  1. Thanks! My ship date is currently March 5 but I'm trying to get my recruiter to bump it up to January if he can. I've always been a fan of the cold so I'd rather do the crucible in that vs the heat. I'm still trying to use my skills in the private sector but no one is hiring, which is why I'm going reserves, so I can have a civilian life while doin my weekend warrior thing >=)
  2. MIKE!!!!! sup man. long time no see. yeah my job will be more of a support role but i gotta be prepared in every situation like a convoy to and from the place to work on aircraft. every marine a rifleman after all >=)
  3. MOS 6324 - Aircraft communications/navigation/electrical/weapon systems technician U/AH-1
  4. I'm perfectly aware of that. Don't mean i gotta like the guy
  5. For those who may remember me and my plans to join the military, well here is the latest update I thought I'd share with my NJ brothers in arms. I took my oath yesterday and am officially a USMC Reservist poolee! My ship date is in March but I'm working to get that moved up. Took the ASVAB, scored high enough to ensure I qualify for any job that was available. I'll likely be a 6324. Please don't thank me for my service as I haven't earned that honor yet. The only downside is the Bama will be my CiC but hopefully not for long. Either way, the Corps will be around long after he's gone. Wish me luck! Any words of wisdom are welcome!
  6. welcome fellow middlesexian... yeah, thats a word. wait there's pie on tuesdays!??!? now i want pie
  7. Keep in mind, african americans did not elect Obama, moderates did. Statistically african americans tend to vote democrat so having a black candidate does nothing to change that. This is still a center-right country and Obama ran as a moderate during his campaign. Now he has about three years and his record is very clear. From the unaccountable and unelected czars and the ultra liberal justices to the constant vacationing in a time where americans were losing their homes, to the constant apologizing for the US. The moderates have had it with this guy. The POTUS is suppose to be a leader for us, and lead us into making this country great. This guy is more worried about how the world views him, with his constant appeasing and apologizing for american arrogance. It is not a done deal, but he is definitely beatable with a decent candidate. I love Ron Paul but he looked too decrepit to win the people over in my opinion. I hate Romney because from his flip flopping on health care and guns he just appears to me like your typical RINO politician, BUT! he does have experience in the matters of business and private sector jobs so that he a huge plus for him among moderates. What I am more worried about aside from the economy is the justices on the SCOTUS. If Romney gets in would he appoint conservative justices? The next few years may be crucial in the realm of gun rights with the carry suits from multiple states eventually making its way up to SCOTUS. Imagine for a moment if Gore or Kerry had won the election and we didn't have the 5-4 majority to secure our most fundamental rights.
  8. Give shore shot a call. I believe they can order pretty much anything you want and can convert it before selling it to you. Don't quote me though, but that is a good bet.
  9. I do understand the "we are our worst enemy" issue and being too jumpy. However it was their lack of awareness that got to me. Two kids right next to a group of kids playing basketball looking like they are ready to shoot up the place? That lack of judgement really blew my mind. From an onlookers perspective, if I didnt see them shooting at the squirrels and knowing it was airsoft, I may have freaked the f out.
  10. dunno if this adds to the circumstances, but from where i was sitting, i couldnt see the orange tips. possibly colored over with a sharpie?
  11. In this specific scenerio the way the two kids were "hiding" behind the building overseeing the basketball court. if i were passing by and saw this I would definitely think a shooting was about to go down. What is worse, if a cop were driving by and saw it, guns would have definitely been drawn.
  12. So I'm at a playground/park in Edison and I see these two kids walkin along, probably around 13 years old. Look like normal kids until they break out two airsoft guns and start taking shots at a squirrel. After the squirrel runs away they put the airguns back in their pants and continue walking along the playground until they see another squirrel. So they "take cover" behind this small utility building, which is right next to a basketball court where some kids are playing. Now picture this in your mind, kids playing basketball at like 25 yards away and two kids are right behind a building taking out guns out of their pants trying to get a squirrel. If a cop had been driving by at the time they would have jumped out of the car guns drawn. What would you have done? Call the cops? Lecture the kids? Let it go? I let it go, but how about you?
