  1. I went to college there. I think my Dad bought some 22's here a while back. True. I wouldn't want to live there again. I can only imagine what this whole "Go Green" marketing thing has done over there.
  2. Well, either the room attendant noticed it but this is not usually the case. They are on such time restraints that they are given only a certain amount of minutes to clean each room. No worries as the washing procedures kills all eggs and lives bugs. The usual situations is that we get a complaint and see the precense when we check the room. Our rep says that it takes about 3 weeks from the introduction of bed bugs to them living in the mattress and start to feed at night. When I personally check a room, gloves and shower caps on my shoes when I go in. They honestly are not something to take chances on. We call our pest elimination company minutes after we find them. Treatment takes about 2 weeks. If you check the mattress before unpacking and settling in, you should be good. Put your luggage on the dresser or desk before you inspect. The scary part is it doesn't matter how nice or run down a hotel is, we all get them.
  3. First thing I do when traveling is to take off the sheets and check the mattress. Look under the large cord seams on the top and bottom. Especially on the head of the bed. If you see black spots like pepper, that is a sure sign of either bed bugs or it had bed bugs and they kept the mattress but didn't bother to encase it. The black specks are their blood excrement. Checking this way, you may even find some of the critters. If you really want to check, remove the headboard or check the box spring or bedframe for more evidence. They are such a problem, we also treat the rooms next door and above and below for precautionary methods. They travel in vaccums as well as between rooms through electrical outlets. One hotel in our region which we sold over a year ago had about 25 rooms out of order due to a bed bug infestation. I won't say which organization brought them in but it was a religious group traveling for some convention.
  4. Yes! I have been waititng for something like this. I am totally in. Not sure if I am the deer killing type but could definitely do turkey. When is turkey season and where do you go?
  5. I just started to get into fishing again. Anyone know any good places to fish in Bergen County? I fished Indian Lake today with a few bites. Lost a 4 incher and caught a turtle.
  6. I had the same issues while reloading rifle brass. Very aggrivating. I fixed it but not reloading rifle and stayed purely with pistol calibers. Solved that problem!
  7. I am a hotel General Manager and we get bed bugs about once a month. normally, the guests brought them in from another hotel during their travels but didn't consider that they may have them in their luggage as well. Costs us about $2500 for treatment and cost of soft goods replacement such as mattresses and pillows. If we are lucky, we can salvage the mattresses but only if they are encased in a cover designed to keep bed bugs out (or in).
  8. So I have about 10,000+ cases of crusty old dark .38 sp and 45 acp. I thought it wasn't going to clean up but someone told me about Iosso Case Cleaner. Worked liked a charm. Stuff looks brand new! The rifle case was dipped in for about 2 minutes and wiped clean. Oldslabsides...you da man.
  9. Nice! I think Iosso is the way to go. Just purchased 1 Gal. I will do some before and after pics once I receive it.
  10. I will try the walnut and leave it in for longer. I picked up about 3K 45 auto and 6K .38sp in one lump garage sale purchase. There was also about 2500 38sp nickel cases which I had already picked out. I will probably keep 1000 or so of the 38sp brass and the 45 leaving me more than what I know what to do with. If anyone is interested, I have them all in my shop in Hillsdale. Looking for CCI small pistol primers and Blue Dot if your looking to trade?
  11. I just came into possession of a large amount of old brass. Unfortunately, it is brown and looks like it has a patina on it. I tried cleaning it in media for an hour but it didn't do much. Any thoughts or any suggestions on a good polish to add?
  12. Hell yeah! Same here but fortunatley, she likes to hang out in the camping section. She still won't let me eat the food upstairs.
  13. This is worries me. Did you wear gloves when reloading lead? Did you shoot indoors in a poorly vented range? Me too! I don't wear gloves when reloading or casting but do cast in a large shop so I am not too worried about ventilation. I thought you can handle lead safely if you wash you hands with cold water and don't eat, drink or smoke during the handling.
  14. Whomever is reading this, feel free to offer your 2 cents but from what I see, lead for casting is about $1-$2 per lb on E bay and GB. Not sure what rates the scrap yard offer but I also generally see an average of $.10 per cast bullet on the commercial market, Mind you it is probably already lubed. Just a guess but say you are casting 45. I think you can probably get 25+ casts per ingot? So already you are saving. Then there is the cost of the energy to either take the lead to the scrap yard or the energy cost to melt down 10 lbs of lead. It is a hobby within a hobby for me and I enjoy the fact that I cast my own projectiles. Accomplishment and convienence are big for me. So without doing math, you probably save 25-50% by casting your own. Keep in mind this is an educated guess and didn't use the quadratic formula! One thing to keep aware of is lead exposure. Be sure to wear mask and gloves. At my last physical I asked the doctor to test my lead levels in my blood because I reloaded with cast bullets. They ended up being 3X the acceptable OSHA limit. I have since done multiple chelation tratments to extract the lead from my body (it doesn't leave on its own). I now use total metal jacketed (i.e. no exposed lead) copper jacketed bullets for reloading pistol. It's a bit more expensive, but at least I am not handling lead any more or breathing it in when I shoot. Wow, that's something to think about. How long were you casting before you got checked?

  16. I would but Bayonne is pretty far. Thanks for the offer. I'll bring it when you make your appearence at the Bullet Hole! ok, deal! When is the next meet?
  17. I would but Bayonne is pretty far. Thanks for the offer. I load with Trail Boss, HS-6 and Blue Dot and keep my velocity below 1000 fps so I guess I should be good. I have been melting these in small batches for a while and coincidentally read about some squirting lead during melting. Just so happens that it happened today...not a good day to wear shorts.
  18. So I finally got around to melting down some scoops in a larger pot instead of little handfulls in my Lee. I used one of those electric hot plates which actually got hot enough to melt about 10 lbs of range bullets. Anybody think I will have any hardness issues with this stuff? I originally had them in a bucket but decided to build a pyramid for effect.
  19. Yeah but it is pretty simple. A few screws and some bolts and it's off. It feels very comfortable.
  20. I know someone who built a single lane in their basement. 2 rows of cinderblocks for the lane walls and has a rubber chips at the end. He does have a very long basement so it worked out well. He uses an old range hood as his ventilation which blows air outside...even has a light. In a normal situation, I guess neighbors would be an issue but his nearest neighbor is accross a pond so it's all good.
  21. I meant to post this in the rifles section...
  22. So I got a Hi-point 995 from the Marketplace here. Even though it sure was a strange looking rifle, I found this ATI stock available. What do you think? Can't wait to fire it. Will be my first red dot sight.
  23. Also Ramsey outdoor in Ramsey (not Paramus). They have every primer except small pistol right now.
