  1. I was holding off on ordering more mags until this bill got vetoed, yanno, just in case. But c'mon, we all pretty much knew it was going to happen. So I ordered three classic straight 20rd (pinned to 15) mags for my AR today. It would have been more but I also bought some other stuff. I'll probably pick up some more after I get paid next week. I wonder if there was a surge in orders for 15rd mags yesterday and today.
  2. I have a Redfield mounted with a crappy Truglo one piece on the rifle at the moment. The Truglo mount was supposed to be for the Shorty. I took it off and measured it from the bottom of the mount where it meets the rail to the tube. It's just under 1 inch. With the Leupold riser and medium Weaver rings the combined height should be just about 1.044 inches. Just a hair more than the Redfield/Trugol set up. The Shorty forty has long eye relief so it wont get in the way of the CH and should have plenty of clearance when I get around to adding a BUIS. heh, I just realized something. I have a great scope with a crappy mount on it now and I'm putting on a great mount with a crappy scope in a few days. My .243 rifle wants it's Redfield back. So, that's what I settled on. We'll see how it works out when all the parts come in next week.
  3. According to Leupold, the Riser mount is .764" high and 5.52" long. It is cantilevered and extends beyond the receiver. As you can see it can extend over the barrel by about four slots and a bit. Unfortunately Weaver does not provide a detailed diagram with dimensional specs. I can only assume that the measurements on the Midway site are for the base to the saddle, i.e. measurement B as depicted in your image. The objective bell is 50mm with an additional 2 or 3 mm for the AO adjustment ring.
  4. I'm having a devil of a time working out what ring height to use with my scope. The scope is a Sun Optics Shorty Forty compact scope 3-9x40AO with a 1" tube. I will be mounting it to a cantilever Leupold Mk 1 IMS mount, which will then be mounted to my flattop. The height of the Leupold mount is .764 inches. I'll be using Weaver Tactical four hole skeleton rings with the following options for height. 1" Medium: .280" 1" High: .400" 1" Extra-High: .520" 1" Ultra-High: .640 Ideally the overall height would be on par with the Burris PEPR mount, which btw was my first choice but the scope is too compact to fit on that mount. There is only 3.25 inches from bell to bell on the Shorty which really complicated matters. Thanks for your input.
  5. At that price it's available for hours instead of minutes. It prevents the disgusting gluttonous hoarders from grabbing all of it. That alone is enough justification. Is it the best price? Certainly not, but it's better than what people were paying a year ago, and more importantly it is available. I almost never buy just ammo. Usually I piggyback ammo purchases with other things so it's not a bad deal for me. Especially with gas prices approaching $4.00/gal and 7% sales tax. People are so stuck on the price per round that they forget the other expenses associated with buying ammo in Newjerseystan.
  6. It may not be the best deal for hoarders but for those with no ammo who live 50 miles from the closest sporting goods store, maybe not such a bad deal.
  7. Get 'em while there hot. 8. So the WMA secret code for "okay to shoot rim fire and air rifle" is muzzle loader. Got it.
  9. Well, I guess they just lost the business of all the street gangs.
  10. I am a member at R-14 but was looking for something a bit closer to shoot .22 only, R-14 is almost an hour drive. I also have a hunting license. I've not renewed it in almost 20 years but renewal would not be a problem for me if there was a range that I could use for free to shoot a .22. What free ranges where .22 is allowed are open to people with a hunting license?
  11. Yeah, sorry about that. I'm just a little out of sorts after attempting to sift through all the NJ WMA regulations. It's like they have intentionally made them unclear.
  12. Thank you capt. obvious. I've already read that several times over. It mentioned nothing about the ranges at those locations for rim fire/air rifle being opened or closed. In fact, it makes no reference at all. I used to shoot there, like 20 years ago, they were popular places. The Turkey Swamp website only mentions archery. But I know there is/was a rim fire range there too. However, there is no mention of it in the brochure nor can I find anything via google about the rimfire range still being open or if it has closed. How about this. Does anyone have recent first hand experience shooting at Assunpink and/or Turkey Swamp?
  13. As I recall, one could go to Assunpink and shoot skeet and rifle and at Turkey Swamp shoot rim fire and air rifles. Is this still true? I know Assunpink has adopted a non-lead policy but seem to still allow shotgun. Anyway, can one still shoot at the WMAs ? I tried to look it up but the info is not very clear to me..
