+1 on Taurus being innovative and affordable. For example, I hear their 92FS clone is improved over the original. Ambi safety, etc. and it costs less than the original. Note, now guns too are being OEM'ed. So, find out who actually made the gun for a brand name! So far as I know, Taurus manufactures their own guns.

Hmmm. GP100 held its own? What does it mean? At fifth place? And why do so many people knock down Taurus (ranked high in this test)? Taurus is less expensive, and for a revolver they are decent quality (reliability is a given with a revolver ... no jams likely compared to a Pistol, for example). It all boils down to construction, precision, and trigger smoothness (i.e., lack of creep, travel delay, etc) I am considering a GP100 myself. GP-141 (~4"), blue, to be specific. I like the feel of the gun in my hand - balanced. Like all AR-15's aren't the same (like some sellers will say and try to convince you!), same is true of revolvers. Quality matters. For ARs, a LWRC isn't the same as a S&W M&P 15 series! LWRC is better, but of course more expensive. I like the GP100, but is the GP100 a good value, or should I plunk my money on Taurus or S&W? I want a bargain, as in, best for my money. I don't believe in the gunk and outdated "you get what you pay for". Those people don't know much about market economics. There are bargains to be had. I prefer, "you should do your own research to make sure you get what you pay for". Cheap is good and we should buy at the least price the product we want.

I didn't know FTF transactions in handguns were OK in NJ ... I haven't seen evidence this is legal. We know that in NJ, FID permits long gun purchases only (unlimited, but w/ NICS check everytime), but has no bearing on hand-gun purchase permit, which is completely separate. (e.g., One can have a FID, but may not have any handguns purchased.) If FTF transaction is indeed allowed in NJ, who informs (police) as to who owns the gun now at end of transaction? I know this is a police state (some call it commie even!).

Shotgun with rounds on the slide and stock ... innovative, (useful for a range, hunting), but that's not such a good idea at home. For HD, if you can't keep a gun loaded then you might as well keep it in a safe (and be able to open it quickly without fumbling). But, given there are kids around (your 1 year old), it's best to keep/hang a gun high enough that young kids can't get to (at least the little ones). Or you can install a simple shelf and keep the gun there (in bedroom, etc.) I keep my pump 12 GA shotgun loaded (not cocked) on top of a tall curio. The shotgun is best "served" with a 150+ lumens LED that can also strobe (very disorienting). btw. SIG makes a good light that's rail mounted and doubles as a vertical grip. (Found one for $200 in PA gun show. Was tempted to buy it (lists for almost $300), but resisted rightly ... I have 4 strong lights already!) I also keep a handgun in an electronic safe (w/ loaded mags, ready to go). (I don't trust biometrics, I know they are unreliable.) If anyone is in doubt, don't ever use a rifle for HD (though, a 9mm carbine (rifled) is a good standby alternative), more so in NJ with the stupid and ambiguous HD laws (even in your home). If you kill your threat is one thing (you can at least defend your action), but if your rifle round(s) goes through walls and kills the neighbor, then you have less strong a defense ... YMMV. Please note, the "castle doctrine" is not a "given" in NJ. With the law, you are on your own.

You paid $100. No nics, no tax ?? How come no NICs in NJ? Did you buy it at shore shot? (At this time, they have a GP100 listed for $550 and over.) In posted elsewhere that I am in the market for new/used one.

Hi, I am from Woodbridge, NJ, and would like to check out the range and become a member. I would like to visit the range on June 21 (tomorrow) and am wondering if I will get to use the range facilities the same day. Do I need another member to bring me in, or can I join on my own? Of course, I have NJ FID, and would like to use the indoor and outdoor range. Is there a phone # I can call to get answers?

As we know, Saiga 7.62x39 in stock form is perfectly legal in NJ. You can then modify it (from "Sporter" configuration) so long as you are compliant with 922 (focuses on US made parts) AND NJ laws. NJ laws are more restrictive than fed. In a nutshell this means one can make the following mods: (for in-depth do's/dont's details and discussion, check forum.saiga-12.com) - US made PG (forward mod; Tapco, etc) - US made HG (many choices with rails) - US made butt-stock (Tapco, K-VAR, etc) - US made Trigger Group (Tapco, etc.); fixes trigger slap as well - US made Muzzle-brake, welded (not threaded; should not be a flash hider!) - I bought a US made Tantal (clone) Brake - US made mags up to 15 rounds (Surefire / SGM makes them) - US made piston rod (Tapco, etc.) (As you can see, I am being cautious and more 922 compliant than I have to.) You can get very close to an AK-47 configuration, without the AK name on the receiver/barrel. I didn't find any good quality WASR-10's for a reasonable price. I am in the process of modifying my Saiga rifle. If in doubt, don't bother making the mods.
