Bob D 0 Posted November 22, 2010 I recently purchased go,no-go,and field headspace guages for my M1 Garand. (30-06) As per the instructions, I removed the extractor & the ejector from the bolt. To measure headspace correctly, do I re-install the stripped bolt and manually close it on the gauges "without" the operating rod and spring installed; or should the entire gun be reassembled? Also, when the No-go and Field gauges are installed, where should I be looking to determine that the bolt is not fully closed? Thanks
usnmars 136 Posted November 22, 2010 I would pop it in with just the stripped bolt and op rod. Tou should be able to feel the bolt not close all the way.
