  1. I've read / heard about some of the issues with the 10mm and same with their spotty customer service but since I'm not looking at the 10mm and I've read / heard of stories of people who had problems, sent gun in and had gun back with problem resolved I'm willing to role the dice a little and hope I never have to find out for myself how good or bad their customer service is.
  2. Really looking at the steel versions. Don't know why but "guns" and "plastic" just don't seem to fit for me right now. Also, since conceal carry is virtually impossible in the Peoples Republic of NJ I'm not concernced about the additional weight. Maybe one day I'll look a the "plastic fantastics"....maybe one day soon.
  3. Hope you start feeling better soon. Keep me posted on an alternative shootout date. Had a great time time....just ask Zek. Still grinning almost 12 hours later!
  4. I shoot in Easton at Heritage Guild & EFGA. Seriously considering the EAA Witness Match in 9mm or 45. Have never held or shoot one so was wondering if I could meet someone who has one to take it for a test drive. If you have one but can't meet me please feel free to let me know how you like or dislike your's. Slickguns.com has them for about $550 delivered. Like the option of being able to buy several conversion kits for the frame & have heard they are good, accurate shooters.
  5. Actually no. I just have a ridicously overactive imagination.
  6. This is too easy....."Honey, I'll be out quite a few hours Saturday morning looking for your birthday gift."....... Another one....find an excuse today or tomorrow to drive her car. Upon returning ask her if she has noticied that one of her tires has developed what appears to be a small leak. You'll take it to the tire shop early Saturday morning for her to get it patched. Afterwards you may need to run a few errands to pick up some things at Home Depot. The tire store was really, really busy and you had to wait several hours.....and then man, was it packed at the one HD so you went to the other one a little further away. Let me know if you need any more too tuck away for future use.....
  7. Slugdog beat me to it. CZ 75 for about $500 is a tack driver. I shot one Sig (226 I think) and it was okay. Shot a buddies CZ 75 SP-01 and it was like the gun was MADE FOR ME. Purchased the base 75B and couldn't be happier. Read up on CZs, try one out and save close to $500. They may not look as nice or as sexy as a SIG but they are incredibly accurate shooters with a solid, worlwide reputation. If u shoot in Easton I can let you try mine some time.
  8. When I picked up my CZ 75 from Monmouth Arms they had a nice looking Lady Smith and Wesson 38. If she is looking for small, concealable, easy to use revolver it could do the trick. Nice looking gun as well. Monmouth Arms is a forum vendor (scroll to the bottom of the forums). Give Steve a call or PM him. If you don't care about concealable or carrying and are on a budget, look at the .357 Ruger GP100. She could run 38s through it and with it's sturdy build and weight it would practically have no recoil (in a 4 inch barrel). As far as renting guns, that can get expensive real quick. I'm sure some forum members would love to share their guns and let you try them out or if you have a general idea of what you want (as one forum member posted...think it was OldDog) just buy it. If you absolutely hate it, sell it and buy something else. Your "loss" in selling the gun would still be cheaper than renting several guns, purchasing ammo and range time. Ask me how I know.......I spent close to $300 renting several different guns trying to decide what I should get. I ended up purchasing one of the first guns I read about (Ruger GP100 but in .327 Federal Magnum) and I never rented it....but I did have quite a bit of fun! Young lady tried out my revolver this weekend while at the range. I was running .32s through it (just like shooting 38s out of .357) and she loved it. She thought it had about the same (maybe even less) recoil than the .22 semi she had just tried before. Good luck!
  9. Picked up some Hoppes Elite yesterday while picking up some ammo for my trip out to EFGA. Gave the Hoppes #9 to a buddy to use. Have to look into the Frog Lube.
  10. 1st & only time I ever shot an AK (about 20 years ago). Friend had it all tripped out (nice stock, scope, tripod, etc). I had never looked through a scope before so I got nice and close....pulled the trigger...BAM, thing kicked like a mule and the scope cut me right over my eyebrow. Only hurt a little....think my pride hurt more. Since getting into firearms on my own (past six months), only my wallet has been injured (thank God). Actually, not totally true. While trying to figure out which gun I I wanted I went to the range to rent a few guns. I wanted to rent an SR9 but it was rented so rented the SR40 and a Ruger SP101. Ran 50 rounds of .40 caliber, 50 rounds of .38s and 50 rounds of .375. Shot all that in about 45 minutes or so. Skin between my thumb and index finger was rubbed raw (I was probably limp wristing). RO asked how I liked the guns. Told him the sight on the Ruger was a bit hard to see and thought I would have shot a little better (think it was 3 inch barrel). He recommned next time I try the 6 inch S&W 357 Magnum (686 Plus). I thought, "When am I going to get up here again!?, and just rented it with another box of .38 and another box of .357. Litterally rubbed the skin off the webbing of my hand! And yes, it hurt.
  11. I cleaned it in my spare bedroom / computer room wth the window open. Wife and youngest daughter can smell it in next bedroom. I'm in the computer room now inhaling deeply, smiling and typing away.....
