  1. I was down in NC (talk about a a gun friendly state!) and got to shoot a buddy's HK45. That thing shoots like a dream! The perceived recoil felt like I was shooting a 9mm (and I was shooting factory .45 loads). The amazing ergos that everyone writes about on the forums are real - the grip fits like it's custom molded to your hand. The gun is also amazingly accurate! After this range trip, I got bit by the HK bug. I'm looking at the P30L since I've figured if the HK45 was so easy to shoot, the HK P30L must be even easier. Reading about the LEM trigger makes it very intriguing for me too. Anyone own a P30L w/ LEM? I'm a member at SCFGPA in Bridgewater which is a nice small range to shoot at.

    Makarov 9x18

For a nice pistol that fires 9x18, check out the CZ 82: http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?groupid=104 All steel, high quality CZ construction make this a great choice if you want to go into 9x18. I shot this pistol one time and the all steel design makes it very controllable and much less snappy then smaller makarov variants. Great prices on it as well. Plus it's a CZ
  3. Thanks for all of the recommendations. I ended up shipping via FedEx and it wasn't as bad as I expected ($60 w/ proper insurance and direct signature). I slapped it on one of their Priority Express boxes and went to FedEx Kinko's to attempt to ship it. When I mentioned that the box contained a firearm (as per FedEx policy) the lady at the counter gave me a horrified look and said that she won't take the box for shipment. I politely told her that as per FedEx policy, shipping firearms is legal. She then asked me if I disassembled my firearm...and I said no, FedEx policy doesn't require that and asked her where she got her info from  I left FedEx Kinko's and went over to the main FedEx shipping center in Branchburg, where they took care of everything very promptly and professionally. Moral of the story - don't go into a FedEx Kinkos if you're shipping your gun as I don't think those employees really read and understand the policy set forth by their company!
  4. I'm looking to ship my CZ 75B out to the CZ Custom Shop for one of their sweet trigger jobs after shooting some's SP-01 at the range the other day. I've never shipped a firearm before but I know that for non-FFL holder, USPS is out of the question and that FedEx and UPS are both very expensive options. Can anyone recommend a good FFL that's willing to ship the firearm for me and not charge an arm and leg for the transfer fee? I don't mind throwing the FFL some $ for their trouble but one shop I talked to wanted to charge me shipping + full transfer ($50!) which basically makes shipping the same as using UPS or FedEX. Thanks for any responses!
  5. Do you have and FID? Ranges that rent only to people that are licensed to purchase firearms. Pretty sure it's a liability thing that forces them to do this. Fro example, the range I'm at only allows you to bring members to shoot if they posses a valid FID.
  6. What sort of issues are you having with the 10 round mags?
  7. Thanks for sharing - it's always good to hear that there are companies out there that make customer service a priority!
  8. Pretty sure the barrel on these is fixed to the frame, so forget about converting "up" to a centerfire caliber.
  9. Customer service has always been a big indicator of a vendor for me. With several other pleasant to deal with folks in the NJ area, I'd much rather go take my $$ there than to deal with someone that will give me an attitude when I want to buy from them. I never understood why store owners would *ever* strive to give their customer a less than stellar experience - they are your life support! I have noticed this on more than one occasion in gun shops (here and out of state) - could be the owners are compensating for their lack of "firepower".

    CZ 75 owners!

Thanks Strider! Get'em while they're hot! The $24/mag price seems to come around every 3 mo or so.
  11. Aim Surplus just listed a police trade-in Smith & Wesson 5906 in 9mm. They look to be in good shape. I assume these would be the NYPD models so I assume that the triggers are going to be really heavy. http://tinyurl.com/ylob49n Anyone ever shot one of these?

    9mm vs .380acp

On price alone, I'd opt to go with 9mm over .380. In the 2008/09 ammo shortage craze, .380 was *impossible* to find, while 9mm was only difficult to find Also, price is a big factor if you don't reload, .380 is around the same price as .40 S&W!
  13. Actually, CZ still offers 15 round factory mags for the CZ75B. I got mine on sale for $24.95 a pop directly from them (wait for the sale - they have them periodically): http://tinyurl.com/yeebzzp

    Ammo

Why? Cabela's has some very good prices when ammo goes on sale and then they have lots of times when they offer free shipping. No tax on top of that. Pricing ammo buys vs other online shops, Cabela's usually comes out as a better deal.
  15. I think that either frame will outlast the useful life of the either pistol. Recoil differences would also be negligible (and can be tuned with the right recoil spring from Wolff). So the main 2 points I would look at are: 1) weight (for me lighter is better if you ever get a chance to carry) 2) do you want a decocker or a manual safety. Trigger jobs and the competition hammer install from czcustom (which makes the trigger really sweet!) are easier/cheaper to do on non-decocker SA/DA guns. They do offer one for decockers however it's about $35 more to do due to the complexity of the trigger mechanism. Or if you have some $$ to spend, go for this PCR: http://tinyurl.com/bnbx2l As an added bonus, CZ's customer service always gets very good feedback and I would think they'd fix any problems you had with the frames due to a defect in worksmanship/quality of materials.
  16. You can also place the order online at Cabelas and select shipping for "In-Store Pickup". That way it's waiting there for you when you're ready to go and you paid internet prices. Works very well.
  17. Sounds promising. Please let us know the results of your range trip! Also, could you post a picture of how the mag looks when it's inserted into the pistol?

    CZ 75 owners!

The ProMags work great in my CZ 75B for after I've replaced the magazine spring with a Wolff Extra Power Mag Spring. You can pick up the ProMag for $15 here: http://www.rrarms.com/catalog.php?prod=CZA1 and the spring go for $9 for a set of 3. The MecGar 15 rnders are back up to $40/ a piece.
  19. EAA Witness mags will fit and function, however, I've had less than stellar reliability when using them - I've experienced double feeds whereas with the CZ factory mags, I've had perfect reliability. I eventually ended up getting rid of the EAA mags and got myself a set of 15 round ProMags and replaced the magazine spring with extra power Wolff springs. With this setup, I've had 100% reliability thus far. I got them for $15 / piece online a few months back + the cost of the Wolff Mag spring pack (about $9.95 for 3 springs). The place I ordered the magazines from was rrarms.com https://www.rrarms.com/catalog.php?prod=CZA1