  13. Glad to hear someone is proud, i told my pops im training for the marines and he threatened disownment. They are of the mindset that people who join the military have no future or career so it gives them something to do. I tell ya, glad you're of the proud variety. I'd be damned proud if my kid joined. Thank you and your boys for their service now and future
  14. I'll try to be as civil and sincere as possible. People have this notion that if CCW were made legal, everyone would run to get it. Clearly that is not that case with all the other states as the % of people who actually exercise that right are few. In addition since criminals would very unlikely apply, the only people left who may concern you would be wreckless people who apply for a permit. Unfortunately the speculation of recklessness in my opinion should not be justifiable reason to deny this right. Think of it like this. If tomorrow a certain street racing tire previously banned was now made legal, would everyone run out to buy them? Would you? Obviously not, since only people who care enough and are in the "racing scene" would even be aware to care. The same goes with guns. The only people who would go get one are the ones who care enough to go through the entire process and submitting themselves to further scrutiny and checks into their lives to be issued a permit. You also state it's simple mathematics, well in that case I invite you to look at the basic math. A criminal currently would more likely attack someone in jersey than in a state where ccw were legal (ceteris paribus). In my experience an overwhelming amount of cops I encounter here and in real life do not agree with your views in this matter, so mathematically you are in the minority. Every single civilian here has virtually 0% of self defense if put in a situation that would call for it. How's that for math we can live with? I'd venture to say most people on this board are not gun nuts, but liberty nuts. The litmus test I personally use for my views are the following. Do my views hinder someone else's freedom and liberty? Back in the AZ shooting, the father of the little girl who was shot is the true american we should all aspire to be, he stated that if his daughters death was the price we had to pay to live in a free country then so be it. He truly understood we cant use something like presumed safety to justify curtailing our freedoms. I understand you have a hard job and I don't fault you for that. But for one moment, consider the possibility that your views, although are well intentioned, if implemented your way would hinder liberty? Although I am not calling you a tyrant, I leave you with this. “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” -C S Lewis
  15. Might I add. try adding a few drops of oil right into the breech. Let it sit a little to ensure the oil gets into all the nooks of the case then try the cleaning rod. Worked wonders for me.
  16. fiddlestix... rain is causing them to close early today... curse you precipitation!!!
  17. Who's goin tomorrow? Weather permitting I'll be there.GOtta check if they're open first, being easter weekend and all. If anyone wants to say hi, look for the three asian guys and a white girl. Crude but accurate description to track us down.
  18. Welcome fellow Edisoner. I go to shore shot as well. Ammo can get expense, I'm glad I reload now. lol Welcome to the world handguns. more addicting than Charlie Sheen.
  19. just spoke with a recruiter. To sum it up I pretty much have to get in shape. Who wants to work out with me? lol
  20. Any reservists that can share some insight? I finished my graduate degree last year and lately I've been hearing the call louder every day. I plan on doing officer reserves. Has anyone had any experience with this?
  21. You have to realize when it comes to these politicians who make it their goal to deprive others of their rights. They are viewed with no more sympathy than a traitor to the constitution. First amendment says you can say and believe anything you want, but when you act upon it to deprive others of natural fundamental rights, you get zero sympathy from me regardless of age or cause of death. Yes I have liberal friends, but they are just that, opinions to which they are entitled to. I have no doubt this man likely believed that his ideas were sound and just in the name of safety, unfortunately whether he knows it or not, it is the same kind of thinking that tyrants use to take a foothold of power.
  22. So me and my friend want to do some rifle hunting in PA. What are some of the thing I should know/have to do that? I'm completely new to the subject so any help would be appreciated. Things such as, do i need a pa hunting license or nj? Any particular rules/laws i should look into? restrictions, etc.
  23. im hoping to shoot steel there. if i bring my own target and shoot from 200 yds, is there special ammunition i'm supposed to use?
  24. It seems pretty clear to me. This citizen knew the law. Heck I googled the law in 10 seconds and knew that OC was legal with a permit and the sight of a gun itself is not justifiable reason for a stop. If I can do it, I do not see the fine line in which you speak of. The line is clear, if the law enforcers cannot follow this obvious line, wey have no business in law enforcement. If I'm a cop and i break the law (even unknowingly) it is my fault and I should be disciplined. I'm startin to smell a troll. lol
  25. I did not say we should fight the cops on everything, that is simply what you are inferring because I do not agree with you. What I am saying is that your philosophy tends to be, wey're is not much we can do, it is what it is. Is a dangerous attitude to have, especially on a forum that promotes freedom and liberty. And just because "...officers should know the law. However that is not the case." to which I agree. We can simply accept that or actively try to change things. This citizen, last I heard is taking them to court which he has the right to do. We should all try to correct officers if we see wey're is a need for correcting in an appropriate manner. If we all had the "it is what it is" attitude nothing would ever change. I am curious that given the facts and the stated laws, you still feel it was this cop's responsibility to stop someone who was OC'ing. Or have you seen the light?