  14. My rifle is not an exact MK12 clone, I just call it an SPR since it's what the specs closest resemble. The AK slant brake is offset to the left or right depending on how the shooter is handed. The Slant breaks for AR's are not offset.
  15. To be clear. I am not asking how to attach a brake engineered for an AK-47 to an AR. What I am looking for is info on brakes styled after the AK slant brake design, but engineered specifically for the AR. I am a minimalist. I will not be attaching a fancy brake/comp to my SPR. As it stands now I am going with a simple thread protector but looking into other muzzle devices that may offer better crown protection.
  16. Has anyone here used an AK style slant break on an AR? If so, what was your experience.
  17. Lawnboy 2 cycle mowers last forever. There's a reason the equipment rental places use them almost exclusively. They are also more fuel efficient. If you are going to buy a Honda mower, buy a Honda mower, not one with a Honda engine. I bought a Troy Built with a Honda engine and it's crap. You might also consider buying a used commercial mower with a 36" deck. Small enough to fit through gates, big enough to cut your mowing time in half (or less). If your gates are 48" or bigger, then go bigger. If you can afford it, get a hydro, if not then belt drive is fine too but prone to slipping if cutting tall wet grass. No matter what trimmer you get, get one with a straight shaft. For the amount of trimming you will do, electric will probably be fine but I'd still recommend a gas powered trimmer.
  18. I am mad for flashlights, have been since I was a kid. From small key chain flashlights to battery powered lanterns, I've got a bunch. I never go out after dark without one (or two). I find the cheap dollar store clip on flashlights very handy. My battery killing mag lights are sitting in a kitchen cabinet with spare batteries still in the blister packs just in case but now my new favorite is the Duracell lights I got at Costco. They are the single high output LED type, the 500 lumen lights have a square beam when focused, it's weird but extremely bright. There are at least three flashlights in every room with one being the plug in emergency type that goes on automatically when the power goes out.
  19. Why green tip? A) Because it's cheap and will probably shoot best for under 40 cents per round in my 1:8 Wylde barrel, no other reason. B) It took me about 10 months to buy all the parts to build my AR. The way I figured is I'll be using way more ammo at the range compared to my bolt gun. So every time I placed an order for a part, I usually piggyback an ammo purchase whenever the ammo was on sale to keep the cost down. I'm pinching pennies till they scream.
  20. Doing the repair yourself may be easier than you think. Check out YT for how to videos. Also, you may not need to replace the seals. I've had the seals on my Crosman pump dry up twice because of neglect. I oiled it up and let it sit for about a week and the seals returned to functional condition.
  21. What's your favorite economy rifle, shotgun or handgun ammo for the range,. Currently, for the range, I shoot PPU 100gr and 90gr in my Ruger American .243 and am stocking up on 5.56 62gr green tips. Have not been out to shoot the AR yet. The .243 PPU ammo can be had for as little as $12/box of 20 and the green tips I'm getting for between 35 and 38 cents per round.
  22. IMHO.... Shoot your AR with iron sights first, then graduate to a red dot or reflex, then move up to a scope. PA and Nikon both offer excellent value in optics. Bushnell optics are garbage these days but their red dots are actually very good for the money.
  23. As inexpensive range fodder, either will be fine. If you are looking for long range accuracy, then you need to do some reading. There are thousands of articles on the net addressing your question.
  24. I'd rather see a republican buffoon in office than a democrat buffoon. You cant always get what you want, but sometimes you get what you need....or something like that.
  25. Yesterday, I did my own research on the 74 school shootings and I'm glad some of the media is picking up on the fact that Everytown really stretched the truth. In some cases I could not find a news story, or any other information, associated with some of the events published on their website. In other cases the shooting took place in close proximity to a school but did not involve any students or school staff. One example of the school shootings was actually a gang violence issue that precipitated from a confrontation over a weekend and carried over to the following Monday where a student (gang member) was shot and injured by another gang member as he exited the school. Some of the stories about the shootings were legit, and that was troubling. Equally disturbing is that our government is not doing anything to addresst the root cause of gun violence. Gangs, drugs, illegal immigration, joblessness, these and many other factors are all related but the govt will not do anything about it because doing so would likely offend the voters. EDIT: Even though CNN is calling Everytown out on the figure, they are also stretching the truth a bit. In the below quoted text from CNN's site, you will see that the incident began at a residence and ultimately ended at a college campus. The suspect had no intention of this being a school shooting, it just happened to end up that way. If the cops had not chased the suspect, it's unlikely the suspect would have driven to the campus.
