I have heard that it is possible to get an exemption from the 31 day waiting period. I purchased a handgun and then sold it within a day or so (impulse buy-did not fit my hand at all)-

I am still required to wait the 31 days because the purchase went through fully and the permit was used. However, I have heard that it is possible to get an exemption-is this true?

with thanks in advance

Yes you do have to wait the 30 days, using the day after the sale as you first day in the count.

The exemption is something you can get, but that's for multiple gun purchases as if you were a collector or another reason that meets the requirements. It doesn't cover a situation like you posted.
