  1. I was speaking to a guy at work today who hunts. He said you can hunt coyotes during shotgun season. Obviously, don't take this as gospel but it might encourage you to verify if you were thinking it was a certain "no no" in NJ.
  2. Wow, I did not realize coyotes are that big. Do they hunt solo or in a pack like wolves? Can i ask what county? thx
  3. I am going to this two day training in a few weeks. Other than the items they recommend (rain wear, 3 plus mags, baseball hat, eyes / ears, etc...)... is there anything easily overlooked that some of you might suggest I bring? This is my first training course. Not a fan of knee or elbow pads, but i am looking for good suggestions like that...I would have never thought of that. I have flashlight, holster, ammo, etc. It is for Defensive Handgun I and II Thanks!
  4. Please continue with the reviews...I enjoy them and will likely do the simunitions classes with GFH...mainly because of your review.
  5. if that is their policy and it bothers you that much then move on. its a shrug to me...if they have the gun i want then i leave my id on the counter. i like the t-shirts the employees wear at Ramsey Outdoors by me...the back reads"We are not Dick's"

    Savage 320 Pump

I like it and love the price. Is there room for a light?
  7. Hit up Curtis's Barbeque in Putney, VT (exit 4). It has been about 20 years since I was there last and it has not changed a bit...hell, nothing changes in VT. Youtube it...great little video
  8. see fourth post down in the link below...not saying this is the bible, but most concrete answer I can find so far. Hopefully some of the veterans on this board will chime in as you indicated. http://www.newjerseyhunter.com/article120583.htm
  9. I rented a cabin in VT a few weeks ago and my take on it was NY is a problem for trqnsporting and I have a FL CCW too. I think there was a post on this forum that made me reach that conclusion. I will look for it.
  10. If you are unexperienced I would say stick along the AT in PA or NJ...not sure about weapons though. The main thing is to test it in the winter too...having backpacked in The Whites, Catskills, and Dacks in the winter it is a different game. I really don't envision a SHTF scenario where we run to the woods, but I would be a liar if I said I did not have a bivy, water filter and sleeping bag ready...among other typical stuff.
  11. when wearing the shirt in normal situations (walkings, arms down) the shirt fits food and the fit also looks good. when i shoot i pretty much extend my arms at full length and i was trying to make the point it feels tight when fully extending the arms.
  12. Good for him. Even Obama dislikes Biden.
  13. Do you have one? If so, do you like it? I have only seen reviews on the SPX and most were favorable...thanks for the reply.
  14. The Mossberg website does not say if the receiver is drilled and tapped. I was on Bud's for the HS model and it states all Mossberg Special Purpose, but I didn't think the HS was a Special Purpose model. Does anyone have the HS model (not the tactical version) and can tell me if drilled? thank yoo.
  15. intetesting. i am amazed the small stick can hold the rabbit...seems the soil is soft too. good times for dad and kids.
  16. Just thought I would give my two cents on some recent purchases off Amazon. Adventure Medical Kits: Emergency Bivy great item to keep in your car especially if you get stranded on a cold night. Typical tinfoil material found in all emergency blankets but in a bivy form. comes rolled up in a pull cord bad the size of a tennis ball. i think it was $13 and i will buy another one. Plenty of reviews on Youtube. Spyderco Tenacious: Wow, great value knife. i always bought the cheap Remington ones for $10 bucks at Walmart, but it is nice to have a quality knife. I seem to give one away each year...daughter's boyfriend, nephew, guy at work. this one I am not giving away. Very good value IMO. Also love my Mora knife but do not carry it. 5.11 Tactical: Short Sleeve Covert Shirt - Select i am 5'11 188lbs. Bought medium and fits great...it looks nice too. i bought black. Conceals G23 in Kholster at 4:00 nicely. Materially is not that heavy to me...others on internet disagree. the extension room for your arms is not good...maybe i need a large. I would expect a different seam pattern around armpits...if possible, sort of like karate pants in the croch area. the hidden inside pockets at chest level are good for some cash and other thin items but i won't use them. the side flaps (3 & 6 o'clock) with velcro are useless for drawing IMO. In fact, I find it more likely to get caught up on the gun. The reason I bought it was for the snap buttons made to look like traditional shirt buttons. I saw a video where a guy slid his hand in the bottom 2 or 3, unsnapped them easily, then swept the shirt back and had a nice one hand draw. Well, the snaps are stubborn. Does not seem to be working...breakout the WD-40 ? Hmm, nah. I will wear the shirt, but not when I carry. I prefer many of the similar style shirts I already have.
  17. I am right handed as well. i have been shooting much more square to the target than you...it seems to work better for me. I then began focusing on a straight left arm and actually moved my right foot forward about6 inches. looser grip with right hand, better trigger control...still working on this, not sure yet. thanks for sharing your practice tips. Nice shooting! Much better than I do.
  18. I will be there tomorrow around noon. Have the day off, but mechanic, DMV inspection then RTSP. Unfortunately, I would be the wrong person to get assistance from. Although I have improved a lot since taking the GFH basic course and Frank, the assistant instructor, gave me some good pointers which have worked. Anyway, my name is Joe...42, wear eye glasses, short brown hair, will be shooting a Glock 23 if you want to introduce yourself. While I am not qualified to give shooting advice it is always nice to meet other forum members. Joe
  19. Is it wrong to bring your target forward or push it out via electronic target system while someone is shooting in the lane next to you? I personally like the " distraction", but I only shoot at 5 and 7 yards and do not spend much time looking for a perfect shot / sight picture.
  20. One of the comments in the article is that it is poorly written...should be CDS and not CDs...What is CDS?
  21. Bad management. The Ramsey by me in Roxbury is pretty good. I would not say super though. Meltzer's is very customer oriented probqbly because the owner seems to bee there quite a bit. I bought my Glock there and went two other times and they went out of their way to help me even when I said i was just browsing...shotguns coming off the rack...hold this one, how about this one and so on.
  22. the best "prevention" was the gun range owner who said "nah, can't be a member here...something not right."
  23. We have a castle doctrine but it is a joke in my opinion. Also, it does not protect you from a civil lawsuit. Do even if you are justified in defending your life, the bad guy's family will sue you. Nobody wins a lawsuit except the lawyers. I am more passionate about a better castle doctrine in NJ than I am about CCW. And it would be great if a new castle doctrine addressed situations like being assaulted in your car, work, etc...
