  1. Not to drag on this thread but is drilling into the barrel 1/8 of an inch enough to pin the brake? I just finished mounting a brake to my new m4gery. Two issues that I had. 1. When timing the brake I compressed the crush washer to the point that its not perfectly aligned with the barrel.ugh.... so I Tryed to re time the brake with a new crush washer and same thing any comments on that and 2. While installing the brake I did the timing checked the depth twice maybe three times and set up the drill press. Drilled hole, installed pin. Once the pin was installed I Tryed to remove the brake and there was a little movement. Now Iam a big guy 290 and build so I guess if I Tryed I could just wrench it off. Destroying the Barker and barrel at the same time. Should I be concerned? Again thanks all for your help.......oh and by the way that Duracoat job I did a month ago came out really nice the finish is really on their..... it's been out to the range a few times and the only issue is that due to the fact that's is a sp1 upper with no case deflector it left little marks that just wiped off......
  2. As a matter of fact Iam married and she's a gun nut too.....lol.... she wants her own build but Iam not too fond of the pink or purple choices of color though........ugh..... I might be able to tolerate Colts "Muddy girl" edition but good luck finding one..... I guess it's OK because I have plenty of flat black Ceylon if the shit hits the fan......haha.... thanks for all the input guys.. the only bad thing about this site is it costs me more money........
  3. Someone please help..... I can't stop myself 3 builds in and now Iam looking at a 4th........ now that parts are becoming more and more available I keep buying stuff...... I have a A4 clone and m4gery and a Afghan type build all turned out really nice. My next build I was looking for something diffrent so I was thinking something in 300 BLK.... I know I can't run a suppressor and Iam cool with that. I like the larger cal. In the ar platform and the fact that you can reuse 223/556 brass.... I am an experienced reloader so that's not much of an issue.... anyhow any input good or bad would be welcome.....thanks all....

    Dura coat

Thanks all who replied... I did the duracoat and I have to say it came out really nice.... I have a background in automotive refinishing and I just followed suit. Clean the crap out of it a couple of times warmed the parts up in the oven.....( don't tell the wife..lol..... ) a guide coat than a couple of heavier coats with enough flash time between. I will try to post picks but I havent quite figured that out....duh....
  5. Nothing for nothing and I know its a ride but cabelas has a huge selection and the best part is you can shoot them before you buy....
  6. Hey Nickjc....thanks for the input. But the brake that they list is for a 11 Inch barrel so the threads are located at the rear of the brake.. I have a 16 inch barrel and the flashhider that I have is more like a barrel shroud it slides down on top of the barrel and the threads are closer to the openings in the flash hider opening. So over all the barrel with the hider is like 17 1/2 inches long.....am I exposing the right....sorry bro more of a hands on guy....lol. thanks again..
  7. Thanks all for replying.... JT so I would be gtg by welding a washer to the end closing it up? That would be awesome and a great cost saver. Last night I was sitting in bed looking at this flash hider and Iam looking at my build. I have a spikes dynacomp extreme mounted on it....hummm what if I took the flash hider and drilled out the opening to press fit the dynacomp I wouldn't have to open it too much. I would cut the dynacomp at the threads align the comp holes with the slits on the flash hider and weld the muzzle end....grind and refinish....pin and weld.....I would still retain the look of the commando flash hider with the added stability of the dynacomp.....doable??????
  8. OK...hello all. A friend of mine has a rifle that be wants refurbished. It has a threaded 16 barrel. He really has a liking to an early colt commando type 5 inch flash hider. The one he has is a non NJ compliant flash hider... ( not installed on the barrel ) my thing is can i weld a washer to the front of the flash hider and weld up the bottom slots so it is no longer a flash hider. But just mimmicks one. I know its a crazy request but like I said he really likes it... does anyone know of a company that makes something like this? Thanks everyone......

    Dura coat

Dura Coat .......yeah or nay... comments and suggestions all welcome... have used other products in the past that required media blasting and baking. Looking to avoid that but I want a nice finish..... my blasting cabinet took a dump and the wife not too keen on me using her oven...lol thanks all.
  11. Thanks guys no its not a Colt lower its a E.A. its an old cast lower never see one before the company is out of KR Springs LA.... nothing marked on the lower saying ar15 just cal. 223 556 Mod j-15 from my research the model number j-15 is a cast lower the same number but followed by a (F) would indicate that it is a forged lower..... anyone see or know of this company? Thanks guys for all your input....

  14. Hello all. A friend of mine has a pre ban ar that he wants refurbished. Has been locked up for years and wants to start shooting it. I looked it over and it doesn't look too bad. But my concerns are that in order to referb it does he have to make it compliant. Thanks...

Hello all was just surfing at armslist PSA classic lpk 60 bucks is that a good price? Anyone anyone.....thanks
  17. No there wasn't alot of difference in weight. I don't have the exact weight but I held one in each hand when I was looking at them....as I said it's a 2 piece so you do not have to remove the front sight base/gas block...

  19. Hey 70gto bought that stag upper from you a while back. Sears parking lot in Watchung. I looked at the Battlecomp but I went with the Spikes Dynacomp has a bit of a bark but as far as keeping the muzzle on target it works NICE.... your close enough we can meet up and you can take a look at it or we could head up to the range and try it out.......
  20. Have you looked at the Troy MRF free float rails they are a 2 piece rail that use the original barrel nut. The only thing you would need to remove is the Delta ring pack and the the front handguard retainer...you wouldn't have to remove the FSB or the muzzle brake. Nice and solid doesn't move I've used 2 of them on my own builds.....hope this helps. Good luck....but the way I did look at the MI rails but the side by side the Troy was a lot nicer
  21. Heeded Haaaaaaa..... just kidding I really like it although its not like it used to be....becoming wayyyyy to commercial but I understand it takes alot of money to be competitive.....years ago when I worked in a body shop my boss was into Dirt modifieds Lincoln auto body out of Middlesex. He's had some good drivers like the late Doug Hoffman and Jimmy Horton....all you old time NASCAR followers remember him. The only driver to flip a stock car off the Talladega speedway...... was lucky enough to meet them and bang out some fenders....East Windsor was the bomb!!!!! I was a big Rusty Wallace fan and my dad loved Earhart Sr..... God speed Dale...... I still follow the Penski teams but its not the same...as for an underdog Kurt Busch......I think he will be back......been to Dover a few times Pocono and the Glen would like to see Daytona and Bristol though.......hey have a great time nothing better than burning rubber and the smell of racing fuel........GO 2.........
  22. Nice job...last year was my first hunt and I took my first deer at 48 yards dropped her where she stood.I was using the 100 gr. Swackers holly crap did it work.... went all the way through and opened her up like a can of worms.....was looking into the Rage and my buddie swears by his Muzzy MX4s but he was impressed with the Swackers lam going to stick with them but I would like to try the 125s...good hunting brother....
  23. +++100 on the boots. Last year was my first hunt and there is a learning curve.....cold wet feet will ruin your entire day. I found out the hard way lol.....good luck brother and have fun....
