If you remove the barrel, does a round drop into the chamber freely?

Rather than talking about the rounds, I meant with an empty CZ can you feel any resistance when manipulating the slide? When I slowly let my slide forward on my CZ75B I can feel slight resistance just before the slide clears the top of the hammer. I can also feel a drop off of resistance as the ramp in the locking lug starts to ride up the slide stop pin.

I have to get some of the dumb questions out of the way first. Did you try more than 1 round from different lots? Does it do this every time? How did it do this? ie. did you seat a mag and slingshot it? Drop the slide from the slide catch? Baby the slide forward by hand? Do you feel any thing hanging up or binding without a round present? What work did CGW do?
  4. You need a pistol permit for a pistol. Any firearm that is not a pistol can be bought with your FPIC. I am assuming you are talking about the non-NFA other firearms. If you are buying just an AR lower receiver that you intend to build into a pistol there is some debate about whether you need a pistol permit at that point. It is pretty moot as it is incredibly hard to build an NJ legal AR pistol.
  5. If you shoot major matches, use brass cased. Not because the cheaper stuff won't work, but because the safety officers in the pit volunteered to run the match for you to shoot (and often spent their own money on a hotel for a night or two) and they get only the brass as reward. Don't be a cheap bastard - at least leave brass cases behind at a match.
  6. You can - but depending on the lighting you may not see much. You can also wear sunglasses in a night club, if you really want to. Seriously though, Oakley do make a range of safety glasses suitable for shooting - but not all their models are rated for that so check the specific pair you want to wear. They are available in a range of tints from clear, through to dark suitable for use in the sunshine.
  7. For the class just run what you brung.
  8. A second class. Aug 29th is still going on as scheduled.
  9. There have been a couple of people who have asked about a different date. Would either of Sept 13 or Sept 27 work for you?
  10. Inner/outer belts are not legal in IDPA. Your belt must pass through all but 2 belt loops on your pants. I don't insist on it in my class, but expect to be told about it every time you used it at a club match and expect to earn an equipment DQ at tier 2 matches and above. The number of mags you need depends on the division you're shooting. SSP, ESP & CO have a division capacity of 10. If you're running Jersey legal mags life is easier if you have 4 but you can get by with 3. You'll need 2 mag pouches.
  11. I have so many other things on my plate, this will probably be the only class this year. I'll see what I can do for next year. Also, there is 1 spot left - grab it soon if you want it.
  12. Jesus H. Tap Dancing Christ!
  13. For 124gn FMJ brass case I would have been happy paying 18-19c per round. Reloaded ammo would be cheaper. Currently, I'm not buying at the inflated prices.
  14. I would say you would be on thin ice in that situation. A residence is somewhere that you live. Common usage does not equate that with somewhere you sleep while temporarily visiting.
  15. Prices are going crazy
  16. First step is to check which eye and hand is dominant. If they are cross dominant (right hand/left eye or left hand/right eye) they are almost certainly going to prefer handgun over rifle. After that, just cover the essential safety points and get them shooting ASAP. Don't even go over all the controls on the gun at first. Load for them - 1 round for the first shot in a semi auto - and let them pick it up and fire it. If you belabor all the fine details before they even fire a shot they will glaze over and you'll be wasting your time.
  17. It isn't limited to hearing protection. It's a mild jab at the people who think that upgrading a trigger, or a new set of sights, or a whole new gun will upgrade their shooting ability. It doesn't and it won't. If you learn to shoot well with a spongey striker fired gun (Glock, M&P, etc.) or a long double action revolver you will shoot guns with easier triggers even better. If you skip learning on the hard stuff, you'll only be able to shoot the easy stuff.
  18. Nope. The amount of money you spend on equipment trying to acquire ability is inversely proportional to your actual gains in that ability. You're very generous. Thank you.
  19. I use Otto Noizebarrier Micro. They are pricey, but work brilliantly. I can wear them all day at a match without discomfort. They lock down really fast and do not have an excessive delay to opening up again. https://www.otto-comm.com/NoizeBarrierMicro
  20. Don't over think this. This is a class on how to start competing in IDPA. It is not an IDPA match. If you only have a USPSA style inner/outer belt bring it and use it. Save the equipment rules for when it matters - in an actual match. Guess what else - even if you bring a concealment garment I will not be letting you use it.
  21. It's not much in the way of exercise - I've had a guy over 400lb complete the class. IDPA actually has rules limiting how far a stage can require a competitor move.
  22. Glock mags do not fit in the ones sized for M&P ans Sig. Glock mags are fatter due to the plastic sleeve over the metal. I have single versions of those for Glock I can bring. Any IWB holster is legal for IDPA so long as it is on the strong side hip. No small of back or appendix allowed. Yes, it is rain or shine. I'll have my pop-up for some shelter, but if rain is forecast don't bring your all steel family heirloom.
  23. SERPA holsters are not banned by IDPA. Some IDPA clubs have banned them at the local level, but it is not global. I discourage their use but do allow them. If I see your finger curling during your draw - we will be having words. What gun do you run? I may have an alternative holster for you.
  24. Don't jump the gun (pun intended). You're shooting a Glock 9mm - I have a variety of mag pouches I can loan you and you can see if you like them. The ALS holster will be fine too - I used to run them all the time.
  25. Thanks Ed. It will depend on how many sign up. I have 2-3 other SOs standing by.
