  1. I'll put one Benjamin Franklin on that bet. LOL I was updating Mrs. 45Doll's computer and looking out the office window contemplating going out and getting it over and done. And with that a huge blast of wind came through and whipped snow all over the place. So, I'm waiting until tomorrow. Also, the temp up here is still only 16 so I don't even want to think about the wind chill. At the Rolex I want to see if the Corvettes can get anywhere this year. But I also saw Cadillac is running in the top class, so I'll keep an eye on them too. I'm still an American Band.
  2. Yeah. They're running the Rolex 24 at Daytona now and they're concerned about wind chills below freezing overnight.
  3. It could be worse. We could be in NE. 82 MPH wind gusts. 19" snow. How big are the drifts going to be?? FOX Weather | Home of America's Weather Team

  5. Condolences to the shore guys. Up here in Sussex we only have about 3" so far and not much drifting.
  6. WFMZ update at 4 PM ups shore total to 12"+ and 50 MPH winds. Still 2-4" in Sussex.
  7. Yes that is ironic. But I'll make you feel better. My driveway is 730', a 50' rise with 12-degree slope on average, a hairpin turn, and a 15' ledge rock wall. And yes, I blow it out myself. For a 4" light snow it'll probably be about 90 minutes. 'Why don't I plow it if it's that long?' you ask. Too much to explain in a post, but because of the land characteristics plowing would leave me with about a 6' wide driveway at the end of any winter with a significant snowfall. Or in the case of a real dump, I'd have to bring in a front-end loader. Blowing the snow out leaves me with a clearer driveway than most of the surrounding roads. And it melts quickly off the blacktop. I'm the best road crew in the county. It's our own private Idaho up here. About 30 deer just went racing by on the security cam. Not sure what spooked them. Do foxes take down deer? I know we have several around. Their normal bed down is out on our 'point'. Back to the forecast. They just updated and it looks like the biggest dump on NJ will be on the coast from about Sandy Hook to Stone Harbor. Still looking at about a foot.
  8. We watch WFMZ Allentown for our weather up here. They're usually pretty accurate. As of noon, they're reporting the Euro and GFS models have now converged for snowfall predictions. In Sussex County we're looking at around 4". Along the shore at least a foot. Those totals are up from last night. They do cover northwest NJ and the shore pretty well. Off-air 69.2 loops a forecast every 15 minutes. When nothing's going on the loop is the same for at least three hours at a time. But in this case the loop will start updating more often as the forecast warrants.

You might want to read this about the crypto market in general, and MicroStrategy and El Salvador venturing into crypto. I'm not in crypto and won't be, so some of this is beyond me. But some aspects of it look like another Ponzi scheme. See what you think. My favorite phrase in this article was 'hard fiat currency'. LOL Dollars Ex Machina - Doomberg (substack.com)
  10. I know I mentioned this quite a while ago on the forum. Back in the 70's it was the same story in Madison. I got the runaround for my first pistol permits for three months, until the phone call (no email back then) when I said "Let me speak to the Chief please." Next thing I heard from the desk sergeant after a short hold was 'Your permits will be ready for pickup tomorrow." When I applied for the permits, they also asked me "Why do you want handguns?" Madison was always a Democrat strong hold.
  11. Just a historical note. For this purpose, each NJSP barracks functions like its own little police department. In those barracks the first stop for your application(s) is the Firearms Trooper. Depending on their posture, your approval time may be very quick, or interminably long. I've had both scenarios and heard both scenarios from others tied to other barracks.

  15. Our daughter gave us a G-Sight laser training system for Christmas. (The fruit didn't fall far from the tree.) Typically for her, she did research on the product type before purchase. She cryptically asked me in November what our favorite calibers were, and the answer (of course) was .45ACP and 9mm, in that order. In November I didn't understand the question. Fast forward to Christmas. She ordered an ELMS PLUS PROPACK SSE Special Shooters Edition which contained two laser cartridges. However, when she placed the order, she didn't notice the default was two 9mm cartridges when what she wanted was one .45 and one 9mm. So, when we opened it there were two 9mm's. That would be handy if we both wanted to train on 9mm only, or at the same time. But Mrs. 45Doll likes .45ACP as much as I do. I contacted their customer service. And I'm happy to report they exchanged one of the 9mm cartridges for a .45ACP and all on their dime. I had the exchange less than 5 business days after the request. So if anyone's considering a laser training setup I can recommend G-Sight from the CS point of view. Now we're still getting used to it, but the product performs as advertised. We're just using the basic 10 shot app at the moment but will upgrade for $5 to the 'shot timer' version soon. One thing we noticed; it really does highlight it if you jerk the trigger. With no recoil there's no covering up your performance. And of course you're saving ammo $$. One downside is that if you're training with a SAO or striker fired pistol you have to reset the striker or hammer for the next shot. But that would be true for any laser training product. So far we've worked around that without irritation; trigger discipline is our main focus. Draw and fire is coming up shortly. ELMS PLUS PROPACK SSE Special Shooters Edition – G-Sight
  16. Got a stock alert today from TSUSA. Down to .35/round from .38. But that is an 8% drop in price, if still outrageous compared to 2019. CCI Blazer Brass 9mm Luger Ammo 124 Grain Full Metal Jacket (targetsportsusa.com)
  17. Not really. I have two other original models on our 2nd large geo HP that are still running fine. And back in the 80's I installed a couple Grundfos on a new boiler I put in our Randolph house. That's still going. They're a lot like Gould inground well pumps. Running for 30 years is not uncommon at all. But of course, nothing lasts forever. The other thing I like about the Grundfos is that they use the water for internal lubrication. They don't depend on oil, grease etc.
  18. Thanks @Sniper and @Scorpio64. Bearings seemed OK, and the startup cap looked mechanically sound. It's about a 2" sealed type, not a wet electrolytic. My curiosity is simply aimed at determining if I should have tried to replace the startup cap first (which would have been easy) before installing a new pump. Any other reason for the pump to fail would be (in my book after 28 years) cause to replace it. $335 for the new version that's three speeds, not fixed like the old one. Curiously, so far, I seem to be getting about two degrees more heat out of the heat pump with the new Grundfos. I won't be sure about that for a while, but I'm going to monitor it. Since the new pump has three speeds I'll have to experiment to see if there's any significant difference in efficiency.
  19. If anyone on the forum has experience. I just replaced a 28-year-old Grundfos UP26-99F 230V A/C water cooled pump that runs the ground loop in one of our geothermal systems and it's running fine now. I'll skip the whole troubleshooting experience and just ask my question. The broken pump symptom was that the motor case got really hot, and the impeller wasn't turning. I pulled the external motor 'casing' off to reveal the internal 'cartridge' and its shaft that drives the impeller, and it wasn't mechanically jammed. That pump has a startup capacitor. If the startup capacitor was bad, would that cause the motor to overheat and not turn? I don't have that much A/C motor experience. I previously replaced the startup capacitor for one of the compressors in our (previously replaced) geothermal heat pumps, but the only symptom there was the compressor simply wouldn't start. So, my thought was if the startup capacitor failed, this motor simply wouldn't turn. The fact that it got very hot very quickly made me conclude something in the motor internals had failed. I shall attend any voice of experience that chimes in.
  20. If it was a stolen car, and the owner tried to stop them by shooting at them, he's going to be charged. Especially in Philadelphia. "Police are not yet clear on if this was a carjacking – or an attempted car theft and shooting – but these incidents have been on the minds of the public and police." Lethal force to defend stolen property is not justified in PA. Or many other states for that matter. Definitely not in NJ.
