  1. Yes--access to all safes, but she usually forgets and has to ask me for the code. She just got FID and I have a 9 ordered for her, she also "has" a Beretta 92, which is technically mine. And I have no worries about her capability and safe handling.
  2. Glad you caught it and got it taken out. That is one of my biggest fears also--what if you are out in the sticks somewhere, or climbing a mountain or something. I tried to convince the surgeon who did my hernia to remove the appendix while he had me opened up. He convinced me not to--not that I would have changed his mind anyway. But I still have that fear that it is just going to go one day--and I will ignore it, attributing it to some bad food and hope it will pass--and I will be screwed.
  3. But it does not define "vehicle." Do you think any vehicle (bicycle, segway, golf cart) as long as it is locked up and neither readily or directly accessible? I guess this is the danger of non-lawyers trying to understand the law. Seems a little absurd that one should need to retain counsel just to figure out how to legally transport.
  4. You are correct. I misspoke, which is why I retracted it above. Thanks for the correction and I apologize for the misleading information.
  5. Yeah, I think my original statement was incorrect. Sorry for the misinformation.
  6. Well that pretty much settles it then. Great polemic skills there.
  7. I am pretty sure there would be armed MPs as well as a number of regular officers carrying M9s in the Navy yard--so likely a much higher proportion of armed citizens than the rest of D.C.
  8. No one is trashing police or military--well maybe someone is. I think the adults are trying to have a discussion about this response/incident in NYC and if maybe weapon policy and training would have led to a better outcome. In my experience the military training and drilling is pretty extensive and constant. That is just my observation based on seeing U.S troops during normal working activities.
  9. Conjure indeed! If you are just going to resort to an ad hominem argument because either you cannot refute what has been said, or you are incapable of the abstraction required to understand metaphorical reference and analogy. Well then there is no discussion.
  10. So if a bridge collapses, only PEs should be allowed to criticize the engineer who designed the bridge?
  11. Is every right in the Bill of Rights sacrosanct, absolute and not to be restricted for any reason whatsoever? Are any of them?
  12. If (as 'plode' first suggested) the activity occurs on land that you own, then I am pretty sure this possession exemption applies: 2C:39-6 e. Nothing in subsections b., c. and d. of N.J.S.2C:39-5 shall be construed to prevent a person keeping or carrying about his place of business, residence, premises or other land owned or possessed by him, any firearm. The quote above is taken from the same list of exemptions (infra), specifically 2C:39-6 f (2). IANAL, but both exceptions are written to specifically apply to sections b., c. and d. of N.J.S.2C:39-5 (supra), which deals specifically with unlawful possesion of handguns (b), rifles and shotguns ( c), and other weapons (d).
  13. I carry a Spyderco Tenacious every day. I often use it at the mall to slice an apple, open plastic packages, or remove tags from purchases. Normally it is stowed in a hip pocket with only the clip visible. Never been questioned, but if I was I would explain what I normally use it for.
  14. This is something I do not understand. And I have never received a red-light camera ticket, so have not had a chance to find out. I would think that, unless they have a picture of the driver, there is no proof of who was driving the vehicle when it was recorded in the infraction. So the right to face ones accusers, plus the presumption of innocence, coupled with the 5th ammendment--the burden of proof is on the state. Has anyone tried to go before the court and demand that they fulfill their burden of proving who was driving the car? It seems like that would be the end of it, but apparently not because my understanding is that people are not regularly beating these tickets. I also understand that their are no points/moving violations, so maybe that is the state's key to this revenue stream--a moving violation requires the higher threshold of guilt? Friends of mine have received speeding tickets from cameras on I-95 in MD. The ticket is only $40 and no points, so most people will just pay it--especially if you are just driving through. I would not be suprised to see these on the Tpk and parkway soon.
  15. There are problems with the yellow light timings being too short for the speed on the road they are placed--often these are never calibrated or certified. If you are in the intersection for any reason for even a few hundredths of a second you can be ticketed. And most of the right-turn-on-red tickets are issued if you do not stop for a certain amount of time--typically 3-5 seconds, but traffic law states that you must only come to a complete stop before a right-turn-on-red. The 3-5 second requirement is a total fabrication. I totally agree with not running red lights. Problem is the cameras do not provably enhance safety, and may even cause more accidents because people will slam on the brakes at every yellow light. The only purpose is revenue stream.
  16. Help put an end to this unconscionable big-government, safety-sacrificing scam: http://www.change.org/petitions/new-jersey-department-of-transportation-end-the-red-light-camera-program-in-nj Sorry if this was already posted.
  17. Citizen Kane! Psycho Rope North by northwest Strangers on a train Also the 2012 Hitchcock (with Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren) about the making of Psycho is pretty good Breakfast at Tiffany's (I know, I know--chickflick--but I love Audrey Hepburn) Dr. Strangelove 2001 The Shining A Clockwork Orange The Seven Samurai The Hidden Fortress (aka the original Star Wars) Ran and several others by Kurosawa The best Disney movie: Fantasia
  18. Yes. I know taxes are high, but I would gladly pay a bit more to fund these essential services. If they were fully funded they could spend this time on training or community outreach. I agree that it is pretty bad that these people volunteer their time and are willing to put their lives on the line, then the state says "oh yeah, thanks for the sacrifice, but umm you are going to need to raise your own funding as well."
  19. I understand there are underfunding issues. And I hesitated to even post this because I support the volunteer squads, but I just don't think this is a really good way to collect donations; but apparently it is effective otherwise you would not see it so much. I much prefer when they do an open house with demonstrations and outreach information and community involvement. But I guess that only brings the people in the community, and probably not a large percentage will even come to these.
  20. This is something that has bugged me since I moved to NJ. Seems like every holiday there is some volunteer FD or EMS setup on busy roads/intersections panhandling for donations. I am a big supporter of the volunteers and I am all for their fundraising, but this just seems really dangerous, not to mention a huge waste of time and gas. I spent over ten minutes in traffic on Route 70 in Lakehurst yesterday (from the Eisenhower circle to the Orchard street traffic light.) I am thinking there must be an accident. Then I get to the Lakehurst volunteer FD standing in the middle of Route 70 collecting money. No signs or anything until maybe 100 yards away, where they had a big sign and some cones. I have never seen this in any other state, can't imagine it is legal, and it seems really dangerous. Especially with all the senior citizens in this area.
  21. I have never seen an acceleration limit posted. If I am driving under the speed limit I can get a ticket for exceeding an acceleration limit? Do those radar guns calculate the second derivative???
