  1. Kaiser, dont worry about what laws *maybe* passed, buy what you can legally own now! It'll always be easier to buy now and make something compliant if that unfortunate bill comes to pass vs trying to buy something that doesn't exist in the future.
  2. Don't necessarily think that you're stuck buying 2 pistols if you went the .22 route first. You said you liked the Sig P226 and P229, why not try the Sig P-series Classic rimfire guns? http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/p226-classic-22.aspx @ around, $450, they provide a cheaper intro into the Sig world. You can shoot to your heart's content and get some good trigger time, and then down the road, purchase a Sig X-Change Kit to covert the same frame up to 9mm/.40s&w/.357sig when you're ready to shoot centerfire for about $350 more. You don't need another permit for the X-Change Kit either which is nice. 2 guns in one.
  3. Yes, all occurrences have been with 2 3/4 shells - all brands, Winchester AA, Remington Gun Club (happens more often it seems with this brand), and Estate. Yes, it seems if I sit there for a while and then give it a good whack to pump the slide, it frees up and the hull is ejected out the bottom. Interesting thought about the high brass ammo...what's inexpensive that's high brass?
  4. I have an old Ithaca m37 (circa-1954) that I'm having some issues with. Every so often, the gun locks up after firing a shell. By "locks up", I mean that I fire a shell, and when I go to slide the pump back, it's stuck - I can't pump it back and therefore cannot extract the hull. I've been able to clear the jam, by very forcefully sliding the pump. When I mean forcefully, usually I need to prop the butt stock against the ground and putting all my weight on the pump, I can extract the hull. Yes, I look silly doing it in the field. Can't figure out what could be causing this. Most of the time, the gun cycles just fine and the action is nice and smooth. Anyone have any recommendations on a gunsmith who knows these old Ithacas in central NJ? I think all she needs is to be broken down and cleaned...action hasn't been apart since the 1960's! It's a passdown from the grandfather so I'd like to keep her running!
  5. I got the same form letter response back from her... atrocious spelling and all
  6. Since when did a Glock 19 become an "assault weapon" even under the definition provided by the AWB? How can someone try to ban something without even being able to clearly define it???
  7. I purchased my first handgun a few years back at Caso's and it was a great experience. Really nice folks and it's good to see that they are continuing with the great customer experience. If it wasn't in JC, I'd probably visit more often.
  8. I've got 1 SF flashlight that I picked up on clearance last black friday, it's a great light. But, I'll say that the $120 I spent on it doesn't put it above the performance or quality of my $40 Fenix that I carry and use more often. Like the previous poster said, there are better bang-for-the-buck lights out there. Btw, I checked Spyder's site...not sure what they meant by Discontinued/Clearance sale...their prices are still high!
  9. I'm a member, but I still can't figure out where to click to donate to the general fund. Is it the same as donating to the OEC fund?
  10. Agreed, I never thought that this group would be a pro-2nd Amendment group, as you pointed out, there are just too much anti-vocabulary in use on the site. The only redeeming thing with this group is that it seems like a group that you could actually sit at a table with and have a sensible conversation. Especially given that the leaders of this group are self-identified gun owners themselves. I think the NRA would stand to gain a lot in the eyes of the public opinion to have discussions with the group and really focus the group's efforts on the gun-violence piece as opposed to the gun-control side of their story.
  11. What do you guys think about Gabby Gifford's new group, "Americans for Responsible Solutions"? Reading her opening on the website, it's definitely a pro-gun control stance, however, it actually has a reasonable tone to it. She focuses more on coming up with ways to prevent gun violence vs just outright saying that she wants to ban guns. quote from: http://americansforr...esolutions.org/ Giffords and her husband both own guns and they seem to bring a fresh take on bringing dialog to this debate in our nation. quote from: http://www.usatoday....ontrol/1816383/ Please discuss!
  12. Just a quick update, for $18 I figured I'd give the Hogue monogrips a try...they're awesome! Quality and fit of the Hogues is leaps and bounds over the Pachmayrs and I sent those back to the store I got them from. Amazing feel vs the football sized wood grips I had on it before! I'll try to put some .357 rounds through the gun this weekend and I'll see how it feels.
