  1. DOHHHHHHH I wish I knew I would totally go. But I fail and made plans already for tomorrow morning BOOOO
  2. any idea on the prices of .40s&w?
  3. I don't know if the prices are still the same. But I picked up my Remington 870 supermag for 250 out the door at gander mountain. 50 bucks more but its a proven shotgun and its new can't beat it if you ask me. I bought 6 months ago too btw.
  4. Ok, so I am trying to do all my research now so that I am ready when the season comes. I got my choke, I got my slugs now all I have left to do is make sure I am legal. My concern is this though. I am planning on using a smooth bore barrel on my Remington 870 super mag. Currently I only have the rail with the single round dot at the end of my barrel. Now I took this straight off of NJ's dep website. Shotgun must have an adjustable open iron or peep sight or a scope affixed if hunter is hunting with or in possession of slugs So what are my options for using the barrel that I have now and still staying legal. According to that, my only option is putting some form of a scope on my shotgun. Next question, how would I even go about getting a scope mounted on this barrel, I don't think I actually can. So does that mean I can't even use this barrel for deer hunting, I would have to go out and buy either a smooth bore barrel that has adjustable sights, or buy a rifled cantilever barrel. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks M
  5. haha its ok Dan. When I saw your post im like wait I know I'm not that good at math but that just doesn't look right. I was going to say, if you can reload em that cheap I'll give you all my hulls to reload.
  6. does anyone reload .40 s&w on here. Wondering if anyone would be interested in reloading some cases for me until my press comes I'm looking to order in the next couple weeks I gotta buy my rifle scope first. Also, any recommendations for a tumbler and cleaning supplies etc. I am going to borders etc this weekend to see if they actually carry any of the reloading manuals if not I'm going to order them from cabela's so I can start to do some hardcopy reading. Thanks M
  7. anybody have any experience with mounting scopes. Just trying to figure out the best way to go. If I buy it at a gunshop they said they would mount it for free for me so just trying to find out how hard it is to do. Also, does anyone have any recommendations on mounting hardware?
  8. LOL oh man that was good. My favorite line, "you don't have a problem with guns do you?" And then my next favorite line. "no they didn't havn't guns back then, but he probably would of carried a sword even tho he didn't need it." HAHAHA oh man that was a good interview
  9. So I officially don't like you Digs for making this thread. Now you got my head playing tricks on me. I was only going to buy the base model ruger 10/22 and you had to post this so now Im contemplating getting this now instead of the ruger and paying twice the price hmmmm the options ohhh the options
  10. I'm at minimum 2 years and a summer, its looking more like 3 years and a summer tho. I'm still young only 24, but I'm in my 5th year of college already and the thought of 3 more years just sucks as well. I've thought about transitioning into a landscape architecture degree. Theres two colleges in Maryland that are 30 and 45 minutes from where a friend lives who has already offered me free living so thats another possibility. But from the sounds of it, its between a 4 and 5 year degree so I'd be in the same boat or worse than I already am. The other crappy thing about architecture is you do 5 years of college, 3 years of an internship, then take your test. If you can't ever past the tests, you just spent 8 years of your life for nothing because in architecture without the license your not really worth that much. Luckily I am still young and I do have a lot of possibilities, its just narrowing down a possibility to what makes the most sense is the hard part. My biggest pet peve these days is sitting behind a desk. For the architecture that I want to be involved in, that is what I'm going to be doing minus one or two days outta the week when you go see clients. That whole idea just seems less appealing to me every day. I kinda want to find a job where I can be up moving around, outside a lot, not stuck sitting behind a desk. Ahhhh the wonders of growing up, just when you think you have it all figured out, theres always that friendly reminder, you don't know jack shit
  11. I'm very fortunate for where I work right now. I've been there for 5 years and I've pretty much gotten to do everything minus the EXTREMELY high end residential stuff. Not to get off topic but just a back ground. I work for a firm in Pompton Plains and we for the most part have designed everything that is at crystal springs. The most notable thing we didn't design was the hotel. If anyone is familiar with crystal springs, we did their clubhouse that won a NJ award and we've done pretty much all of their single family homes and condo's minus the ones they sold out to tollbrothers. So I've been able to work on little tiny additions for residential to little tiny renovations to commercial projects to huge additions for both to also brand new custom stuff. If you live in Vernon I feel sorry for you. I'm trying to bring a project to a close for them, its been 4 years in the making, and the economic crashed pushed it back a couple years but were just reviving it now. I'm working on (3) story multi-family dwellings that they plan to build between 50-100 when all said the traffic is just going to suck. Anyway im going off on a tangent lol So I do get a lot of different experiences and I do get to go out and measure buildings and do it all but the last 2 years has been like pulling teeth for me. It has definitely gone from something that I loved and enjoyed to just a job. I never thought about trying to get a job working for some type of historical renovation but in this day and age I don't really thing the money is there to do it. My plans were after I graduated to open my own business and I just don't think doing historical renovations is going to cut it. But that would be sweet to get something like that though. Anyway we'll have to chat about it in person I could go on and on about it, it's definitely something I've been thinking about for quite some time.
