  1. A big thank you to Mike & his merry band of helpers for putting on the class. This goes back I believe to the heart of the forum spirit, to get us face to face and shooting with each other.
  2. The flashlight doubles as a hammer when you get up close and personal.
  3. Think back on it now, I should repeated some drills weak-handed. Who says your strong hand is immune to injury ??
  4. I can tell you Pete's CZ 75 has hardly any recoil in .40 cal. It has less recoil than his PX4 9mm. The CZ for my small hands is ergonomic excellence. I shoot that gun the best out of anything we own.
  5. As mentioned above , the low-light level 2 is all about moving in the dark esp. when Shooting, It was absolutely pitch dark in there, No ambient light to see by ( which was perfect in my opinion ). Two other forum members, wombat & old glock guy were there. The student to instructor ratio of 5-2 just cannot be beat, I was hoping it would be less attended then urban pistol ( sorry Anthony ) but having so few students made it the bomb for 1-1 learning. The initial movement drills were a bit like line dancing, so faster shooters were closing with slower shooters or with some one doing a reload. Then we went to only 2 shooters at a time, things really started picking up, Retention grips, moving diagonally and scanning the area all came into play As 2 of my CZ mags are 12 capacity and most drills were 3 shot bursts, I twice holstered an empty gun without realising that reloading was required. Both times Joe jumped on me for it - bless his heart - but in pitch black the flash light beam draws you attention down to target and its easily missed. As I had no weapon mounted light, ALL my shooting was one handed - I do make it a point to practice a few mags worth at the range single strong & weak hand so it was not a big deal. As mentioned above both the Walter PPQ & the 1911 had jams that needed clearing, my CZ sp01 .40 cal which has been to the range twice prior to this course with no cleaning still performed flawlessly ~250 rds later. I have a honking big Flashlight and when told to put the flashlight in our mouth could only say its going to look like gay porn so I was lent a leaner light. I seen the Wombats light+laser use during the barricades drill and agree that the sight of the laser in pitch dark can be distracting and also seemed to draw a laser bead both ways i.e. back to the person shooting it, things to factor in to home invasion scenarios. My take-aways from this were NEVER stop moving. whether your shooting, post shooting or reloading(both lights off).
  6. 3rd on the ammo $$ thing. I have a .45 ..hubby has a 9mm and a .40 cal ..guess who never hears the end about their ammo costing double ? lol Well , he is right. I picked up the .45 because it was an estate and it was a really nice 1911 ..more something you would take out once in a while. It is also good for HD ..but as far as throwing 200 rounds a week down the range practicing? Eh , it costs much more and I don't really want a lot of wear and tear on that particular piece anyway . Enjoy and welcome ! Make sure to post pics when you get your new gun , otherwise the guys here will eat you alive
  7. Alright, glad to see that that's the case, I argued my case from common sense point of view but that does'nt always hold with gun laws. I will relay this back
  8. I was told you need a ccw permit from another state along with the non-resident Florida CCW to actually carry in Florida. This makes no sense to me, Anybody care to explain why a state would issue a ccw and then not honour it ????
  9. I have used for both new & old, Have'nt had a problem. Try the price request and compare total price with any quotes you get. Dont forget to add in gas, shipping & transfer fee into your calculations
  10. I have the SP-01 Tactical in .40 cal. Its all steel, has a bottom rail, night sights and no safety just a decocker(to 1/4 cocked) - Shoots great and the wife is always trying to convince me to just give it to her. I have used the after market mecgar mags that hold 14 as opposed to the regular 12