  12. Well, that was easy! Probably not a big deal for many but I thought it was going to more difficult. Cleaned my CZ 75B that I purchased used from Gunbroker. It's been to the range twice since I purchased and I thought I better get this thing cleaned! I don't know if most semis are this easy to clean but I have to say it was A LOT less intimidating than I thought it would be. I'm a little impressed (and maybe a little high off the Hoppes #9 Cleaner) with myself right now. Definetly going to have to purchase some of the low odor Hoppes.
  13. Thanks, I've been interested in the Taurus brand but haven't read much about them yet. Look forward to reading the review.
  14. Seriously thinking of.getting a .22 now and maybe a 1911 next year. I have heard nothing but good things about the Buckmarks and will check them out.
  15. Thanks for the offer but won't be able to make to EFGA until 1ish. Not interested in concealed carry at this time.
  16. Thanks OGFarmer. Probably heading to EFGA on Sunday around 1ish. I would love to try it out if you will be there.
  17. Just gotten into shooting recently. Have a revolver (Ruger GP 100) and a hammer fired semi-automatic (CZ 75B 9mm) and have one permit left. Thinking about perhaps getting a striker fired gun. Would mostly be a range gun and back up to HD revolver. Want to keep the price reasonable (and the wife reasonably happy) by keeping the price under $500 if possible. Is it possible to find a well built and accurate striker fired pistol in this price range? Some thinks I've been considering are: Ruger SR9 - most affordable ($400ish), I have rented and was fairly accurate with range rental gun. I like my Ruger revolver but the SR9 just doesn't seem to get much love. I know they had some problems when they first came out years ago but as I understand it those have been resolved. S&W MP9 - mid range price ($450 -$550). Also have rented and was also fairly accurate with the range rental. Most everyone seems to love them. Walther PPQ - upper price range ($550 - $600). Haven't fired one but held one and fits my hand very well (I have small hands). Have read they are very smooth and have an excellent trigger out of the box. I know a lot of people are going to say GLOCK!! I'm not dead set against them but quite honestly I find them rather confusing....too many numbers! (Glock 17, 23, 27... hike, hike!!) and what generation it is (Gen 3, Gen 4, etc, etc). I'm also thinking about perhaps getting a .22. Would mostly be for when I take people to shoot how have never fired a gun before or taking my wife and kids shooting. Would probably be a Ruger Mark "something"....probably a III. Also the Beretta 92FS is on my radar but will probably have to wait as it is more expensive. Like what I have read about how the slide functions in a similar manner to my CZ (rides inside the rail). I've read this is supposed to improve/help with accuracy and if my CZ is any indication of this it is pretty true. I shoot my CZ much, much better than my GP100. I also like the new Ruger SR1911...incredible looking gun but it is up there in price (for me) and a .45 (more expensive to shoot). Will have to also wait a bit for that one. Too many guns, too few dollars! LOL. So should I get another 9 in striker fired or go with a .22? Newbies I take to the range with me can always shoot .32s out of my GP100 (it's a .327 Federal Magnum). They "almost" feel like shooting 22s!
  18. That is rough but I would explain to her that you would still like her to go on the family trip with you. Explain that she doesn't have to go shooting, that yiu won't even talk about firearms with her but that you value the time it would allow you and she to spend together. Let her know how much you miss seeing her and spending quality time with her. If she goes on the trip make plans to do something that she is interested in and spend time with her. Don't let guns come between the relationship of you and your daughter. Good luck.
  19. Don't let the fact that it comes with 18 round mags stop you from getting the gun. The mags are non-compliant but the gun is not. Either: A. Have seller keep the non-compliant mags and ship just the gun. Go purchase compliant mags prior to picking up gun. B. Find FFL that will pin mags for you and have it shipped as is. So what if you have to travel a little to an FFL that will do this for you. You'll meet at least one interesting person at the FFL's place of business and maybe even chat with some other customers and meet more than one interesting person! I did B. Was charged $10 per mag ....valuable of meeting knowledge FFL, priceless. I Congrats on your purchase.
  20. For 9mm you should also look at CZ 75B .....You've probably never heard of it (I know until a few months ago I never had!) but ask around and you'll quickly hear nothing put praise and admiration. I have heard good thinks about the Beretta's but never fired one......yet. Good luck and come to the Shoot Gun Shoot Out in Cinton on October 12th! See the "Meet Up & Events" topic/subject. Lots of fun!
  21. Is this going to be an investment gun or one you actually intend to shoot? If you are going to shoot it on a regular basis then I would get the regular model, which is a nice looking gun, donate the $100 to the foundation, and spend the savimgs on ammo.
  22. I updated my initial post to inquire how far (time wise) you are from where you shoot. Assuming the closer you are to range the more you shoot. Being a newer shooter I think I average about every other week. Takes me about 50 minutes or so from my front door to range. Have really enjoyed meeting a lot of new people during my re-introduction to shooting!
