  1. If somebody does well with a .410, they'd have my respect for their accuracy.
  2. Yep, the 5th weekend should be open from regularly scheduled meets. Who else likes the 31st?
  3. :unknw: Mid- to late-March is on deck... Who likes the 24th?
  4. I'm confused on your description of double action. When talking about a semi-auto, when you insert a magazine (not a clip, but that's a different discussion) with the slide forward, there is no round in the chamber until you cycle the slide manually. A double action does not load your first round by pulling the trigger. A double action means that the trigger pull will a. cock the hammer and b. release the hammer. "Double action only" means that the slide action does not leave the weapon cocked and every shot will be a double action pull. DA/SA means that, after you have loaded a round in the chamber, you can decock the weapon. Your first trigger pull will be in double action, and the action of the slide will leave the weapon cocked for your follow up shots to be in single action. Different types of the same model can be DAO or DA/SA. For example, the SIG P229 may be purchased in a DAO. There is no decocker and the hammer is exposed, but slim and cannot be manually cocked. It can only be fired with a DA pull. You insert a magazine, cycle the slide to chamber a round, pull the trigger to cock and release the hammer, fire, the slide cycles and loads another round, the hammer does not stay cocked, you pull the trigger to cock and drop the hammer to fire the next round. The P229 can also be purchased as a DA/SA configuration. That has a decocker and a hammer that can be manually cocked. When you load a round in the chamber by cycling the slide, the hammer remains cocked, you can then decock the hammer and that is the safe position. To fire, you can pull the trigger in double action, the round will fire, the slide will cycle and the hammer will remain cocked in position for your next trigger pull to be in single action. Alternatively, you can leave the hammer cocked our manually cock the hammer to fire that first shot in SA. (Maksim... Thanks for fixing the language filter. Just imagine this post with the old setting.)
  5. A double action trigger pull does two things. As the trigger is pulled, the hammer is brought back, then the hammer is released. A single action trigger pull only does one thing. The pull of the trigger releases the hammer or striker. The "only" means that the gun is designed to only have that trigger pull. The DAO design is generally a longer, heavier pull when compared to SAO. DA/SA allows you to decock, so that your first shot must be fired in DA, but the cycling of the action will leave the weapon cocked so that any second shot will be in SA.
  6. So he admitted his mistake and happily sold you the .22 without a safe? Sounds like he was an employee that made an honest mistake and was able to accept that. That sounds a whole lot different than somebody thinking he's infallible. Did it ruin your experience? Congratulations on your purchase. Now show some pics. And don't let one mistake ruin your view of the place you chose to purchase from. Heritage Guild is friendly, convenient and generally knowledgable, just not the cheapest. Posting half your encounter was unfair to the business that obviously has an uphill battle to turn a profit in NJ.
  7. You're right. I did say to call that number. I don't know why. Even the NJSP site puts up a disclaimer that they are not authorized to provide legal advice. If you have access to competent legal advice, since you're not getting any here, you should use that. If they give you the green light, great. Good luck on Saturday and don't forget to post pictures of your new purchase.
  8. What have you found so far? 18 months of prison or freedom and $10,000 fine or extra money for plinking over a 4th degree felony, seem like two very good reasons to give a safety buffer. IMHO. And not being eligible to ever purchase a handgun (or any other firearm) again once your 18 months is over is also worth considering. So, what is it that you've found, other than some nice lady's verbal opinion?

Haha... they take the place of those cheap Bic pens. Really nice looking 60. I love wood grips on SS guns, all the model 60's that I see have the black rubber and there's just no character. How did buying in PA work out for you? Do they do the paperwork? Or did you have to ship it to an FFL in NJ?
  10. I'm surprised that thread made three pages without anyone telling him his glock uses a magazine.
  11. I'm in pending a date! Mike, bring the wife to tally my debt. If something gets started for South Jersey, that'd be great too.
  12. Yeah, the exemptions are possible, but I see Vortex' point. 365 days in a year and 30 day periods should theoretically allow you to make 13 handgun purchases without needing an exemption. Since the count starts on the following day, it doesn't work out the way a number of the OGAM proponents suggested that it would when the legislation was enacted. Still, the answer, when you do the NJ math, is 2/1.
  13. Your FID card? Possible. I'd be more concerned about them trying to decide whether to charge you with 2C:39-10(1) a. for fraudulent conduct in the retailing of firearms, a crime of the fourth degree, or 2C:39-10(2) g. as a person presenting false information to obtain a handgun within the 30 day period is guilty of a crime of the third degree. Penalties for a crime of the fourth degree include 18 months imprisonment and up to $10,000 fine. Penalties for a crime of the third degree include 3-5 years imprisonment and up to $15,000 fine. Really, if this is questionable, call the number PK90 have you above.
  14. No. Day 30 is the last day of the 30 day period. You cannot purchase your second handgun within the 30 day period. You need the 30th day to expire before you're legal to purchase.
  15. Date +30 with a "day begun is a day done" is start on 1/2, add 30 = 1/32 = 2/1. The number of days in the month were set out to make it easier to figure out without counting on your fingers, not that it had anything to do with the number 30.
  16. PM sent. Any idea when the order is going in?
  17. PK90 put it best... http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php?/topic/31186-when-allowed-for-next-handgun-purchase/page__p__411586__hl__+leap%20+year__fromsearch__1#entry411586
  18. I really wasn't clear how you interpreted the story and your quotes. By your first and last statement deriding corrupt government and questioning whether he said he was not threatened... It just wasn't clear. If that's what you meant, then I agree with you.
  19. The neighbor came home, found his home burglarized and found someone climbing out of his neighbors window. Yes, being the victim of a burglary is a horrible experience and I feel for the guy, but with the information presented, the neighbor who fired a warning shot was never in any way threatened or saw anyone else being threatened. He was not in his dwelling with any concern for his safety from the burglar, the burglar was not on his property. His actions do not fit into any of the justified use of deadly force provisions. He negligently fired into the ground without cause. To be clear, I don't consider firing into the ground to be a safe direction, as was later stated in the article. He had no idea what rocks or metal may have been an inch below the ground and he could have easily caused a ricochet to harm anyone nearby. Yes, for everyone that wants to say he was helping the police, he should have attempted to make a citizens arrest until the police arrived and kept the burglar at a safe distance if he was concerned. He should have gotten a description. If the burglar fled, he should have noted the direction. He should have called the police and given them the information. At no time was he or anyone else threatened, so he had no reason to start shooting.
  20. Pfft... manuals are a last resort
  21. I didn't know that. Now there's another thing to like about these, and I'll probably twitch less next time I get to that part in the field stripping.
  22. Also, I don't know about the hunter's fiber optic sight, but the target's front iron sight had a tendency to work loose. A bit of lock tite on the sight's screw is recommended. All that said, bring a small screw driver in your range bag. My pocket knife with a leather punch was handy to pull out the fte's.
