  1. Not sure if this has been covered, but make sure you are shooting at your target - don't shoot at someone else's. Sounds obvious, but it happens. Also, don't shoot fast unless you can control your weapon. I've heard people rip off a string of fire at an indoor range and hit the ceiling and metal target brackets. It's unnerving.
  2. RTSP also maintains an active FB page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/RTSP-Range-Firearms-Training/194343510616859
  3. Me too. I use this and it serves my needs perfectly: http://www.amazon.com/Stack-On-QAS-1304-Profile-Access-Electronic/dp/B0013LO0F6/ref=sr_1_24?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1342662693&sr=1-24
  4. First of all, congratulations! You are making some major life changes. I have a house and a couple teenagers. As others have mentioned, having kids will change your life profoundly and raising kids can be unpredictable. You never know when your kid is going to puke or say something really really cute, so have the mop ready, as well as the camera. Parenthood is an amazing, frustrating, humbling, fulfilling experience. My advice is this: As a parent, being a "cold, logical, processing robot" will stress you out. Let it go. Don't worry so much. Don't plan so much. Enjoy things as they come. Children need to be able to explore and discover without being on a leash. And, as a parent, you will see that you will re-discover the world through them. Be open to that and enjoy the ride. It goes fast!
  5. One of these bad boys... http://www.cabelas.c...gun-kit-1.shtml Oh, and a carry permit.
  6. I don't really know, range fun I guess. I just want one! Do you have a specific suggestion regarding the CZ-75? I now shoot GSSF with my Glock 22, but I would consider USPSA, either with the Glock or something else.
  7. Sounds good. I'll begin my internet search, but I think I'll need some luck. Most CZ-75B's come with a factory *16* round mag. I need to find the 10 rounders.
  8. I am in the market for a CZ-75B. Several retailers in NJ told me the same story - the gun is out of stock. I assume the retailers get their guns from regional distributors and the distributors are out of stock? If that's the case, can I buy the gun online, or from PA and have it shipped to a local FFL, or are there restrictions to that in NJ? Thanks!
  9. Good thread! I've had my pistol for a year and I've taken many of my family, friends and coworkers to the range and some even applied for their FID/pistol permits. But, I've also gotten those shocked looks at parties if/when I bring up the subject of shooting. It's certainly a strange reaction that most Americans outside a non 2A friendly state ever experience. I believe even hunting is more "acceptable" in north Jersey than owning a handgun. But, I believe I am an embassador for 2A, as we all are. People know me as an upstanding citizen, so when they hear I own firearms, their knee-jerk reaction of labeling me as a criminal doesn't compute, forcing them to rethink their views about guns. That's a very good thing. If each of us can alter the mind-set of a few of our closest trusted friends and family members about guns, we can make a difference. I need to be careful though. Some people just don't like guns and won't open their minds to it. I have kids and I don't want their friend's parents fearing that my house is unsafe because there are firearms locked away in it. The best thing for gun owners is for our neighbors to see us as responsible citizens, and not like those people they see in the news committing horrible gun-related crimes.
  10. I saw this on the ANJRPC website (http://www.anjrpc.org/). Apparently, this is being considered by committee on Monday, June 30. The weblink provides phone numbers and emails of committee members. We should all call and urge them not to approve this legislation.
  11. +1. OP: check online anyway. Prices are way better than stores/LGS and shipping can be surprisingly cheap and fast. You may be able to get a few boxes delivered to your door with less cost and much less hassle than fighting holiday crowds and standing at the gun counter at Dicks. Try sgammo.com. I just bought 1,000 rounds of Remington UMC .40 for $274 delivered to my door, including shipping. That's less than $14 per box, way better than Stroudsburg Walmart prices.
  12. We were shooting in separate lanes. I believe guest passes are only valid when sharing a lane with a member. Besides, you're right - before 10 was too early for us!
  13. I went to RTSP this past Friday AND Saturday. Hmmm, maybe having a range so close to my house is not such a good idea! I just absolutely love this place. Even though I'm a member, I went Saturday morning after 10 because I had a non-member friend with me. It wasn't that crowded. I'd say half the lanes were occupied when we were there. I've got a lot of friends that are interested in the range because I tell everyone I see about it. In fact, my wife - who has no interest in shooting - told her friends about my hobby and they ALL want to go to the range ASAP. Of course, their husbands will go too. Good Lord, what kind of monster have I created? Seriously, I think it's fantastic and it's just what New Jersey needs: more citizens that understand and support shooting sports and the right and responsibility of owning firearms. I consider my efforts part of a bigger movement to promote acceptance of firearms in NJ. Start at the grass roots level and maybe someday NJ won't be among the worst states to own a gun. Most non-shooters I talk to (mostly women) have an image of gun ranges as dark and dusty dungeons. RTSP blows that image away. And the fact that they are on FaceBook really makes it more normal to them since they are on FB all the time. (I am not trying to be sexist, it's a fact among my friends). Anyway, it's a good thing! On a side note: I have my eye on the Beretta 92FS Inox in the gun case. The price is $700, which seems to be pretty good compared to other places I've checked. That's good to know.
