I agree that a full slide disassembly is not necessary very often, but I like to do it every 1.5k rounds or so. I am not a glock armorer, but it is certainly not rocket science to take the slide apart. As long as you're careful and put everything back the way it came out, you are in good shape. It is a good way to get familiar with the internals of your gun and how it works. This is what I do, it's not the bible, so don't do anything you are not comfortable doing.

Agreed that cleaner is better, but don't go crazy trying to get the bore spotless, it's just not necessary.