  12. Some good information for sure. It's funny how many different views on the subject there are depending on who you talk to. The no family life thing I was pretty aware of to begin with. Luckily at this point I'm single with no kids (thank god!) so that wouldn't be a problem now but could be some years down the road. Realistically I'd like to get on a police force and do some form of k-9 work where ever that would lead me. I'm also interested in the detective end of things as well. From what I hear both are EXTREMELY hard to get onto as well. I am aware that I wouldn't start out at one of those positions to. Thats kinda disheartening to hear about the 90% boredom and 10% terror. I never thought that there would be that much down time. Now I know some police forces are obviously busier than other so that would depend on where you are as well. And there are like no towns hiring. My cousin did the route where he paid for the training out of his own pocket and then applied to towns. I think it took him 6 months to finally land a job so that stinks. I'd be in the same position since I have no military experience I wouldn't have seniority over other people either. Keep the reviews coming guys, I like reading up on this stuff to help me make my decision. Oh Dan I'm just going to guess and say you work in some form of construction and if I'm right I'm not sure we should have a discussion about Architecture because it'll be a stalemate
  13. Don't worry this isn't a thread asking about crappy experiences with LEO's. I know we have some active LEO's and also some retired ones on here as well. What I'm looking for is your experiences as a LEO, are you happy doing it, if you could do it all over again would you etc etc. Currently I am going to school for Architecture and I'm not enjoying it as much as I use to anymore. I've worked for an architect for 5 years now and the sitting behind a desk all day long just isn't appealing to me anymore. I've always had the thought of become a police officer in the back of my mind but just never had. I have several friends who are police officers and I seem to get mixed reviews from them. It seems the older guys who are retired say they loved their jobs, enjoyed doing it but if they were my age in this day and age they probably wouldn't do it again due to how much the occupation has changed over the years. So whats your daily day like. Are you up moving around always doing stuff or does it become monotinous (sp) etc Thanks for the input!
  14. whoa i just saw that launcher on craigstlist last night. I was looking for an electric one heh thats kinda funny
  15. bring what you own, its open to everything to tell you the truth. I was going to go shoot slugs at the 100 yard range but I ran out of time. I had something else planned so I had to jet. Next month I can stay all day so if anyone wants to do pistol or something else. after clay shooting we can go do that! Oh and mal, I'm use to that look, I'll have her face looking like that and she'll be like ok hunny go play with your guns. M
  16. you listen here mister. You can arrange your boat weekends around my monthly shoot day. If you want me to talk to the misses I am smooth with the women. And no problem, we can get you in as a guest.
  17. yeah for real Ken what you looking to buy. Even tho you don't need a permit, you should go get your butt down to gander and pickup a new shotgun
  18. Ok guys hopefully due to popular demand we can keep this going. This past weekend there was myself, Ken (kenw), Mark (Malsua), and Dan (can't remember his SN but its dn something I think) were at the Ridge and we shot over 300 clay's between the 4 of us. It's a very laid back shooting event and anyone is welcome. If your not a member at the ridge yet, one of us would be glad to sign you in as a guest, its 25 dollars per guest. I am planning the monthly clay bird shoot the second Sunday of every month. We shot at 2pm this past weekend but I can pretty much shoot whenever so whatevers works best for the group works for me. So lets get some people starting to chime in. I am hoping for a nice big turnout. I'd like to see atleast 8 people there this time. Also if someone else has a thrower that would be AWESOME! Matt (The North Jersey Big Mouth) ps for you pistol and rifle happy boys and gals keep your eyes peeled for the monthly shooting event I am going to be putting together for them as well.

    Shoot slugs

or a red dot I believe
  20. or just find a lawyer who is into guns who would donate his time
  21. we already have a section, its called the politics section HAHAHAHA
  22. I have a really good feeling that corzine will not be re-elected but then again I'm not a big fan of Christie. The only thing I like about him is he's a ex cop, and no way is an ex-cop going to make it harder for legal citizens to get guns so hopefully he can help NJ out. But after that I am not a big fan of christie. It'll be interseting to see what the next couple of years brings us both state level and nationally with gun laws
  23. Thats what I was thinking PK. Thats right in my price range and I had heard 3x9's were good for what I would be shooting. Seems like a 3x9 is the way to go. Whats the difference between a 3x9 and a 4x12??? Funny thing is my buddy has a nikon and a leupold, and he is thinking about selling his leupold b/c he just likes his nikon more
  24. yip i looked into every law I possibly could when I started looking into guns. I thought I had found a loop hole by qualifying as a PI until I read the requirements to becoming a PI and the only way to become a PI is to be an ex-cop or put x amount of years in with a registered PI aka impossible for me. Also if you carry a lot of money for work and or carry jewels etc you could be granted a CCW So to give you the low down. It's pretty impossible to get one unless you are a cop, ex cop, or a PI
  25. Ok I am looking to finally buy my scope for my remington 700 in the very near future but I am having trouble which scope to buy. I have a rem 700 in 7mm-08 that will be use primarily for deer hunting in the 200+ range. I have pretty much decided on buying a Nikon scope due to the proven consistency of their glass and because of the price range they are in. What power scope should I be looking at. Thanks Matt