  13. Thanks guys, def looks like 8x50r...similar to pics I'm seeing online. Interesting to find this in Poland of all places. Looking at the round it's marked, 5 on one side and 50 on the other. This would indicate manufactured in May 1950 I guess. Maybe a round used by post-war forces in the area that were stationed to clean up the battlefield?
  14. Can anyone help me identify the round in this picture? This is something that was a pickup from a WW2 battlefield in eastern Europe back in the early 1990's. Thanks! Headstamp
  15. Nice! I like the grips. Where did you get them from and what kind of wood are they?
  16. Thing to remember is that Jim usually just takes your order over the phone and doesn't take a $ deposit so technically he wasn't selling "someone else's gun". After you order, he calls you if/when it comes in. He does slap your name on the box if you call about a specific gun he needs to order, but you best check in with him every couple of weeks so you can claim your prize when he does finally get it in stock Jim is a fantastic guy to deal with btw!
  17. I had plain Hogue checkered rubber grip panels on my 1911, which gave a really nice grip. Not much of a look though. These were the ones: http://www.hoguestore.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=734_50_146&products_id=6784 I have VZ grips on my CZ 75B, and I love them. The tactical diamond pattern gives the right amount of grip (for me) and they come in different colors/patterns.
  18. Thanks for the offer! I'll see if I'm around on 1/20 and I may stop by the range that day. Also, thanks for the info about the round vs square butt compatability.
  19. When I purchased my S&W M28 a year ago, it came with some really nice wood grips. This past week, I finally got out to a range that allowed me to shoot .357 magnums. It was a lot of fun, but I must say, I was surprised by the beating my palm took from the exposed backstrap! I'm used to shooting powder-puff .38 spl loads so this was a big jump in felt recoil. This experience got me thinking to pick up some rubber grips that cover up the backstrap. Which grips can you recommend? I picked up a set of the Pachmayr Decelerator grips (http://www.pachmayr.com/home/decelerator-grids.php) but I must say, they feel cheap and the fit leaves much to be desired. For example, I can't even completely tighten the screw that holds the grips onto the frame as it will protrude from the opposite side if tightened all the way. Searching online, I saw that the s&w m500 grips made by Hogue, wrap around and cover the backstrap as well and that they fit n-frame. Downside is that they only seem to come in round to square butt...the m28 has a square butt. Will square butt frames fit into grips for round butt frames? http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product4_750001_750051_765464_-1_758003_757843_757837_ProductDisplayErrorView_N Any other recommendations I should look at?
  20. CZ 75BD decockers cannot be swapped out for a safety like on a standard CZ 75B. The frames has different cut outs. The newer CZ Omega trigger group does allow for swapping between decocker / safety, but the only model which currently officially supports it is the CZ P-07.
  21. I was in Heritage Guild in Branchburg last week and they had a full size CZ 75B in 9mm and a CZ 75B Compact in 9mm. Also had a CZ 83 in .380 ACP. As far as the current supply issues, the number 1 reason for their lack of stock is that it's end of year and the Holidays. These guns all come from the Czech Republic and Dec / Holidays is a dead time for production in Europe so I doubt that CZ-USA is getting anything imported in at this time. Like folks said, best you get one on order somewhere and have it shipped to your FFL of choice. I'll second what Duppie said, check in at czcustom.com or even place an order with them. That way you can get in line once the 2013 shipments start to come over. While you're buying from CZ Custom, have them do the $170 competition hammer and trigger job, it becomes an amazing pistol with that action work
  22. Very nice! The Smith Pro series 1911's are beautiful and they are super reliable!

  24. I think the NRA's silence is echoed by much of the firearms industry and it's really sad. I went to several prominent manufacturer's pages and not a note at all anywhere regarding this tragedy. Something as simple as offering condolences to the families of the victims would go a long way to show that the gun community isn't a bunch of cold, heartless killers, like the media is portraying us. The manufacturer's page that had anything was CZ USA and Dan Wesson...more should follow suit. I agree with what was written earlier, give time for the nation to grieve and then it'll be time to discuss the issues at hand.
  25. Talk about a knee-jerk reaction. I guess they are seeing the writing on the wal...a high probability of the AWB coming into effect again. http://cnnmon.ie/Wm6k1z Not good in general for US firearm manufacturers. Their stocks have been taking a beating in the aftermath of this tragedy.
