  1. How to build an AR-15 in three easy steps. 1 Decide what your rifles purpose in life will be 2) Select the best barrel you can afford (even if you have to save up) and buy it, 3) Build your rifle around the barrel. You need to select a caliber, chamber, length, profile, twist rate, material and gas system. Once you have that nailed down, the rest of the build will go easier because now you have a starting point. I find it very useful to keep a notebook so I can track what barrel I saw on what site and the price. Then I hit the search engines looking for reviews and forum write ups. I recommend a medium or heavy profile barrel 18" or 20" with a Wylde chamber and a 1:8 twist. Cold hammer forged barrels are great if they are properly stress relieved, beware of cheap CHF barrels though. Stainless steel is very popular among precision rifle builders. Long range shooters prefer a rifle length gas system because it apparently mitigates recoil a little bit. If you go with an 18" bbl you can go with either mid length gas system or rifle length. For a precision rifle you want a precision stock. I'm a fan of fixed stocks for rifles and suggest looking at the ACE ARFX Skeleton stock. The LOP on these stocks can be modified with permanently attached butt plates Whether you go fixed or adjustable collapsible, you are looking at $100 to $300 for a really good stock.
  2. I need a little help here. I'm putting together a Christmas gift basket for my mother with Balvene 18 y/o (Speyside) and Aberlour 18 y/o (Islay) scotches and need some ideas for tasty snacks that pair well. Since the two scotches are different I'd imagine that what goes well with one may not necessarily go with the other. I was thinking smoked oysters, black caviar and cocktail toast. I'm not a scotch drinker but I have tasted it. It seems like they would go well. That's not enough though, I want to really stuff the basked so I need some more ideas. This is where you come in. What's your favorite kibbles n bits with scotch. One caveat though, it has to come in a tin or a jar and have a long shelf life or be otherwise non-perishable.
  3. Good choice on that GP, on the S&W too. I had an opportunity to shoot the 617 4" last year, it felt good in the hand and shot very nice.
  4. I know. I was just pulling your leg for a chuckle . Bulls Eye Tactical Supply in Edison.
  5. Well, it's going to be a gift but I'll ask my friend after he opens it on christmas if you can borrow it.
  6. BO is laying the groundwork for a post presidency career with Bloomberg (or some other anti-2A group). BO will go on to make hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of dollars in the anti-2A industry.
  7. This is not going to pass. If it did though, there would be an explosion in 3D printing.
  8. PSA blems are a gamble. Last year I bought one that looked great, not a blem to be found. However, it was out of spec. The diameter of the opening where you mount the barrel was a few hundredths of an inch too wide. Non-returnable so I was boned. They may all come from three forges and look more or less the same, but there is a world of difference in the machining.
  9. Lowes had a crappy inexpensive light in a nice sturdy belt loop holder. I bought it and chucked the light in the junk drawer. Next time you are in Lowes or HD have a look around, you may get lucky.
  10. Rave reviews of the Mossberg SR are few and far between. At best, it is a three star gun, and that's only if you're lucky enough to get one of the good ones. I wanted so badly for it to be a decent gun because it isn't half bad looking and it felt pretty good on my shoulder.
  11. ^ What he said. The Republicans could run one of those water drinking bird toys against the dems and still win. Anyone remember the "Boggle Chicken" from King of the Hill. Boggle Chicken could beat Hillary.
  12. It's a last minute christmas gift so on-line ordering is out unless I want to pay a premium for shipping (which I dont ).
  13. Can anyone tell me if any shops in Monmouth Ocean or Middlesex counties carry Glock cleaning mats with the exploded view printed on the mat? Thanks
  14. Agreed. In fact, if I was a mod I would remove (moderate) the hijack altogether (including this post) and move on, in the right direction.
  15. I would not use "on OUR forum", it is an exclusionary statement.

    PTAC parts?

Some time around March of this year I bought a PTAC LPK for a budget build. A little rough around the edges but it works.
  17. We winterized and packed up the landscaping business last Friday. Over the weekend, a couple (good) customers called and asked if we were coming again. Looks like we'll be unpacking some equipment today.
  18. I wouldnt pay that much but god bless the ones who do, they are pushing the envelope.
  19. Welcome to the forum. For basic entry level AR's have a look at Ruger's AR-556 and the S&W M&P Sport. Both basic and proven reliable. If you will be shooting mainly 55gr and 62gr milsurp I'd go with the M&P with a 1:9 twist. If you plan to shoot 55gr and heavier bullets, up to 75gr then I'd go with Ruger's AR-556 with a 1:8 twist. Where did you hear about njgf?
  20. Yes, of course it conjures images of foaming at the mouth gun owners.
