  1. My buddy bought one for his wife. I have put a few hundred rounds through it. I like the mag release. Other than that its probably on par with other similar guns in its size range. I found that the trigger is very hard on my finger, accuracy was not good in my hands. If you shoot compacts well (i dont) than you may like it. I could keep it in the black at 15yds and that is probably fine for its intended purpose.

    Kimbers

Then you understand that any 1911 built that tight will have cycling issues until broken in. Most people shoot a 1911 for accuracy rather than a carry weapon. Almost any of the plastic guns is a better choice for EDC than a G1911. 90%+ of gun owners have very little understanding of the weapon they use. Kimber has produced more 1911's than any one else for several years. Simply by a numbers game they will likely have more issues. Most issues with any 1911 are caused by ammo choices. I have also seen problems with Beretta 92/96 series pistols, and they are known for reliability.
  3. My revolver experience is limited to the last 2 years. But, I have found that Gunzilla on a nylon bore brush does a great job and also helps reduce the amount of buildup. Works great on my XVR and 686+. I also use it for all my autos. Also if you reload, than reload your mag brass to light loads rather than using short brass. You will see better accuracy as well.

    Kimbers

I have pent my money on a Kimber and will do it again. At that price point I dont see better guns. I dont know how many of you judge quality of a machined instrument, or how much you actually know and understand about the inner working of your firearm other than what you see on a gun board or YouTube video. Kimber make the slide tighter than most other manufacturers. If you dont finish fitting it with a lapping compound or allow it 500 or so rounds to break in than you will not be happy. Most people who dont like them dont shoot 500rnd in a lifetime. Guys who like them, shoot them a lot. They also make the slides and frames for Wilson and many other manufacturers, less hand fitting and finishing.
  5. Glad to hear its opening back up this week. Great people and a nice place to shop. I agree with others that its a little expensive. I dont think that Bob is getting rich off of it Its the cost of running such a business. Im sure that insurance is pretty high on that range.
  6. Thank you for all the info and suggestions. I picked up a couple of cases of GF soups from progresso that she likes as well as some GF ramen packs. We are planning a garden and going to start canning this year, so that will add to our small stash. Im not a "prepper" by any stretch, but I think that an ounce of prevention is wise in all cases. For those of you who do not know. Celiac is a condition in which the hairs (thats tech talk) in your intestine are irritated by gluten. It causes gas, diarrhea, vomiting in the short term. The bigger effect is that once those hairs are damaged they do not absorb nutrients. People with undiagnosed celiacs will have many problems associated with poor nutrition. My daughter got e. coli when she was 6 y/o and its thought that is what brought on the celiacs.
  7. Any machine shop can easily pin and weld the pin for you as long as its not connected to the rest of the rifle. Should be able to do in 1/2 hour. $50 cash. Pretty sure (but check for yourself) that there is no problem having the threaded barrel and break shipped to you. Its illegal when attached to the receiver. Until that point its just a pipe.
  8. Sorry if this is in the wrong area, not sure if it fits under hunting or general. I am trying to organize a food drive for victims of Sandy along the Delaware bay coast. I have heard of issues with other charity organizations doing the same or similar drives. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of how to go about this? My wife works as a counselor for Inspira Health and they have grants to set up several commercial freezers in the area to store the game/fish as a food bank for the residents who are still effected by the storm. If you familiar with areas like Money Island, Fortescue, Port Norris, Bivalve, Gandys Beach you understand what these people are going through.
  9. Thank you for the generous offer. I just got the thing together last night using the shim stock and a LC Nato cartridge for headspace. I need to find a few minutes to get to a range and see what it will do. I dont expect cycle or safety issues. My only concern is accuracy. I figure I wont know until I get about 100rnds down the pipe. I will post up a pic or 2 on the "show us your AR thread"
  10. Vlad G- I agree with you 100% about rifles being built in that manner. But, im a machinist and precision is important to me. As far as safe firing I have been told by a smith that I can use a 5.56 cartridge and .003 and .006" shim stock for go no/go respectively. That should get me shooting and then I can work on pulling in the accuracy of the gun if need be.
  11. I dont think the report is fair and accurate. I live In Buena Borough. 2001 we were the friendliest town in NJ or Country or something. We have a sign and all
  12. I dont have a set of headspace gages and I havent even been able to find a matching brand in stock anywhere. I should have my barrel in hand next week to make with the BCG I have. I am told that I can check headspace with a quality nato round and .003" "GO" then .005" "NO-GO" shim stocks cut to fit inside the bolt face. I am fairly sure that this is a fine practice for building a safe rifle. I am building a accurate rifle (I hope). I am in Vineland if anyone wants to loan, rent, sell a set of gages for 5.56 How much will headspace effect accuracy as long as its within safe limits?
  13. You hit the nail on the head. If the neighbor wasnt finding pellets in his garage wall the police would likely never have been called. Of coarse the other issue sticks out here. Why wouldnt you go talk to your neighbor? The same applies to the police. Why waste the time and money to arrest and prosecute this guy. Knock on the door "hey buddy,. if someone was shooting a pellet gun her it would be illegal, make sure its not happening". Handled
  14. I would agree for the most part. But, kids like the novelty of MRE's. Plus they take up very little room. The canned goods are a great idea also. GenMills has several soups that are RTE and GF that she already eats on a fairly regular basis. I will just up the stock by a case or 2 the next time SR has a CanCan sale.
  15. My daughter has celiac and cant have gluten. For her a regular MRE would be as bad as anyone else drinking contaminated water. Im by no means a prepper but I dont feel that having some kind of contingency plan for at least a short term food supply for her is prepping. So I would like to know if anyone has an idea where I can buy a few gluten free MREs to have tucked away. Would be nice to have even in a road trip situation.
  16. A little off topic. But close. My son moved out of state for college and likely will not move back. He moved prior to 18y/o so he never had a NJ FID. Can I deliver his guns to him (they are in my name) in NC and give them to him? This is as far as NJ laws are concerned. I will check NC laws to confirm its legal there. I doubt there is a problem with NC law.
