  1. I have 4 Cabela's boxes and none of them provides a reliable seal. And one deformed so badly that the cover doesn't even match the bottom part to form a seal. And I store them in a dry and cool crawl space in my garage, so the deformation wasn't provoked in any way. So, 50 cal. surplus cans are the best.
  2. I have Bersa Thunder 380 for a couple of years now. Overall a nice variation of Walther PP/PPK family. From the quality point of view I had an issue with the disconnector spring that made me send it for warranty repair 3 times. If you google the Bersa Thunder 380 and disconnector spring you'd see that it is rather common. But the customer service is good. I am not sure if I can trust my life to this but on the other hand I do not believe in selling firearms unless absolutely necessary All together I have about 500 rounds through it.
  3. How about a situation when you're traveling for an extended distance and stop over at the hotel. What should you do with your firearms in this situation? I wouldn't leave them in the car, and if the hotel room is off limits as well than I guess I am limited to sleeping in the car
  4. If you grind off the bayo lugs on SKS and buy a detachable 5rd mag it may work I guess...
  5. This is after the extension... and I cannot afford to let it expire!!!
  6. Very true! And I definitely have enough to be able to start. It is just the whole PITA of getting the permits etc. On the other hand - my budget is safer with these obstacles.
  7. I am a typical weekend shooter and it is more of a recreational activity to me than a real sport, however I always wanted to stop by and take a look at USPSA events at my club (Old Bridge) So, your perspective on these guns is way different than mine, but very interesting indeed. If my permit wouldn't be expiring in about 2 weeks I'd definitely explore the competitive aspect of it more. But since the time-frame is also a factor I will have to base my decisions on the information I am getting from you guys and I have to say - I really appreciate the advices I am getting and the different perspectives that I didn't even think about! Thanks!
  8. I would assume the Witness would be very close to CZ, and I am looking for a different platform. Not because I don't like CZ - just want to expand to another. I should probably try the wide body 1911 - maybe they would fit better. SIG's are out of the price range I have in mind as well as the higher end 1911s. I handled FNP at Firearms Guild and it fits well. Obviously I should try it first since the 1911 feels great too - I just can't hit anything with it And I think I still need to take a closer look at Stoeger Cougar. All steel, hammer, rotating barrel... sounds interesting.
  9. I would say I have large hands since CZ75, 92FS and other double stack fit well but with 1911, TT33 and such I can't hit a whale in 10ft
  10. Thanks for the advice, I guess I would need to research a few more. CZ97 should be good - I already have CZ75 but would probably look for something different since I think they will be too similar. XD45 - tried it in .40 and wasn't impressed. I wonder if M&P would be very similar to XD, but will try it out. Beretta/Stoeger Cougar is something definitely worth checking out - somehow missed that.
  11. Thought of Glocks but would prefer a hammer-fired ones
  12. I am thinking of moving into .45 ACP territory and 1911 platform doesn't fit my hand very well. Also, would prefer a higher capacity mags (or should I call them clips now?) Any experience with either one? Thanks!
  13. I am a member there. It actually was my first choice since it is very close to my house - less then 10 minutes. The outdoor range is nice, very few people on the weekdays and after 2-3 pm on weekends. Indoor range doesn't have the automatic reels, but I have never seen more than 3-4 lines occupied so usually you don't have to wait too long to change your targets. There are always some competition activities at the outdoor range in the morning on the weekends and this is a good opportunity for you to stop by and check it out.
  14. I also heard a suggestion that the foaming cleaner for black powder guns is good for initial cleaning and actually removes the corrosive stuff. Haven't tried yet...
  15. Actually always wanted to ask - should I try to clean the magazine in Mosin or K98 every time? Does the corrosive stuff get in contact with the the magazines, followers etc.? Another question - how do you clean the chamber? I spray it with one of the action cleaner sprays and follow with the usual routine while cleaning the bore, but not always sure if I cleaned it enough. Thanks!
  16. Trying to decide between CZ82 and Bulgarian Makarov - what would you suggest?
  17. Best wishes and speedy recovery to Rafael!
  18. Would be interested in one of the older ones with hex receiver.
  19. I had to wait for a little less than 2 month to get mine this October. Was about to give them a call but all of a sudden the permits showed up in the mail. Previously, had to call them a few times after a month wait. But usually it takes them about two month, give or take a week.
  20. I have Bersa 380 and while I like the gun overall it failed 3 times and required warranty service for a very same reason - faulty disconnector spring. I could understand if it happens once... but 3 times is too much for a gun you may use in self-defense. So, do your research before you buy!
  21. Actually if I'm not mistaken they have an "End of Evil Empire" event at Cherry Ridge on 30th. That would include a few different stages shooting everything ComBloc. Mosins, AK's, TTs, 1895 Nagants, Makarov's, SVD's, DshK's, T-34's, SS20's... the list goes on.
