Our dinner is tomorrow, so I’m ramping up the cooking today. So far, I’ve done the sausage and cornbread dressing, and made a caramel pie. Mrs Tex made me wait till Saturday morning to make homemade bread. The turkey is in the brine. If yall have never never had a caramel pie, it’s the easiest pie you’ll ever make. Take 2 14oz cans of Carnation Evaporated Milk. Peel the labels, and put them in a pot and cover them with water. Keep at least 1” water over the cans. Bring them to a boil, then turn them down to a simmer. Flip the cans every 30 mins. Cook like this for 3 hours. Remove the cans and set aside till cool. Don’t open the cans until they are room temp. Scoop into a graham cracker pie crust, top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings . Pro-tip on leftovers.... https://pin.it/pfeqt7t36o2xx2 Except I make the pie crust out of a mix of crackers and leftover dressing.

What do y’all like for an ‘everyday sippin’ bourbon? (I don’t mean as in ‘every day, of course, more of a go-to casual drink sense). Personally, Eagle Rare is my favorite. Buffalo Trace is a close second. For an inexpensive bourbon, I can’t tell you how much I like Evan Williams. Great bang for the buck in the bourbon world! -

I think I have some rye in my liquor cabinet. Maybe I’ll mix up one of these later today! Cheers! -

When I drink bourbon, it’s ‘neat’, I don’t think I’ve ever had an ‘Old Fashioned’, but I’ll try your recipe! -

Eh, the wild turkeys I’ve eaten taste like crap. I’ll stick with butterball.

You can make all kinds of kolaches. I like the jalapeño smoked sausage, but ham and cheese are good too! Some people put fruit and cheese in them. I’ll also be making a caramel pie, and an apple pie. Mrs Tex doesn’t trust me to make (her favorite) pumpkin pie, so that will be coming from a bakery.

We are having Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday when some friends come up from Md. I am already baking. Made an apple fritter bread to have with coffee in the morning. Tomorrow I’ll start baking homemade bread, and maybe even some kolaches!

It wasn’t just NJ..Md and De were like this too. I suspect they were anticipating the temperature to stay a bit warmer, and the precipitation to turn to rain sooner than it did. Took me over 5 hours to get from Baltimore to Cherry Hill, which normally takes 2-ish hours. I didn’t see a plow or salt truck in Md until it was VERY apparent that it wasn’t changing over to rain when they expected it to.

Took me 5.5 hours to get back from Baltimore. Normally a 2 hour drive for me. At least 20 accidents along the way. People gotta learn to slow down!!

Roy Clark, country music legend and 'Hee Haw' star, dead at 85

My dad knew him. He was a riverboat pilot for the company my dad worked for at the time, before he made it in the music business. -
