  1. In addition.. It's a dark movie theater filled with people dressed as batman. Even if someone else was armed there is way too much risk of hitting another civilian or being mistaken for the shooter by responding police. I can just imagine: Sitting there watching an action movie.. someone kicks in the exit door and throws smoke and starts shooting. People panic. Would I be able to identify the attacker and get enough of a view of their surroundings to take a clear shot while everyone else was running for the exits?
  2. Haven't seen it mentioned but check out Rayco Armory and Lawmans Supply, both in merchantville. A short jaunt down rt38 from he moorestown and Mt Laurel area. I can't speak to their prices or selection compared to others but they're worth stopping into.
  3. I think the worst thing that can happen is it could spark another John Cusack movie.
  4. I've only been to Range-14, which is very nice for the price but can get busy (Full disclosure, the three times I've been there). I'll have to check out SJSC.. according to Google maps it's only 22 miles (37 minutes) from me.. vs 23 miles (49 minutes) for Range-14.
  5. Aye. The confusion is clear just reading through the NJ Gun Laws threads but there is lots of good info there. It doesn't help that the NJSP website contradicts the statutes in many areas.. maybe that is because they also deal with inter-state transport where FOPA applies. In reading those threads, you don't technically need the guns locked in the vehicle, right . Sounds like you could keep the guns in the range bag as long as they're in separate containers/sections of the bag from the ammo.
  6. From the Range 14 web site: 13. No targets should exceed more than five feet in height. 14. Paper targets, plastic jugs, tin cans, plywood targets (no more than 1/8 of an inch thick), and clay targets, are acceptable targets. Above ground targets must be a minimum of 15 yards and all ground targets 25 yards. 15. Glass bottles, bowling pins, plywood (more than 1/8 of an inch thick), or batteries are NOT permitted to be shot on Range 14. 16. ALL metal targets must be inspected by Range 14 staff, and be a minimum of 200 yards, upon approval.
  7. Thanks Duppie.. that summary was pretty informative. Here's the link in case anyone searches: NJ Gun Law Summary. The applicable section to this conversation: Also listed in that (and in various threads under NJ Gun Law forum) is the interpretation that firearm and ammo can be in the same bag as long as they are separated from eachother.. either separate containers in the main bag, or separate (zippered) sections of the bag.
  8. Thanks all for the comments and ideas. While I'm not looking to spend much money just because something says "Range bag", I still want to come prepared and have things organized. Looking at this list got me confused. Do you transport the bag like this? I thought transporting loaded mags was verboten, as was transporting the firearm in the same container as ammo. Is it still legit if they're in separate containers but those bags in the same "range bag"? Ideally I'd like a single bag that I store at home semi-complete. When it's time to go to the Range I grab that, the firearm(s) from the safe, and the ammo and off I go.
  9. I'm new to going to ranges so I'm looking for opinons.. what do you guys usually take with you to the range (to shoot pistol). How do you store/organize/transport it? Are there any bags/cases/whatever you'd recommend to store and transport the assorted detritus? Obviously hearing/eye protection, ammo, and firearm but is there anything else you'd throw in?
  10. Same! Welcome from another Burlington County shooter.
  11. Hey, Welcome to the forums. I'm new to the forums as well and down in your area.
  12. Ironical we just had four different AC companies out and they've all said I need a new coil, though for three different reasons. One of the problems is that just calling these companies usually costs money for the "service" of fining out what we need to pay them to replace. It limits how many quotes I'm willing to get if each one costs $$$. And the reason I call multiple is to hopefully filter out the ones trying to oversell. But when they all tell a different story where does that leave me? The biggest kick in the teeth? My AR budget is going to be spent on AC!
  13. It all comes down to checks and balances. Unions were (and are) in place as a check against the power of businesses and to keep them from exploiting workers. To that end they've been remarkably successful with things like working conditions, wages.etc. Unforunately that success has swung things the other way in many respects and there is no check or balance against the power of the Union. On a small scale the success of a business and the success of a union are linked. The union is mostly made of the workers and if the business fails so does their livelihood. Once the union gets too big, or too powerful that breaks down and the union becomes focused more on more power, growth..etc.. even to the detriment of the business (and ergo sometimes the workers). You can't tell me that the union is acting in the best interests of its members if it forces contracts that force companies to shutdown or move overseas..
  14. #8 The barf bags are still free.. get every cent out of them. This will be enhanced with #1 and might also help you with #2, #3 and #7 above. Probably not so much with #4 though.
  15. We were down near Rehobeth, DE. Around 2:30 Saturday the wind kicked up so hard and fast I thought it was a tornado. Thunder, lightning and rain like other storms but the wind was amazing. Family down outside DC and they won't get power for a few days.
  16. I'm new, and certainly not anything when it comes to interpreting NJ's gun statutes but.. The only hole I could see is that the definition of 'residence' changes during the trip. Leave Residence1 to Range then to Residence2 where R1 != R2. I don't know how its worded but wouldn't be surprised if they tie it to your residence as defined on your Drivers License or FID. You would probably need some selective proof of residence documentation that you'd use depending on which leg of the trip you were on... FID/DL for the first leg, and a new cable bill for the second.
  17. We both had taken the Basic Pistol class put on by ShootNJ. They had a few SA and DA revolvers as well as semi-autos. Of the ones she fired she liked the 357 the best. She said she didn't like the autos, but couldn't really tell me why. I just picked up a Sig 226 so I want to get her up to the range and at least try that. It's in the house so she should know how to use it. Will have to look into the S&W you mention. I wouldn't be opposed to a used gun.. the big thing is that she's comfortable with it... both its fit (in her hand) and function (firing it). At a minimum I'd want or to hold it before I purchased anything but I'd prefer she fire it a few times. The worst thing I could do is buy her something unseen, have her hate it, and put her off from the whole idea. Thanks for the info.. everyone. Will have to get the MIL to babysit and plan a afternoon trip sometime soon (before the permit expires).
  18. Im looking for a good place where my wife and I can go to try a few pistols before I use my last permit. From where I am in the moorestown/mt laurel area of Burlington count it seems my choices are rather limited. I think it's just Bobs and Ready aim fire that are both about 30 minutes away and Shore Shot that is about an hour. Am I missing any? Any opinions on these? I'd rather not drive an hour one-way but it may be worth it if they have a better selection. We are both new to shooting. Her only time was in a class and she was partial to the 357 loaded with 38's. Probably because the bigger gun had less recoil with hat load. I want her to try a few others. Thoughts? Thanks.
  19. I have a used Sig 226 that I just picked up short time ago. Only fired 150 rounds or so though but I it was consistently not locking back after the last round... probably 5 out 6 magazines it did not lock back. At first I thought it had to be cleaned but after reading the above maybe it was my grip. When a friend shot it the slide locked back fine. I've since scrubbed the heck out of it and next time I shoot will look at thumb position.
  20. Danke.. So my understanding is this "Transfer" is basically my mom giving, for zero cost, the rifle to the FFL. The FFL then gives, at zero+fee, the rifle to me. Is that correct? So the COE would be filled out between the FFL and myself?
  21. Thanks, that makes sense. Hopefully I can find a FFL that isn't too far away from her current, or new location.
  22. No, she's staying up in Maine. I can see how that would be easier.
  23. I imagine it depends on Maine laws but do you know what is involved for a "transfer by FFL"?
