  1. This feeds on the "CSI Effect" where people think forensics is magical. Here's NSSF on the subject: https://www.nssf.org/articles/the-moronic-myths-of-microstamping/ There is some truth to ballistic fingerprinting in general, but it usually only works when you already have both the intact bullet and the gun it was fired from at the scene. In this case, at best it would lead to a partial match of a registered gun to a shell casing. Shell casings don't kill people, bullets do. I don't see how this can ever work as evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The real motivation is additional handgun database/registry and driving up production costs to be prohibitive for sale or manufacture. How do people even follow this law if you wanted to? What do you do if you need a new firing pin? If this technology was as benign as a frame serial number, I doubt anyone would oppose it. But it isn't.
  2. Statistically speaking, this is the deadliest weapon I own:
  3. Of course we're running low on gas when all the fossils are working for the government.
  4. Exactly. Even if you could, you shouldn't. If anyone sees you walking around with a rifle you might not live long enough to tell it to the judge.
  5. This is all great information, thank you so much! I got a box of M193 to try out. Will pick up some of the suggested HD if I ever come across it.
  6. Any "red flag" deal has to have an appeals process for me to take it seriously...
  7. I think it's on the firing pin and the breech. According to California law, it has to be in at least two places. I don't know if it's the same in NY, but it could become that way. Note: Kamala Harris is the person that cleared the ban to take full effect in California. In 2014, S&W and Ruger both announced they will stop selling new handguns in CA due to the ban.
  8. Exactly the problem. I dare anyone to find a single instance of this used to convict a violent criminal.
  9. Is it clear if that ban on sale of non-microstamped guns applies already? From the bill I gathered that there's setting up to examine the "viability" but I'm not clear on when it actually comes to force.
  10. Hey folks, So, I noticed M193 can be cheaper than the .223 Remington I've gotten. I have a 5.56 rifle and can shoot both. I think M855 is the "green tip", right? Is that something that can't be shot at indoor ranges? What about the M193, is that usually fine? Also, is anything better than others for home defense? I figure it can't hurt to have options for that for different guns.
  11. Oh for sure I'm seeing the usual social media spam move to "ban semi-automatic rifles!"
  12. Would it be something like this? Just hacked this together and could be wrong. Seems cool, haven't seen anything like it. Not a fan of the Shockwave to be honest, but this has a real vampire hunter vibe to it.
  13. 21+, License to own a semi-auto rifle: 90 days after it becomes a law (license must be recertified every five years) Body armor restriction: 30 days " " " " " The micro stamping seems confounded with other bills. It looks like it's setting up a task force to determine the technological viability of micro stamping and if it's found to be viable then different measures need to be taken within 1-2 years. It's not clear (to me) if the restriction on sales, transfers, etc. kick in then or not.
  14. Even if you can't, having something easy to grab at home in a pinch seems like a good idea. It's true, everything I have is Full Size. Variety is nice Revolvers are great. Though, I'm kind of sort of tempted towards a PPK because Bond. I'll get some inspiration from my LGS.
  15. I think they're all on their way to be signed. Here's the microstamping one I think: https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2021/S4116
  16. Hey All, So far I have a Beretta 92x, Canik Mete SFX, a couple of 1911s, a 357 revolver and a single six. I like them all in their own ways. How should I expand my horizons from here? Any fun or interesting ideas? Curious and makes for a positive topic
  17. Kind of. I feel like I drain half my tank quickly just getting lunch and groceries. Also, $20 used to mostly fill my tank... now it's just a quarter tank.
  18. License to own semi-automatic rifles Age to own a semi-automatic rifle raised to 21 Restrictions on Body Armor All new guns must have microstamping (like in CA) Is there a single instance of microstamping being used in the arrest or conviction of a violent criminal? We all know it's a de facto ban on new guns and cannot spread.
  19. Live a modest lifestyle, lock your doors.
  20. The Globe and Mail: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/editorials/article-a-ban-on-the-sale-of-handguns-its-about-time/ "Hunting Rifle" = good, everything else = bad. This is an opinion piece but will likely echo across Canadian media.
