctly stated, and for the trolling anit-gunners that I am sure are watching this site, full auto weapons are much less deadly then semi-auto. "Spraying" bullets is very ineffective. Lastly, I would LOVE to own, and shoot, a Thompson 1927A.
  20. Wait, Blueline, you can only change one letter.
