  1. I can't imagine WD-40 could harm anything. It's mostly mineral spirits and mineral oil. It seemed to work pretty well though. We use WD-40 at work...it's a great solvent.
  2. I mean, I don't think it's unsafe....(especially after watching that Mosin torture test video, lol).....it's just rough. I suppose it's no skin off my back, as it was free....but I'd be pretty bummed if I can't use it.
  3. As I just posted in another thread....I just brought home a Mosin that was given to me years ago. It's pitted all to hell. What should I do....just shoot it? It's been sitting for YEARS. I tried orange cleaner, No 9, Windex....kept pulling dirty patches. I finally used WD-40...finally cleaned up. Bore's in bad shape.
  4. BOOOO.... The bore is rusted all to hell. Just shoot it?
  5. In Texas nonetheless. This has to be the most bizarre story I've seen in forever. Doesn't shoot anyone else? What was the point of going to such a crowded place? How the hell does one even get near the airport doors with an AR?? There are police everywhere. I need more tinfoil.
  6. Point being...I don't see any need to 'chase' 5.56 ammo. One thing I did read though was something about the NATO round having a 'less sensitive' primer that's suitable for use in full auto.
  7. That's how I'm understanding it....it becomes an FFL transfer at that point. The transaction is going through a dealer, so there's a paper trail of it, NICS check, etc....correct?
  8. 5.56 is a hotter round...that's it as far as I know. .223 sounds like it's fine for your needs.
  9. That's assuming you're going through an FFL, even if the transaction is p2p. I'm talking about p2p trades without an FFL involved....apparently illegal when crossing state lines. In WV, I know people walk into the shows with one gun on their possession, and typically walk out with something different....no FFL involvement whatsoever. No cash, no payment, no NICS, no paperwork.....just trading one gun for another. From what I gather, that would be legal if PA to PA resident (as it was with WV to WV resident)...but not to a DE or NJ resident.
  10. Too bad this will never see the light of day. Looks like it was indeed 90% in favor......of NOT expanding background checks.
  11. I'm typically a trusting person....but I'm skeptical of this guy's intentions.
  12. Thanks! I've been a lifelong shooter....just recently a purchaser though.
  13. Assuming due to the verbiage of the first statement....PA <-> DE resident = illegal as well, correct? How does sites like Gunbroker and Armslist work then? Transfer through FFL makes it legal?
  14. You guys are awesome. Sinker and dowels...easy enough.
  15. If all goes right, I'll be there Saturday looking for Mosin stuff. I think my needs a bayo. Also...I'm not familiar with PA gunshows. In WV, you could bring your guns with you and potentially trade (p2p of course)....is that kosher here?
  16. Thanks Frank. Usnmars.....I picked up two boxes of these yesterday at the LGS. Should be GTG, right? I'm not planning on shooting this a bunch right away....If this think kicks like I'm hearing...I'll probably stop after a few rounds anyway, at least until I get some sort of recoil pad. Regarding slugging the barrel....I've never done it before. My dad said I could just get some lead sinkers and use a wooden dowel rod, right?
  17. How does one go about reloading for this? Do you have to buy new boxer primed brass? Where can you get it? I saw a video showing how to use copper tubing to bush the berdan primer pocket, but that looked like a huge PITA. I'm not going through that much work for a novelty. Also....this is awesome.
  18. Frank, Can you please send me the link to the pads you ordered? I'm gonna have to get some myself. Thanks in advance.
  19. Hey, I just started myself. I ended up settling for a mix of dies. I started helping my dad when I was a young'n, but just recently bought all the stuff myself. I finally decided to pull the trigger on a press because they seem to be drying up as well. I'm glad I did though....I think I found a great load for my 7mm-08. 7/16" group out of a 700 Mountain contour barrel at 100 yards. To me, < 0.5 MOA is superb for that gun. I'm going to load 10 more of that load (43.5 grains of Varget behind a 120 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip) and confirm at the range this weekend. I haven't even got to the 4064 (120 gr NBT) loads or the the Varget and 4350 (140 gr NBT) yet.
  20. From someone who just moved FROM NJ....I second this post. IMHO, it's worth the commute.
  21. From my understanding, the bullet seater in the 3 die set also incorporates a crimper. You should be fine. Keep in mind if you plan on shooting the 5.56 in an AR...you may want to consider crimping those as well. The recoil may unseat the bullets in a mag. I've heard the Lee FCD is a good one.
  22. Thanks all. I'm slightly surprised....nobody here knew him?