    Mini 14 questions

Got a take off for 40 bucks . Not bad! I really appreciate the help I get here. Pizza Bob helped me get my revolver that I pick up tomorrow . I won't post about until I have pictures to share tomorrow. I see what happenes when you talk about a new gun but don't have pictures lol If cutting down really works well for me for a long period of time and I find myslef enjoying shooting it often , and I decide the rifle will never leave the family , then I'll think about what to do with the original stock. It is too nice and unique to cut down unless it will only be mine , and then my kids. If I am keeping it , the stock would do me no good in its present state..but if I decide to sell it , cutting that beautiful stock would devalue it. So I'll give it a few months with a shortened stock and see how goes. Thanks for all the help here ! Really really appreciate it. @ junkmanted , I'll ship it to you when I get it . I'll pick it up in person . You're not too far from me , would be a nice ride anyway Thank you again. Such a nice offer.
  13. Thanks ! Would be going during the week days , so not too worried about over crowding. On the other hand , that is also a more likely time for the droopy drawered ones . I 'll check out SS first . I'm sure it is fine as long as it is supervised. I'd rather have good ROs watching a rougher crowd than not enough supervision while surrounded by Griswalds. KWIM?
  14. Thanks Dan I mean , the way I read it ( and I know it only matters in the end how a Judge reads it) you are allowed "reasonable" deviations . Dropping a kid at a sitter for an hour is reasonable IMO. Going to the Pilot House for clam shooters isn't . Of course I do not "have" to go to the range. But neither does anyone. I would hope the fact that I need a sitter to go for an hour would not land me in jail and leave 3 kids without their mother. I'm hoping that some other law breaking on my part would have to happen ( like DUI , reckless driving , having the baby on my while rolling down the road..none of which will happen) , and then that "unreasonable" deviation would be a tack on charge. Yeah , it's a big assumption , but I would be shocked to find myself in a heap of trouble just because I dropped and picked up from a baby sitter on my way to a range. It isn't like when someone who does not know the NJ law( usually from out of state) gets caught with a concealed at a circus or something. The Brick officers are a good bunch in my experience. My course of "deviation" would only be through Brick since I will get on and off the parkway in Brick . Once I am on the Parkway I am not "off course" from the Range. I just don't see a Brick officer doing me in for something like this. The only way it would be questioned would be God forbid I have a wreck on the Parkway and a State Officer asks " what did you do with the baby when you were at the range ? " Then I would answer " he does my reloads for me while I shoot" lol Sigh.......
  15. I hate to even ask this , but which place has a better crowd? I'm no stranger to Lakewood , and it does concern me that it is not a great area. Thanks!
  16. Way to much talky talky these days, kids just yes you to death and go on to do the same things over and over. Looks like she got fair warning before, props to Dad for holding to principles No consequences enacted by the parents is the problem, its all touchy feelly ..be my friend ...I am a cool parent......pleasseee....
  17. Its in 30-30, I will see if I can I can get a few pics up, its the cowboy classic look that drew me to it
  18. Picked it up in a private sale as it caught my eye, after running the serial, turns out its of 1958 vintage. I have been looking at it for near 2 weeks and finally Shot it at the range for first time tonight, Iron sights, 23 yds, nice thump to it and pretty accurate. I liked it, just need to figure out how to clean it now
  19. As An FYI, I have a prelock S&W 686 6 inch in stainless steel. Its as accurate as all hell and I shoot it 95% of the time in DA at the range, Its much more accurate than my PX4, weighs a ton and I love it. I have'nt gotten around to putting it head to head with my new CZ SP-01

    Am I wrong

OK, so I was looking at an chinese SKS with fixed mag which had a birdcage flash-hider on it. Do they come with these ? If not, What are the ramifications of this ?

    Am I wrong

So looking at the substantially identical statue : So any semi-automatic rifle which does not have a detachable magazine like the SKS would not have to play the evil features game and could have all of them on it and still be NJ legal. Opinion ?
  22. I got the SP01 tactical (SKU 91157) in .40 cal. as I already had a PX4 storm in 9mm. Paul is 6 miles from SJSC, just be aware it is not a walk on range.
  23. I was planning to pick up my new CZ SP01 from Paul on Saturday 23rd Jan, Anthony(GunForHire) had hooked me up to shoot at Winslow as well but that day I woke up and we had a dump of snow and a family crisis hit at the same time so saturday travel was a no-go. I ended up picking up my new Gun from Paul on the Monday and headed over to SJSC on a cold rainy day to see If i could still use my shooting invitation. I bumped into Art, the RO, who after finding out who i was - or more accurately, who sent me - showed me around the facilities and then led me down to the 25 yd outdoor range. After a quick safety lecture and having the range to myself, I shot a few mags worth static at multiple targets(3). I was then trying shooting side stepping and shooting at the targets. I then asked Art if he could suggest some drills and I did the following multiple times 1) Standing with my back to the targets, walking away and when Threat was yelled, turning and putting 3 shots in each target 2) Moving across targets, putting 3 shots single handed into each target as I was passing then turning around and doing the same thing weak handed while walking back the other way 3) Standing about 10 yds from target running at target while emptying the mag into the target Did these drills until the light had run out along with swapping stories with Art who could not have been a more helpful and gracious host, thanked him and then headed home. As a North Jersey, standing in a portal at the range type of guy, It was great being at an outdoor range and having Art provide both the insight into improving my technique and providing me with a number of run and gun practical drills to get me into areas of practical shooting, I have not been exposed to so far in my short time in this activity On the Lonnngggg drive home, I had my first experience with Golden Coral and as I was starving, I got my moneys worth. Thinking of standing in the Portal shooting next time at the local range was enough to make a grown man cry
